I’m not sure if I am correctly reviewing this product, my tube of lipstick says “Modern Matte” and looks nothing like the photo.
I purchased shade 03 Matte Frappuccino for $3. I’m a moisturizing lipstick user, so matte is usually not my forte. But, honestly I love the chic look of matte, so I try them anyway. This one for as affordable as it is, is surprisingly good.
The color applies evenly and true to the color you see in the tube. The lid clicks into place very well. The packaging isn’t embarrassing but is modern and discreet. It feels very creamy, but looks matte. It also stays very well (coffee drinker, smoker) stays where you put it, and fades evenly. The fragrance is that subtle fruit/lipstick smell you remember from childhood makeup, but not in a bad way. No chemical smell or flavor. It’s actually nostalgic for me.
Sadly, the color selection from Jordana in this particular formula is very limited, like four shades, most I have in other brands already. I wish there were more honestly. The Frapp color is beautiful for fall but a staple nude too in my opinion. Definitely worth the price and checking out if you love matte finish but don’t like the dehydration that usually goes with it.

After much searching for the perfect red lipstick-i finally found “True Red” and “Radiant Red” by Jordan Matte lipsticks. These two colors cost me a whopping $1.99 each in Maui. I discovered it on my honeymoon while realizing I forgot to bring a bright lip color, and went to the local drug store and thought that I should just give it a shot. Wow! The color “True Red” is exactly that-a true red that doesn’t lean too cool or warm. Beautiful! So cheap and easy to experiment with different shades. Not every shade was a winner for me-I don’t look good in Coral Flame for example-but the reds are beautiful, rich, and saturated. Highly recommended.

Jordana and I go way back! I met her at a 99cent store in junior high and we have been bffs ever since!
I love love love this Matte ???? I discovered it when I was in the 7th grade and I used to rock the gold with the Jordana burgundy lip liner. I am so happy Jordana is still around and have changed their packaging a little and it is still BOMB & inexpensive. Walgreens has a very large selection so head on down!
I met Lavissa L, who is 2 weeks away from breaking out from college and is working on our wall. I love lavissa and was inspired by her incredible new makeup machine. She is a mad scientist and thrilled to see one of her colors come out as a pigment like this. I am so excited for spring and will be using my packaging on my foundation and lip shadow to capture this every single day that she puts on…
I’m 14 and 21 and I was hesitant at first because I never expected it to be a classic white day pigmented lip. It was a big deal, but I’m even happier now because I finally got my iris picture and it looks even better!

The shade I got (Rum Punch) is beautiful, but I don’t like how heavy it feels on my lips. It’s too drying for me no matter how much I hydrate my lips before I put this on. My lips already have a tendency to feel dry and tight easily so this is just not for me. If I need a matte lipstick, I’d rather use NARS’ Velvet Matte Lip Pencil.

Wanting a new matte lipstick the lady at Sephora suggested I try this line. She assured me they were non transferable and long wearing for several hours. We finally decided on Spice, a beautiful shade for everyday wear for me. I agree with other reviews that exfoliating the lips is necessary. Applying the lipstick was smooth but the formula feels dry on. And it does transfer very easily on to my coffee cup Although I like the colour I most likely will not purchase another one. I might add that I am a fan of Anastasia tinted brow gels…they are great!

I had the good fortune of getting one of these one sale, so I picked up Stevie, described as an antique (or antiqued, maybe) auburn. That seems to sort of fit, though it’s kind of also a plummy shade that leans a bit mauve, too. It reminds me of some of those Revlon ColorStay lipsticks from the 1990s. They had one that had Raisin in the name and this reminds me of that a lot. The feel, too, in a lot of ways.
The formula is kind of a typical matte in that it leans toward dry, but it doesn’t feel that way on my lips. It has really good pigmentation, too, and it’s more vampy if I apply a fuller coat, or if I dab and blot, it’s a pretty auburn stain. Staying power is decent. Careful sips from a mug of coffee and it’ll hold up pretty good. Eat a sandwich, and it’s going to fade. Though so far I haven’t experienced any terrible fading that leaves a weird ring around my lips, etc.
The formula, while not moisturizing, isn’t drying either. I don’t really notice any scent either. It’s easy to apply, too, in that it kind of has a velvety feel.
Overall I like the formula and would definitely consider more from this line.

The color I bought — Rogue — is beautiful. This was recommended by the Sephora consultant as a long-lasting mid-price lipstick but, alas, the staying power is poor and it transfers everywhere.

