Clinique gave these away as a gift with purchase, but now has them online for $35. I wanted to try a variety of Clinique’s lipsticks, but didn’t want to purchase full sizes or spend $35 on samples. So I found mine on EBay for $10.
The packaging is classy and well worth $10 as a mirror compact alone. It’s mirror shine chrome inside and out. Good weight and comes with a chrome retractable lip brush and spatula. Has four empty pans to mix shades for custom colors. It contains four small pans of matte lipsticks (Clinique calls them Long Last Soft Matte) and four sheer lipsticks (Clinique Butter Shine.)
Top Row: Long Last Soft Matte shades
1. Pink Chocolate: the perfect deep neutral for a red head. There isn’t any pink that I can see, but a wonderful cinnamon-brown. My favorite shade in the palette.
2. Vintage Wine: The perfect red for red heads! More of a brick red, with a warm neutral base. This particular shade was hard to get coverage with, but when I did it was a show stopper. It also had less staying power than the rest of them. I have yet to actually find this shade in a bullet!
3. Matte Magenta: Not for the faint of heart. This is electric pink with a cool base. Mixes very well with violet purples in an ombre look. Looks a lot like MAC’s Candy Yum Yum, without the gel finish. Stained my lips, but stayed well. Had good coverage.
4. Matte Plum: I didn’t care for this shade. It brought back bad memories of Urban Decay’s Vice shade “Pandemonium.” Dark purple wash with a very unflattering base reminiscent of 80’s mood lipstick pink. Won’t be purchasing that.
Second Row: Butter Shine shades (Butter Shine Lipstick is actually discontinued on their website, yet they sell sample sizes in this palette???)
1. Baby Baby: Nude/Clear lip balm with silver glitter. Almost nothing. Boring and made me look ill. Lasted 10 minuets. Very moisturizing. I cannot believe anyone would pay $18 for a full size of this.
2. Pink Goddess: A gorgeous warm berry gloss with sheer color and gold pearl. Very moisturizing. Stays about an hour. Black Honey’s hotter sister. I will be buying this in full size. The most used pan in the palette.
3. Pink-A-Boo: Sheer Mauve with gold glitter. Very moisturizing, the color of my lips. Nothing special. Boring.
4. Raspberry Rush: Lip balm version of Black Honey. Maybe a tad bit more purple tones. Very moisturizing with no peal or glitter I can see. Already have Black Honey. Don’t need this.
All in all, this isn’t worth $35. The purpose of the palette seems to be to try new shades, yet most are exclusive to this palette! I don’t like that the shades I do want are NOT AVAILABLE ANY LONGER. WTF Clinique? Did you make this just to use up old product??
Not classy.
