I had been looking for matte lipsticks, as, being older, the super glossy look just is too “bubble gum” looking for me. i wanted a more sophisticated but subtle look. and I wanted staying power. The NARS semi-matte line delivers. Their colors last fairly well, until you eat or drink. They don’t dry my lips; however, I use the GO SMILE lip balm at night to moisturize. And the colors are lovely for my brown eyed, brown haired, pale neutral to warm complexion. I have these in Viridiana, Fire Down Below, & TS Express. I do have to apply them in a certain way, however, to avoid that thick “Loretta Young” look. What I do is apply to upper & lower lips, & let the lipstick sit for a minute or two to penetrate. Then I use a Swisspers Q tip (it is pointy on one end & flat, ‘paddle’ shaped on the other) to wipe off the excess. I wipe alot off, until I get a softer, subtler look. I know it is wasting some product, but i just don’t like thickly smeared flashy lips. Especially in these deep colors. I love the end look this gives me.

I LOVE this lipstick. Since turning 30 I decided I needed to be able to “do” red lipstick and have been looking for the HG. I’m NC25, brown hair, blue eyes.
This colour doesn’t fade to a pink, isn’t too orangey, looks like a Proper Red and stays that way. But it can still be quite subtle & classy (ie not screaming at you) because it’s a tad darker. I feel very vampy and grown up wearing this red AND it makes my eyes looked whiter and bluer. Doesn’t wash me out at all, really flatters my colouring. Only slight thing is it makes me teeth look a bit grey, but I can live with that – this is a colour to smoulder in rather than giggle anyway. (and maybe I need to hit the bleach again…!)
Texture is quite dry but I use mac prep and prime before and that takes the edge off. I wouldn’t want to apply it to naked lips. i apply using a lipbrush for the outline and from the stick for most of my lower lip. It goes on smooth. Colour density can be built up froma stain to full on vamp. I wear it with black eyeliner and just a touch of neutral blush.
The makeup artist in the store showed me how to use a darker liner at the corners over the lipstick, then a little more lipstick to blend, to make my lips look fuller. It works. He used Salsa liner.
Staying power is good, all round this is a great lipstick. Almost HG but there might be something even better out there so I won’t stop looking… 😉
…oh, it loses one lippie for the price. That’s all.

Trans Siberian is the red I have chosen for my evening wedding. I’ve been on a quest for the perfect red and nearly gave up on red altogether until I found this. I am fair with blonde hair/blue eyes. Most other reds have been too harsh. Somehow, even though this is a deep red, it’s more flattering and more subtle than the countless other reds I’ve tried. Oh, and it’s not just the color I’m crazy about, it’s long lasting and non-drying as well. I’m so happy to have found “THE ONE”!