I have the shade latte and its basically a cool tone version of MAC Whirl. Its a really nice formula that doesn’t feel too dry and doesn’t settle too much into the fine lines of your lips. The formula is comfortable and looks really good as well. They have quite an amazing shade range from nudes all the way to brights to even the non conventional colours. If you like matte lipstick then this is worth a try.
shyTermite5
I found my holy grail lip colour from this line! I wear it almost everyday! I love how smoothly the lipstick applies and how natural the colour is!
giddyHeron7
I have this lipstick in two shades – Spice (a medium pinky/red brown) and Hollywood (a fresh, flattering, warm coral) and I adore them both. I carry both in my handbag at all times, because both shades are great for everyday looks, and I like variety as the day goes on.
First off, the formula is quite matte, but it’s very velvety, and while it doesn’t hydrate my lips, I don’t find that it dries them out either. There is a slight tug upon application as many have mentioned, but it applies evenly and opaquely. Even though there is that stiffness, I don’t have any issues with getting a neat lip line. (I do not use a liner with these lipsticks.) The color does not bleed or feather, and both shades wear fairly evenly (though Hollywood does tend to gather in my lip lines after a couple hours of wear). There is some transfer, but these lipsticks do last a good amount of time for a non-liquid formula.
The packaging is GORGEOUS and of a very high quality. The bullet retracts all the way down, and the cap fits snugly and securely. It all just feels so luxurious!
At $18, it seems like a high price point, but you get around 3.4 grams of product, which is more than say a MAC lipstick. I have paid far more for lipsticks in the past, and I find that while this is a premium brand, the price point skates right between drugstore and high-end.
I’m interested in trying other bold shades from this range. There are some deep reds that are calling my name, as well as a few dusty, “antique”-looking shades that I’d love to try out.
Also, these are vegan and cruelty-free! So ditch your MAC mattes and go for these instead!
Edit 11/29/2018: I picked this up in “Brandy”, which is a STUNNING blackened burgundy. It is truly the MVP of the three shades I have. Absolutely gorgeous shade, and the performance is A+.

These lipsticks are amazing for the price. I have several, and they’re all quite lovely. They have a weird fake fruit smell, but it isn’t too strong or overwhelming. The wear is nice and they feel comfortable on the lips; I don’t find them to be drying at all, and the pigmentation is great. These lipsticks are usually a dollar or two, so I highly recommend picking up a few in fun or unusual-for-you colors.

Update: I now own more shades from this line and Tangerine Tango is the only one that burns my lips so far. I will add it’s detailed review to an individual listing.
Overall? These are nice lipsticks, not quite as good as WnW MegaLast (but those give me cystic lip acne). They are thick, creamy, and mostly opaque (some require a bit of building).
These come in lots of colors from muted to incredibly bright. The matte formula isn’t quite as good as it’s big sister company Milani, but it’s worth the $1.66 USD at BeautyJoint for me.
Traditional bullet shape, typical cheap/crappy packaging – exposed, wobbly bullet, loose lid. These do have a soft vanilla scent – same as the Milani mattes. I find it inoffensive.
I plan on buying more! Lots of fun!

I have tried several of the regular Jordana lipsticks, but am new to the matte ones. I have only just recently gotten into matte shades. I picked up Nude recently which is almost exact to Natural from the regular line. I like the color and for the price the lipstick is nice. The packaging is pretty basic but it doesn’t bother me, it kind of reminds me Tof the old Wet N Wild lipstick packaging from the late 80’s/early 90’s. The only potential issue is durability if the product were to be dropped, would it withstand or would it break, etc.
I don’t find this lipstick to be drying, but I always put a balm underneath any lip product I put on, just a habit of mine I guess so that likely helps. I would call it a nude with some peach in it, I find it to be similar to Wet N Wild Bare it All but a touch lighter and maybe a little less peach than that one.
Would I purchase again? Yes, I think I would though I am not sure I need both this color and Natural from the regular lipstick line as they are nearly identical. But for around $2 each my bank account isn’t going to suffer.
Overall, I give these 4 stars, and I would recommend them. The trick is finding the shades that work for you.

The lipsticks have some nice shades and color lasts overnight. Comfortable feel. Price is great too.

