Pink Nude is a gorgeous shade and it’s a beautifully soft every day pink. Some “pink nudes” have a lot of peach in them or lean brown. This does not shift orange on me; it is light to medium in depth and flattering on most skin tones. It’s moist, amply pigmented, and fragrance free. I think most light to medium complexions could wear Pink Nude and Almost Bare with ease.
I tried the cooler and paler Pink Cloud at Sephora and while the color is lovely, the Pink Cloud color in the Luxe formula does not appear to wear uniformly; I saw pale pink waxiness collect in the natural grooves of the lip, like little irrigation ditches, so that when I smiled my lips looked cracked and weird. I’m not talking about “fine lines” outside the vermilion border of the mouth; I don’t have wrinkles around my mouth, and if I did, the color doesn’t bleed. I’m referring to the grooves everyone — even small children — have on the rosy skin of the lips themselves. Bobbi Brown’s original Lip Color formula doesn’t split like this; the Luxe formula is the only one that does and I only noticed it in Pink Cloud. For this reason, I won’t buy Pink Cloud.
The color Pink Nude, however, is a deeper shade that is closer to the natural hue of my lips (albeit prettier and brighter) and I don’t notice obvious splitting with this one even though the formula is the same. Almost Bare is more of a honey nude or brownish nude, along the lines of MAC Velvet Teddy, and it’s deep enough that I didn’t have a groove issue with that one either.
On the plus side, Luxe Lip Color does not feel drying. Pink Nude holds up well for me and I’m a coffee drinker. It transfers less to cups than Brown’s original Lip Color formula, but my favorite transfer-resistant lipstick is Giorgio Armani’s Rouge D’Armani. That one doesn’t have the dry texture of all day lip paints; it feels like a normal lipstick, but there is some left on my lips even after I eat lunch.
I’m giving this Luxe lipstick a favorable review, mainly because the Pink Nude shade is truly beautiful and perfect for a classic, natural look, but I do wish Bobbi Brown were a cruelty free brand, and I think $35 is overpriced.
