I love super bright poppy colors during the spring and summer, but I’m kinda burned out on them at the moment. I can’t explain why. I am just temporarily taking a break from them.
So in light of this I started finding myself dreaming of 90s browns for some reason. Enter this Lippie from Sonia Kashuk one night while aimlessly walking through Target. I’ve never bought a cosmetic product from this line. I always look at it and think it has super cute bags and brush sets. I always mean to try things out, but the price is comparable to some of my tried and true favorites, that I always pass on this brand. Plus my collection is so extensive that it’s hard to find anything “new”. It has a lot if basic stuff and I don’t need basics. I have bought a comb brush from them over 6 years ago that I just recently retired. That was a good purchase. I should probably check out an eyeshadow brush sometime.
All that being said for some reason the great limited edition packaging pulled me in. I’m a sucker for some summer/heat inspired cosmetic line. Something about the golds mesmerizes me! I zoned right in on the lipsticks. The pink one bored me, but this brownie, nude terra cotta caught my eye. I’m a sucker for terra cotta, but don’t anything quite like this. Nothing this sheer or light. I have plenty of full bodied, fall versions, but nothing that transcended seasons. I think this will do that nicely.
As far as the product goes I’m pleased with it. The color is nice, sheer, light and wearable. It looks great with neutrals or more bold colors. Very versatile. It doesnt last long (1-2 hrs), but us easily reapplied and it builds on itself nicely. No odd orange ring around the lips either, which I sometimes get with brown/nude lipsticks. There is no noticeable smell or taste, which to me is the best way a lipstick can be. It does have a more lip gloss feel and hair does stick to it as mentioned in an earlier review.
Outdo curiosity I checked to see if the little window on the stock actually contained lipstick and it did! So cool and so weird!
My only complaint is the packaging. The lid and tube don’t seem to want to securely snap together. It has come undone a few times in transit and that sort of worries me. Guess I will just have to be careful.
Overall solid and unique colored lipstick. I think I’m gonna be more apt to try SK products in the future. 🙂

I bought this yesterday and have been alternating applications of it with a new Clinique Pop Lip Colour, and I’m finding them very similar, though the Sonia Kashuk Shine Luxe Sheer Lip Colour is actually more creamy and hydrating on the lips, and also more sheer in color. I also find their packaging to be somewhat similar, as they’re both in square metal tubes.
For the record, I’m not really a fan of this packaging. While it looks pretty (and especially for this limited edition collection, with the gold stripes) the packaging feels flimsy in hand. When I twist the tube, it sort of twists fast, then slow, and the product easily gets smeared on the tube. Also, did you know that the little squares at the end of these lippies, the ones that show what color’s in the tube, are ACTUALLY lipstick in a clear little box? I found out because mine popped off in my purse this morning, and I stuck my finger right in the lipstick when trying to fish out the end cap to snap it back on the package. What a mess.
Packaging aside, I am really loving this lipstick. The color is gorgeous, the formula comfortable, and the price decent. And who wouldn’t love the name?

I’ve been waiting to get my hands on one of these. I found mine at Target for $11.99. I know that Sonia Kashuk normally is a little pricier than other drugstore brands and the packaging of this is lovely, but it still pained me to spend $12 for one drugstore lip product. Nirvana is a kind of brown nude color to me with some orange tones to it. It is a very sheer color as the name implies and has shiny, glossy finish. It is pretty lightweight on the lips and comfortable to wear with a slightly tacky texture. Your hair will still to it, just in case that is a deal breaker for anyone. I enjoy the color and the comfort of wear of this and will be picking up the other shade (Eden) soon.