Online photos make some of these lipsticks look much more exciting than they are in real life. I skipped getting several whose pics had intrigued me, but not IRL.
These were only $2.50. They provide complete coverage w/one smooth swipe, stay put w/out even blotting, do not transfer *at all* after just a short time, require touchups/replacement only after eating, never feather, and aren’t drying. They stay on so well, sometimes they stay home when I go out! They certainly perform better than far more expen$ive lipsticks I’ve tried. They are indeed matte. The packaging is attractive, seems sturdy enough, and the caps stay on when they do accompany me to gigs and galleries. There are 28 colors in the range: reds and pinks, beiges and browns through peaches and oranges, a few purples, black, two grays, four blues (!), and two greens.
I got five of these. One was the very pretty, dark Purple Affair for a friend who loves purple makeup. She raved about it. Two were given away because they proved disappointing. The two I kept are great.
I kept Turquoise Aesthetic and Blue Lagoon. Both are very pretty but weird colors (for lipsticks that is), and draw compliments from fellow non-conformists of all ages and sexes whenever I wear ’em. 😉 Turquoise Aesthetic is a very pretty light greenish blue. I’d actually like a backup or two in this color. Blue Lagoon is quite dark, much darker than in the pics, and I gave it to a friend. I decided it was a little too dark for me.
The ones who really let me down are pinks. Sweet Thrill was not thrilling. Pics make it look like a very interesting deepish fuchsia, but in the tube it’s a rather different-looking medium pink w/blue in it. It bored me when I tried it on. 😉 Pretty, just not at all unusual. I gave it to a brunette friend with golden olive skin, and it will look great on her. 🙂 [She also got the Nicka K Dark Magenta one I bought that day. It looked so very cool in the tube, but so very ‘This Can Be Worn To Work Because It Is So Very Safe’ on me! It will look purple-y and wonderful on her, though. She loved it.]
Pink Flamenco was the other one I gave away. It looks like a brightish lavender-y pink in photos, a bit softer in reality, and also looked too typical on me for my tastes, too ‘straight.’ Somehow all the blue in this one completely disappeared once it was on my lips. I gave it to a blonde friend who’s fair and has a good amount of pink undertones, so it will work well for her.
All three friends raved when they met these lippies. The two who got the give-aways even said they knew they’d work for them, though they are unlike other lippies they have.
I might’ve grabbed a few more of these had the shop carried them. Aquatic Blue is a light and vaguely greenish blue. Mojito Lover is a light minty green. Beet Me looks like an interesting beet pink/fuchsia sort of thing in the pics, but given my experiences, I wouldn’t know what to expect!

Mac is the old grandma of the makeup game at the moment .. everything just feels so .. average?
I have worn all finishes of the Mac lipsticks and I have to say the matte is my most disliked it leaves that horrible white rim around my lips after just an hour or so! The colour bleeds despite the usual routine I do which works for other brands .. I just do not ever gravitate to Mac anymore . It’s overhyped and overpriced

