As I’ve said before, I love this lip pencil, but this color is truly great. It’s very dark and very intense. As someone mentioned, it’s not something I would use as an every day lip color, but when I’m feeling dark and edgy, it’s the first one I pull out.

Love this pencil. Def not a color for everyday but when I’ve worn it I always get comments on the color. It’s really beautiful and unique. I’ve also layered it with NARS scarlet empress lipstick and like it that way. My daughter says I look like a “pretty villain” lol, I think it reminds her. Elyse Mantacini had the worst brush here. So I gave this a go for losing both my hands or feeling like it was sitting on her dress.

Update: Thank you Sailor for this beautiful little detail! You got something very special! I love how you aren’t doing too much and turning it into one big frown thing or whatnot!
Thanks to Sailor. +1

Best new purchase of 2017. As a full on vampy lip it looks amazing. It does get patchy so you have to reapply. I wish I could wear this vampy lip every day. However, I love the color so much that I wear it as a softer lip stain every day. It’s a beautiful soft purply mauve color when used as a stain smudged with fingers. I also LOVE this as a cheek stain. Just dot onto cheeks and smudge. It’s a gives me a beautiful flush. I will be repurchasing for sure.

I was hoping to get sort of a vampy-purple color, but this color looks almost black. Unfortunately, this color just does not work for me. The product is easy to apply, but I had a hard time getting an even color with it. Since I have other NARS lip pencils I was surprised to find that this one would leave flakes on my teeth since I have never had that happen with any of my other NARS lip pencils. Given the color issues for me and the price tag of $26, there is no way I can consider repurchasing.

Gah, I love this color. It is so vampy. I’m about NC30-35, I get to about NC25 in the winter. My complaint with this is the formula; someone below mentioned it’s patchy, and it is. Make sure you line underneath and prime because otherwise you end up with a ring around the outer edges of your lips. Not cute.
However, I’d say if you’re willing to deal with priming and eventually reapplying, get it. I love this color and I would buy it again bc I like the color so much. NARS just needs to improve the formula. This pairs perfectly with MAC nightmoth lip liner.

This is patchy to say the least.
I’ve found that berries without red tints tend to not stain, which is why there is potential for the lip color to slide off the lips. Due to the texture, I find this slipping off the inner portion of my lips, and it results in being extremely patchy/uneven.
When the tone is this deep, it should not be so high maintenance to the point where I’m looking into my reflection every five minutes in worry that it is sliding off my face.
The only resolution is perhaps putting a lip liner underneath, however when I purchase a chubby lip pencil, I purchase it for ease, and its low maintenance. For the other shades in the Nars line for their velvet, and satin lip pencils, we worked well together, but with Train Bleu it is not what I would be reaching for.

I spent months looking at swatches of Train Bleu online, showing various people pictures and asking them if they thought I could pull it off. Some people thought it would clash with my NC35 – 40 yellow coloring, others thought it was too dramatic/vampy and some thought it was the perfect color for me. I finally ordered it online and I am happy to report that it’s been a steady favorite for over a year now!
Train Bleu was my first NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil, and its texture is, as promised, very matte with no shimmer. Because Train Bleu is such a dramatic color — a deep, blackened purple — it requires a precise application, and the pencil form makes that very easy. I just line, fill in my lips, blot and reapply and the color lasts through meals and drinks. I was afraid that it would fade unevenly, but nope — the fading is minimal and the color becomes less intense but without leaving the dreaded ring outlining your lips. The texture is drying, but I’m not surprised, again, because it’s so matte. After wearing it, I just make sure to wear some lip balm to bed and my lips are fine, so while it’s matte, my lips don’t need as much recovery time as they do after I wear MAC Ruby Woo (which is the most matte, most drying lipstick I own).
This is the product that started my love affair with the formulation, and the color is surprisingly wearable. I thought I would only wear it during the winter and with particular outfits, but I’ve found myself wearing it year-round and with something as casual as a flannel shirt and jeans. I keep the rest of my makeup very minimal and simple (as I tend to do when I’m wearing a statement lip) when wearing Train Bleu, as I don’t want anything to compete with it.
I give it four lippies for packaging, only because some of the product is wasted when I sharpen it, and four lippies for price as it is on the pricier end for me. Despite these two things, however, the color, formulation and ease of application means I give it five lippies overall.

Beautiful shade, just gorgeous to me! I’m very fair about an NW15 very cool undertones, blonde hair, green eyes for reference. I like to use a little Fresh exfoliating scrub before I apply this. That leaves my lips soft and not too oily so the lip pencil doesn’t bleed out. I always put a little powder around my lips sometimes concealer if it’s going to be a long night. I only need about 2 good swipes. The formula for a matte is fantastic imo. It’s very smooth and it doesn’t dry my lips out at all. The shade is so opaque and it lasts! I wore this all day today and I only had to touch up once after the original application.
So this goes for about 4 hours till I need to retouch. I love the shade I mean it’s just so cool with minimal makeup! I like just doing a light blush just something like NARS Luster or Milani blush in Red Vino looks great. Oh also Milianis Black Cherry goes over this perfectly they are so similar, so if you need moisture you can use something similar on top for moisture. Or Clinique’s Black Honey works too. It is pricey but for me it lasts, doesn’t bleed or feather and looks amazing on a ton of skin tones. For a matte it is pretty moisturizing and reapplication for me is minimal. I really don’t see what’s not to like about this badboy! Love:) Recommend!

This is an amazing lip product. The colour payoff alone, is well worth the 30 or so odd dollars you pay for the small 2.4 grams of product. This is a colour that generally looks good on a wide variety of skintones (it really depends on the look you’re going for). Of course, I would suggest trying it out before purchasing because the colour on your lips isn’t anything much like the colour of the crayon, (it comes on much darker on the lips). The product goes on smooth and creamy and dries to a very near true matte finish (it doesn’t come of entirely paper dry, but that’s probably because of the humectants that keep your lip from drying out as a result of this product), but it definitely doesn’t come off creamy enough to call it anything other than a matte finish. And unlike other matte colours (I’m comparing this to Mac’s and Clinique’s lines of matte lipsticks), this is pleasantly moisturizing. And another bonus to this was, it didn’t seep into any little cracks and wrinkles like other matte lipsticks (namely Ruby Woo). However, I would suggest scrubbing/exfoliating the lips before application and of course to moisturize it, only because the flaking is ultimately unavoidable. Your lips will flake with any matte lip product.
Having said that, I only needed a light application of lip balm(I used Smith’s strawberry lip balm) and NYX’s jumbo lip primer and 2 coats of this stuff and I was good to go. I usually have to reapply or rather heavily apply lip moisturizer before using a matte lip product, but with I had no such concerns. I’ve worn this by itself with just the lip balm and my lips still didn’t try out.My lips stayed well moisturized through the entire wear of 3 hours (that’s only because I didn’t reapply after drinking from a glass). I know it’s not the lip balm or the primer because I’ve used them both with other matte lip products. It must be the NARS!

This is the perfect dark, vampy lipstick. It’s so beautiful and rich. I want to love this color, but can’t! The formula is the real killer here; it is so drying and clings to any dryness on the lip. I experience a good deal of dragging and pulling with applying Train Bleu, even when I have a nice creamy liner on. I always exfoliate before putting lipsticks and glosses on, but no luck. I’ve tried sharpening before application, but haven’t found a way to make this product work for me. I love Nars’ other Velvet Matte Lip Pencils, but this one is not for me.
