Kat Von D’s packaging is amazing, and I think that’s one of the first things that draws people to the line. This product is gorgeous on the outside, but the lipstick itself is a little disappointing. In general, I find the Studded Kiss lipsticks to be very dry, but not so dry that they’re uncomfortable to wear. This one is no exception, it is quite dry but it has a decent amount of pigment. In the tube it looks semi-metallic, and I think that’s the main fault with this product: the metallic finish doesn’t really transfer to the lips, but instead it just looks like an oddly plastic matte lipstick. The base color is nice, and if I apply this lightly over a lipliner it looks okay, but it isn’t always worth the extra effort that it requires to make it look good. There are some Studded Kiss lipsticks that I like, but this one is not as impressive.

This one is really nice! Much more wearable than the website would suggest. It’s a deep sheer berry with subtle pink shimmer. I don’t find it patchy, but it doesn’t ever get to full opacity no matter how much I put on. Like with the other shimmers/glitters I’ve tried from this line I find it more drying than the creams, but it’s not bad. I probably wouldn’t buy a full size but I like my mini.

LOVE this metallic berry shade. I’m a fair skinned redhead and it’s difficult for me to pull off berry shades as they tend to run either too much towards pink/fuscia, flat out purple, or brown. I’d call this a true cool toned berry shade.
Unfortunately the formula sucks. Like another reviewer said, it dragged, went on somewhat patchy and sucked the moisture out of my lips. From other reviews I’ve read from googling, it seems that it might be the metallic effect that makes it so drying. Not sure, but very sadly this is going back. However, I found that Revlon Ultra HD lipstick in Iris seems to be a close match.

Absolutely a beautiful complex color. The color is a 5-but tanks to a 2 upon application. It drags on application, applies patchy, wears unevenly. My lips aren’t dry and I don’t want to apply another product just so I can use this lipstick. I won’t be trying any other Kat Von D lipstick

Wolvesmouth is my first Kat Von D lipstick. I had a hard time deciding which one (or ones) I wanted because there are quite a few interesting ones in the collection. I chose this because it’s a metallic berry. Swatched on the hand it looked velvety, subtly metallic and matte all at once, so I thought with all that going on it was a good place to start. Staying power is decent, and I haven’t noticed any major patchiness yet or anything — though after sipping a drink from a straw it was a bit uneven when I finished my beverage, but it held up pretty good and a quick light touchup made it look as good as new.
At first I was a bit worried because there’s a bit of a vanilla-ish scent and I don’t care for scented lipsticks so much, but it fades pretty fast. The packing is interesting with its black, studded casing, but the lid does seem like it could pop off easily. I’d prefer a bit tighter click and lock when I close it, so I know its contents are secure, especially for the $21 price tag.

I need to stay the hell away from the KVD display at Sephora. Seriously, I can’t go into that store without making a beeline to that display, and it’s all because of these lipsticks.
My latest acquisition is the shade Wolvesmouth, which is a deep metallic berry with cooler undertones and a unique, cool-toned flash.
I had swatched this the day I purchased Thin Lizzy (one of my absolute favorite lipsticks ever) and had almost considered buying this, but decided against it. Not sure what made me decide to go back and give it a go, but I figured it was a unique enough shade that I wanted to add it to my collection.
It’s not as glittery as Thin Lizzy or Poe. It’s more of a straight-up fine shimmer with a good cream base. It applies fairly evenly, but I do have to be very conscientious about any dry patches, as this will put them front and center and trust me – it’s not pretty. But if you give due diligence to lip prep, you’ll be fine.
So far, it’s no more or less drying than the other non-matte colors in this range, and the wear time so far has been quite good.
The packaging is the same on all lipsticks in this range – studded-patterned glossy black with the KVD logo on top. Quite attractive, and the unique texture makes it easy to find in my bag. The quality of the packaging is a bit dodgy, as the cap seems like it may pop off. I’ve heard of this happening from friends of mine who own lipsticks from this range, but it’s not happened yet to me. We’ll see.
These are $21, so it’s pretty middle-of-the-road in terms of higher-end lipsticks.
Over all, I really love this shade. It’s tricky to work with at first, but with proper lip care ahead of time, it’s a fun shade!