Love the Matte formula by MAC, I have Velvet Teddy, Chili and Russian Red. I love the colour saturation, the finish and they really aren’t drying like other mattes. Not moisturizing, just not drying as bad. Which most mattes do. These are almost creamy.
They don’t bleed, they last thru a meal, they hang in for quite a while before needing a touch up. Nice vanilla scent, not too strong, just a pleasant experience.
I’d buy more but I need a few more options in the nude or mlbb type shades. Honeylove is a bit too pale and washed out, Kinda Sexy is waaay too peach. Whirl makes me look dead and Mehr is too dark and blue.
I’m a pale NW15 and Velvet Teddy is pretty good but a bit brown. I pinkify it using my Rimmel East End Snob lip liner if pinkify is a word. Or hit it with a little smidge of BrickOLa (Amplified finish, a wonderful berry shade).
They have some terrific reds in the matte line. I have 2 that I mentioned above that I can count on for long comfortable wear with no fear of lipstick wandering out of bounds. But I’d wear more if I could find shades that worked on me.
emptyPoultry7
I have the shades Honeylove and Hi-Fructease. This is a great matte formula, it’s very comfortable and creamy but doesn’t transfer too much. It does wear off in the center of the lips so you need to reapply a few times.
excitedMallard8
These are undeniably the most moisturizing matte lipsticks I’ve ever tried! (My favorite two were part of the holiday 2016 Nutcracker Sweet collection.) I adore these lipsticks because they are highly pigmented, last for hours on end, and don’t dry out my lips even in harsh winter weather. This formula rocks in other words! Plus, this type of MAC lipstick comes in a wide range of shades, meaning there’s something for pretty much everyone. If this product is applied with a lip brush, it can create the most gorgeous stain, too, if you want the play around with the formula and see what it can do. I can absolutely see why makeup artists around the world rave about MAC lipsticks and these matte ones in particular. Try one if you’re curious because you assuredly won’t be disappointed.
debonairSheep0
I <3 all MAC lipsticks! Mattes are good, better than any kinds of brand of mattes (I guess the other mattes I really like are by wetnwild for traditional bullets & liquid velour lipstick (Jeffree Star)). I love Honeylove, Taupe, Whirl, I have a mix of different finishes in my collection I go by colors rather than finishes coz I love them ALL! I'm more of a Lipglass girl even thou I keep on growing my MAC lipstick collection. MAC Mattes are the longest lasting most beautiful finishes of traditional bullets. There is a color for ev1 there I'm sure u can find 1 in a color u like 🙂
excitedPup2
MAC Mattes are a bit drying, but I love the pigmentation. I have rosy lips, and while I prefer the glossiness of Lustres, sometimes I need a little more coverage, especially for a nude lip. I currently own Honeylove and it does a great job toning down my pigmented lips. To solve the dryness problem, I usually top with a gloss, or apply balm beforehand.
soreVenison8
I purchased TAUPE. The colour is exactly as described on http://www.maccosmetics.com.au and on my NC25 skin it was a perfect match. The formulation is creamy and highly pigmented, so a light hand is needed. A technique that I use and works really well is to apply directly from the tube on to my lips, starting from the middle and upto halfway across on either side, on the top and bottom lips. When I press my lips together, the remaining product is spread across to the sides of the lips. To counteract the dryness, I apply a drop of extra virgin olive oil on my lips after immediately after washing my face, and don’t wipe it off. This lippie has great staying power and the colour is fantastic, and would suit minimal eye make up.
excludedLocust3
These are great lipsticks for the price! Amazing colour selection and while they do not last forever they fade elegantly. Personally I think super matte long staying lipsticks are overrated. I much prefer something I can comfortably wear and reapply. Packaging is elegant too!
contentRaisins2
I have Landinski which is a deep purple toned colour. It very smooth to apply and it very pigmented, however, it is drying, so make sure to put some chapstick on a little while before you apply it (I work this into my routine by putting chaptick and moisturiser on at the same time so it’s sunk in a bit by the time I’m applying lipstick). It smells a bit vanilla-y and I’m not too keen on it, but it’s nice enough and not too noticeable.
The packaging, again, is nice enough, but feels a little on the cheap side (possibly because it was). I had an issue with the bullet coming loose because it melted a little (funnily enough, lipsticks tend to do that when they’re in a handbag for eight hours in the desert).
TL;DR: It’s a nice colour, but is a little drying.

I think there are 4 colors in this matte lipstick line I’m not sure. I’m reviewing the nude one I picked up its called Bardot. I think these are new as i had never seen them before in the H&M store. This is the only one i own so far.
Back to the review, since this is a matte lipstick yes it is dry. I wouldn’t wear it alone. The color though…..it is a cool toned nude. I think it might not look good on a lot of people even if you have cool toned skin. It is a peach/pink nude. I have yellow undertone skin and it doesn’t look too good on me. If i wear this alone it is what i call a white nude color because you get that really pale outline on your lips. Basically you wouldn’t want to slather this on but rather just dab it on & not put too much on. I can only wear this color paired with other lipsticks so that its wearable. Would i buy it again? No.
spiritedMoth5
it’s a shame that this lipstick doesn’t get much recognition. I love them! i own the reds 006 and 007 and they’re both lovely! I bought this way way back when it first came out and this is hands down one of the best matte lipsticks out there. On par if not better than MAC matte lipsticks for a fraction of the price. The formula is not drying, it’s matte but not super matte so it still give dimensions to your lips. It costs 65k Rupiahs here so around 5 bucks, cheaper I supposed than buying in the US because it is Indonesian made (surprise, surprise). I guess it’s not super popular because of the color selection, but I think this line covered pretty much all the basic colors. Try this if you’re looking a cheap (but great) alternative to MAC matte lipstick you won’t regret it!

I think Revlon is discontinuing these lipsticks. I tested 015-Seduction Sienna (deep brown) in the store and was totally in love. I just kept thinking about it… I did use it on top of my pink lipstick and it was such an elegant colour, I felt like Jessica Alba on the red carpet.
Turns out it is buy 1 free 1. So I took 006-Really Red as the free gift even though I was unsure as I have a lot of reds.
I came home tried both of them again. Boy was I in for a surprise!
Really Red – Old Hollywood red. It was gorgeous! Sophisticated and elegant. Very gala night feel.
Seduction Sienna – This one looks different than in the store. It’s a deep brown on its own and could be hard to work with. I love it though. I don’t have colours like these, staying so safe with coral & bright reds… I’m loving this old Hollywood lips so much.

