I wanted a classic red lipstick, so where else would I go but Chanel? I’m a cool toned blonde and picked #31 Cambon, which is a slightly pinkier red. To me, nothing exceeds the quality of Chanel and Coco Rouge did not disappoint. When you’re doing red it’s got to be perfect. I hate matte lipstick but red is hard to do in any other texture if you don’t want to be constantly checking it and touching up. Coco Rouge is a moisturizing lipstick but it’s not too slick, I found the texture to be absolutely perfect. It is satin without being too slippery. It feels very light and comfortable on my lips, and has no taste whatsoever. There is a slight rosey scent that’s subtle and not overpowering. I wear it with a lip liner and sometimes without, either way works equally well. This lipstick is highly pigmented, one swipe and you’re set. Whatever moisturizing properties that are in this lipstick make your lips look plump and healthy, and it wears beautifully. It does not last as long as a matte if you don’t use lip liner so it does require some touch ups but hey – red is high maintenance. For my coloring I could not have chosen a better color, it is simply beautiful. I wear the red, it doesn’t wear me. It is a cool, bright, classic red reminiscent of old Hollywood glamour. While it leans cooler, there is just a subtle warmth to it that I haven’t seen in any other red. I let a friend try it on who has very warm brown skin with yellow under tones – the exact opposite of me. On her, it looked equally gorgeous and it picked up the warmth in her skin. I also had another friend with dark black skin try it on and it adapted to her tone as well, so anyone can wear this color. I did read some reviews complaining of how it dried their lips which is unfortunate because I do not experience this at all, and I have very dry skin. I have worn this numerous times at work during 10 hour shifts and it goes the distance. Oh, the magic of Chanel. It is expensive but you get what you pay for and if you are looking for your special, HG red look no further. Coco Rouge has several reds that will compliment absolutely everyone. I adore this lipstick and will never be without it, I can’t wait to try some other colors in the range – I don’t know why I waited this long.

I have and love Mademoiselle from the Rouge Coco line but wanted to branch out to other shades. Cambon is a pink-based red and leans cool-toned. I didn’t think this color was that special and I have other reds I like better. Also, the formula of Cambon seemed greasier and more transfer-prone than Mademoiselle, which is problematic with a red lipcolor.

I tried Cambon in the store and didn’t like it. I own Chanel Rouge Coco Mademoiselle which is very hydrant and effortless to apply evenly. Cambon is not that easy to apply evenly on the lips. I don’t know why. Shouldn’t all Rouge Coco the same because they are all made with the same formula? Could it be it is a test lipstick so it’s already dried up and the texture is ruined? I really don’t know.
With Mademoiselle, I don’t have to do anything. Just apply on the lips and go. With Cambon, you have to make sure you moisturize your lips first, make sure they are not dry, then you can apply.
Color fades quickly after I lick or bite my lips without eating or drinking.
The color is not bad. Some reviews say it’s red pink or raspberry pink. I see red and pink, but I don’t see raspberry. However, It pulls a little orange on me, just a little. I feel that the hint of orange makes it too bright for winter, it looks more like a summer color to me. It’s not cheesy or anything, it’s just hard to match Cambon with some of the color schemes of winter clothes. I wish the color were a little deeper, not so bright.
Cambon is a dud.

This is a nice colour for people with fair-to-light skin with cool undertones. To me, it looks like a reddish pink. For the price, I expected a shade which was more unique, but I feel there are other similar shades out there one could get for cheaper. However, it does have a wonderful texture, and I like the rosewater smell. I have dry lips. When I tried it on the day I bought it, I accidentally fell asleep wearing it. When I cleaned it off the next morning, my lips were actually improved from wearing it.
Strangely, over time, the colour started to grow on me more and more, and it seemed less and less ordinary than it first appeared. Perhaps it is as some reviewers mentioned, that there is a hint of orange in there, but just slightest amount to make an otherwise common shade into something more unique.
To allow the lipcolour to take centre stage, pair it with minimal makeup and a neutral wardrobe. On the other hand, try pairing with complementary colours for trendiness.

I love this color, but it’s a big pain in the arse, so I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it, and as soon as I run out, I’m going to look for a similar color in a different lipstick formulation.
Cambon is a rosey-red that leans pink. You’d think it would be very easy to find, but when I press this on to my lips…well, I don’t own any color quite like it. It’s sort of satiny and looks best without lipliner, in my opinion, so it’s such a soft color. The packaging is also very lovely and suited to my tastes: simple and black.
My love stops there. This lipstick is one of the most drying things I’ve ever put on my lips, and I have to use Elizabeth Arden Lip Fix cream underneath, plus lip balm throughout the night, to survive wearing it. I can actually FEEL it drying up my lips, which is extremely unpleasant. Also, it has zero staying power; I don’t expect my lipsticks to last all night, but if it’s a drying formula and it barely stays on for 2 hours? That’s just irritating.
I will never purchase another Rouge Coco, and as I said before, I will search for a dupe for this lipstick. It’s a beautiful color, but it’s not worth the hassle.

After becoming obsessed with Mad Men on tv, I began looking for a pinkish red lipstick like Joan’s. I later found out that the exact shade used for the show is Mistress by Laura Mercier, but that shade isn’t available here in Japan. I’d given up hope of finding a similar color when I found Cambon in a duty free shop. It. Is. Perfect.
For anyone with fair skin who looks good in cool reds,this is the shade for you! It brightens up your complexion and gives you the perfect pop of colour. It has this awesome retro look to it for a 50s-60s feel.
I love the packaging and the pigmentation of the lipstick. My single complaint is that it’s not creamy and tends to make my lips a bit dry. I usually throw a little lip gloss on top to keep my lips moist.
I will keep buying this lipstick as long as they make the shade.