I bought a bunch of these in different shades on sale for $3.99 at SDM since they’re regularly $7.99 – $10.49 and it was the best decision I ever made! I wasn’t really into lip products but these have got me hooked! I typically apply a thin layer of lipbalm, do my face makeup, and then apply the lipstick. Then I either blot it with a layer of tissue paper OR I dip my finger into some power and apply it on top. I LOVE the matte finish it gives and man did I hit jackpot with “Mauve It Over”. It is my HG lipstick!!
I took 1 lippie off the packaging because for some reason out of the 8 – 9 Revlon matte lipsticks I bought, MIO was the only one that seemed to always scrape the white plastic in the tube so the bullet came up pretty scratched up after a few uses. Even if I had not dropped it and it broke, I would have probably still depotted it into another container.
bubblyMackerel8
I like the feel of these SL Matte lipsticks, moisturizing but they don’t come off with one sip of water. But the colors just don’t work great for me – I’ll try the regular Super Lustrous range.
Mauve it Over is a pretty, muted milky shade of berry. It just disappears on my skin tone (NC25) and natural lips because my own lips happen to be this pretty shade of berry!
Really Red is nice but a bit too sharp, like tones of vermillion in it almost. I might need to layer it with a deeper red.
fondBoars2
I had four or five of these lipsticks and because they are being discontinued in (my part of?) Europe I was able to get them for cheaper in many stores in the last months. I gave ”Really red” and ”In the red” to my friend because they were not creamy enough (I like my reds creamy) and because the color wasn’t very flattering on my NW15 skin, plus they looked like they were dupes of each other so there was no point in having both. I really don’t understand how one range that contains about 20-30 lipsticks includes two that look almost the same.
Nude attitude had a nice formula but the color was catastrophic, it was a sickly orangey nude, not a pretty pink/brown one so I tossed it a week after I got it.
I really like Pink about it and it is probably my favorite shade in the range, very vibrant and summery. The formula unfortunately does accentuate any dry spot and even moisturizing beforehand doesn’t help a lot plus you end up with glossy lips which isn’t the look I go for when I buy a matte lipstick.
Sky Pink (which I am not sure belongs in this range) is a beautiful color but because of its paleness the dry patches are even more obvious and even good preparation of lips doesn’t help IMO.
All in all I am happy that there is a matte range in drugstores but the formula really isn’t anything special, I find Wet n’ wild’s matte lipstick line much better.
Once applied on the lips the feeling wasn’t that uncomfortable but it still wasn’t that pleasant to wear. The lipstick doesn’t have a scent or taste. I would buy again because I noticed some shades are better than others and because there are so many pretty colors in it. I am quite sad that I couldn’t get my hands on Strawberrry suede.
superiorCordial6
I am going to disagree with the other reviewers — I don’t like this lipstick. I have it in Nude Attitude and Smoked Peach. Maybe there are differences in quality between different colors but these two colors I have come on very unevenly and cling to dry patches even when you don’t have dry patches! I would recommend Sephora’s number 07 in Maniac Mat if you want a nude peach and one of NYX matte lipsticks if you are looking for a standard nude.

i love love these lipsticks, i never would have thought i would love matte lipstick but these have changed my mind, i have pink shades and wish they would make more, maybe ill get a red one, who knows, but these have what made me fall in love with revlon as a brand.

I have tried only one of the Dolce Matte lipsticks and I really am happy with the quality and results!
Firstly – it is not your usual dry matte formula; even though you get quite an opaque and buildable coverage you still can see a soft sheen throughout your lips that adds more life to an otherwise utterly dry lipstick.
I really like the top of the actual lipstick, as it manages to cover my lips perfectly with only a little of the lip liner needed. The only thing I am not a fan of – is the scent, but considering such luscious woderful colors that this range offers, I can bear it!
If you want a better, in-depth review on D&G lipsticks then this review (below) might help you out.

Blown away by this lipstick! I purchased this on Sephora. I don’t really buy high end lipsticks. The most high end lipsticks I’ve bought have been from Dior and Lancome if you consider that high end. I don’t consider NARS, Stila, Lorac, MAC, or any of those you can get at the mall high end. I purchased it on Sephora because I thought that if I didn’t like it I could just return it no problem. I seen the advertisements for the lipstick on Dolce & Gabbana’s instagram. I fell in love with the whole Spanish classic look. They looked absolutely beautiful so classic. They also advertised that there was quite a bit of technology into the making of the matte lipsticks. I was intrigued because no matter what the finish and longevity of a LIQUID matte lipstick blows the traditonal stick matte lipstick out of the water. This applied with not too much drag or slip. It felt just right for being a matte lipstick. it is probably the most comfortable matte lipstick with just the right opaqueness. The finish is AMAZING comparable to a matte liquid lipstick. Although it’s right under $40 it’s opaque enough that you do NOT need to use more than one swipe to get full coverage. My lips do feel hydrated and I have to admit I have very dry lips I have those lips that some days you even put balm on before the lips and the lines and cracks are extra bad because of the dryness. None of that is seen with this lipstick. The bad is that it’s hard to pick a color because I can barely find swatches. I expected a different more rosey red but this is like the perfect red but it actually looks (based on online swatches) like the Dolce firey or fire. I am definitely purchasing more. This formula is amazing and in my opinion I do have to say that the technology part is NOT a gimmick. I have NEVER found a matte lipstick like this NEVER!

One thing I’ve learned is that when Sephora says matte, they really mean it. Point in case is their cream lip stain. This has a very nice scent to it, a kind of raspberry that is not too sickening for my liking. It is very highly pigmented such that you don’t even have press the lipstick down on your lips to get the colour on. The staying power is phenomenal, and does minimal transfer. I am giving this a 3 because it can be quite drying, unlike its cream lip stain. Applying a lip balm under, however, would also ruin the matte effect.

I picked up an orange color because i REALLY wanted an orange lip color. It looks like a bright reddish orange on the tube and even on but after an hour the color doesnt look orange but rather a very bright red. I still like it but not quite orange unless if i apply balm, the lipstick, then orange powder.
When you first apply it is really soft and creamy and in a few second it becomes matte which i really love!
I prefer to apply this in layers instead of a whole lot on once. So i pat it on and continue to build.
It stay put for the most part.
Id repurchase this even though it is a little pricey.

This are by far my favorite lipsticks. I have only 2 at the moment but I grab them continuously. They are so creamy for being a long lasting matte l/s and the staying power is quite impressive. I also like they way they smell, nothing over bearing by any means. Frag is l/s is a huge turnoff for me. These are definitely underrated l/s in my opinion!

I tried this stuff in store and walked around the mall with it, and while I kind of want to give it a 2, I have to admit that the color was very pretty and it really wasn’t that bad. The main problem I had with it was that it lasted all of two seconds. Okay, I exaggerate a little, but it certainly had very, very little staying power; it stuck with me about an hour before I couldn’t see any hint of pigment. However, Sephora has a huge range of colors for pretty cheap, and maybe with a lip primer you’ll have better luck than I did! In its defense, I’m not very gloss/lipstick conscious, and don’t make much of an effort to keep it in place. So, for its price it’s what I expected, although I can’t help but be a bit disappointed.

Slid into my creases! Will not repurchase.

This is a good bang for the buck. I bought an outrageous hot pink to wear when I sing on stage and it was a much better product than I expected. The scent was a very nice sort of berry. It went on well, felt pleasant, and stayed on very well while not drying my lips out.

This review is for the colour Spice.
I bought this colour with the purpose to dupe Taupe by MAC. I like the colour of Taupe, but it’s not cruelty free. After searching high and low for an alternative I came to this, and so far, I have been *really* pleased with it!
Let’s start with formula. I was kind of blown away, you guys. It’s surprisingly lightweight, like how a soft layer of lip balm would feel (minus the moisturizing qualities of a balm, of course). It’s like there’s barely anything there (even though it’s still completely opaque in one swipe!). However, despite being truly matte, this is ridiculously comfortable. I’ve been wearing matte lipsticks for years (both bullets and liquid lipsticks) so I’ve had my share, and this is one of the few that didn’t make me grab for a tissue to wipe it off and moisturize after a long day of wearing. It feels like it has been freshly applied all day. It also doesn’t get that dry, thick, crusty look that matte lipsticks can have on your lips. The formula is really long wearing, too – naturally, it’s not transfer proof (what bullet lipstick truly is?) and I do need some small touch-ups during the day after eating, but it really does stay put, and if it fades, it fades very evenly and elegant. It also doesn’t bleed at all: this is one of the few lipsticks I can wear without a lip liner and still looks good at the end of the day.
(However, it’s not a lipstick that would convert a former matte-lipstick hater. It’s still a matte formula, but just a really really good one!)
Then onto the colour. Online, this looked like a warm reddish brown with some orange tones. My undertone is a pale olive leaning yellow, and it pulls more mauve/rose on me than on other people. When I wear cool colours it looks warmer, but otherwise, it’s a rosy brown with a hint of red (Temptalia’s swatch is close to how it looks on me, but it’s browner and a lot darker on me since I’m very light).
Is it a dupe for MAC’s Taupe? I wouldn’t necessarily say so. It’s definitely *very* close and in the same family, so I don’t feel the need to search for a closer dupe as I’m satisfied with this, but Taupe is warmer on me and more brown. If you want an affordable dupe that’s closer, Milani’s Matte Beauty is very close, but I didn’t like the formula on that line.
As for the last details, it doesn’t have any scent or taste, which I like. I love the packaging: it’s a sturdy metal tube with gorgeous rose gold details. It looks very fancy to pull out of your purse and it feels comfortable in your hand.
I really would recommend these lipsticks to anyone who’s looking for a good line of cruelty-free and vegan matte yet comfortable lipsticks, with high quality. I’ve been wearing this one every day since I got it. I wish there were more colours in the line that spoke to me! (Don’t get me wrong, with 36 colours there’s more than enough for everyone, but they mostly run cool toned which tend to look bad on me. If they made a medium burnt orange-brown shade, I would never wear anything else).
I paid ~€20 and I definitely think they are worth the money.
**EDIT January 2020: I pretty much finished mine!! Not sure if I would repurchase. I still adore the formula, but the shade is a little too rosy for me. I now also own the shade Brandy (a deep brownish red on me) and I adore the formula with this one as well. It’s the perfect formula for a vampy lip since it requires so little maintenance, fades nicely and doesn’t bleed.

I got this in the Sephora Give Me Some Lip set for $25USD. In it I got a full sized Anastasia Beverly Hills Matte Lipstick in Ruby along with 5 other mini’s in different colors & forms. My DF got this for me & I normally hate red lipstick so I’m like I’m not even going to use this! Then my friend posted a pic of her wearing red lipstick & I was like well maybe this will work. So I tried it again & fell in love! It’s so like you’re not feeling like you are wearing lipstick. It is light as a feather. It does feel a little dry but not tight and dehydrated. It is $18 so for $25 (the set I got 5 other products for $7! Eep!!) . The thing I hate about red lipstick is that it’s high maintenance. You have to worry about your water bottle, getting it on your teeth, eating etc but this “ticks” all the boxes for me. It stays put! I wouldn’t ordinarily pick red but Ruby is a great true red not blue not orange totally neutral & not in-your-face-bright nor garish. I would buy more of these lipsticks if they weren’t $18. I kno MAC is $18, I feel like this is a better lipstick than Ruby Woo. I just seldom get to Sephora & after a screwed up w ordering don’t want to order. So I prob won’t get another 1 of these lipsticks. But I will enjoy this Ruby lipstick. It’s my perf red sexy librarian “look” (I wear glasses). I would highly recommend this lipstick. It does not budge for anything. It doesn’t drag on the lips to apply. I haven’t blunted the tip yet so it’s got precision to apply.

While I do agree with others that there is a slight pull when applying, I find these to be a very nice, more affordable option for lipstick. I like the color selection and I like that these have no perfume-y taste. I also like that these last quite a while through light drinking and eating, and that these fade very evenly. I always use a lip primer underneath. My video review below has swatches. I do like that these are under $20- I think that is a decent price for a more upscale brand. My more detailed review with swatches is here:

Jordana, despite your 1980’s gold packaging, your lipstick is right on time. Several of these that I have tried are dead ringers for some of my MAC shades – and texture is spot on too. Great wear, easy to apply or build up/layer. I can’t think of a better way to spend a couple of bucks, just wish these were easier to get in Canada. The tubes are a bit flimsy and I have had one bust open, so I McGyver’d it with tape until I could get it safely into a pill box. But I also understand that if the tubes were heftier, the price would likely go up. Jordana’s Modern Mattes are dope also, but with a bit sleeker and sexier packaging. Fave everyday shades include: Natural, Pink Passion, Classic Nude and Taupe.

I love a good red lip, in fact it’s now a staple in my everyday ritual but let me tell you that finding the one that is not only wearable but long lasting with a great color payoff and does not break the bank, it’s like winning the lipstick jackpot. I own three shades of the matte reds: Rouge, Scarlet Red and Hot Kiss. Rouge is a blue based red, Scarlet Red is a more neutral red, it is warmer than Rouge and then there is Hot Kiss. I feel like this is somewhat rare to come by, it might be new or maybe I just discovered it. It is a vibrant orange based red. Now all of these have a scent to them that I find pleasant. Rouge has somewhat of a fruity scent like cherries, while Scarlet Red and Hot Kiss smell like some sort of vanilla. They all apply well, Rouge feels a tad drier than the others but still creamy. They do last if not eating greasy foods or drinking without a straw but I feel they work best with the Jordana lipliner. I will usually fill in the entire lip with the lipliner called Plush Plum which is a berry red with a hint of brown then apply whichever shade I’m in the mood for. The color is to die for but still bit too creamy for my taste, so I blot off the excess with some tissue and end with a matte silky feel. It’s not fully transfer proof mind you and you will have to reapply sometimes throughout the day but they’re not overly drying plus they wear off more like stain. The packaging could be better but honestly I’m not complaining, some might find it tacky but I like the vintage look they were aiming for. Overall, these are great.
Update: I’ve been recently wearing it without the liner. One thing I noticed was that when drinking it can wear off peeling in the center. However, it held on pretty well while eating despite the oils. It didn’t disappear, so you can spread around the left out color with your lips and it’ll look ok. Definitely not sandwich proof, but then again most lipsticks aren’t.

Matte Bare is a fantastic my MLBB shade. The matte texture doesn’t dry out my lips and if you want, place NYX Fortune Cookie Butter Gloss on top and you’d be in the game!

I love MAC’s matte lipsticks. My favorites are Ruby Woo, Rocker, Velvet, and Lovedust. They don’t feel dry on me at all. I love how the matte lipsticks last all day. I don’t have to constantly reapply, like I do with lustres and amplified cremes. Unfortunately MAC has discontinued many gorgeous matte colors, like Lovedust, and almost every single new lipstick they make is either a frost or a lustre. I just wish there were more matte colors to choose from…

Couldn’t agree with CarlaN more. MAC makes the BEST Matte lipsticks on the planet, and I personally don’t find them drying at all!
“Ruby Woo” and “Lady Danger” are easily my two favourite lipsticks on the planet. “Rocker” is also an interesting colour, though I find the irridescent glitter through it a bit weird, in a matte lipstick.
Chili and Russian Red are also beautiful, beautiful matte reds which are highly recommended, though I don’t own either as for some reason neither of these shades look as “red” on me as my beloved “Ruby Woo”.
And as for “Glam”, well that’s just SUCH a beautiful lipstick!!! Words fail me to describe the bright, bright, bright, beautiful cherry intensity and lasting power of that particular lipstick!!!
For bright-coloured lips, it’s always MAC’s “Amplified Creme” formulation that gets all the attention, but IMHO the matte gives a much better intensity, lastability and finish: I find some of the Amplified Creme’s go on a bit patchy on my dry lips and need a bit of lip salve underneath – whereas me matte’s are fine, curiously enough. I also find the A.C’s don’t last half as well and ALWAYS need liner (whereas if I line my lips with a bit of lipstick on a brush, that’s fine if I’m using a MAC matte).
If you like brights, don’t overlook this finish. It might take some getting used to as the high pigmentation and thicker finish of this lipstick is not really like anything else, but I think it’s beautiful. Also, it’s not a flat, dry-looking “matte” – Glam, Lady Danger and Ruby Woo (being the ones I personally know best) have a tiny touch of creamy sheen to their finish, which stops them being too flat to wear without gloss.

I realize that there are many people who have their reasons for disliking this product, but I absolutely love it!
Yes, the matte formula can be drying, but I find that swipe of Chapstick underneath alleviates that, at least for me.
The best part is that the color payoff is simply unparalleled. If you favor sheer, light, gloss-like lipsticks that don’t stain, avoid MAC mattes at all cost. You will loathe them.
But if you, like I, have a weakness for full-on, no-doubt-about-it color, this lippie’s for you!
Note: Many mattes(“Ruby Woo” is an excellent example), tend to look dull and flat when worn alone, but come to life with a bit of clear gloss on top.
I have several mattes, and I look forward to getting more!

I have mauve it over and will be repurchasing it once it runs out – I wear it constantly, it goes with everything! My favourite lipstick hands down, will be buying in some other shades at some point.

These are amazing lipsticks. They are matte and don’t feel drying AT ALL they don’t have a scent. They are very creamy and glide on smoothly. They last a long time and don’t smudge all over my teeth. My mom loves them too. Go buy some! 😀

Revlon’s matte lipstick formula is opaque, pigmented, shimmerless, and best of all, non-drying. I have three shades — Mauve it Over (medium warm nude), Sky Pink (pale peachy pink), and Pink About It (a saturated bright pinkish coral), which is my favorite.
