I am always looking to try out new brands for liquid lipsticks and the Black Moon Liquid to Matte Lipsticks caught my attention due to their varied and constantly expanding color selection and highly positive reviews. I ended up purchasing four colors: Buried (a deep magenta), Libra (beige nude), Mortis (deep red), and Selene (a pearlescent deep plum). The applicator is slightly angled, but otherwise straight. It was a new one for me, but I actually found that this style of applicator made application easy. They all also have a birthday cake scent! If you do not like scents, it does fade away quickly. Before application I typically exfoliate my lips, which I find creates better results with this line of lipsticks. I found the formula in all of the shades to be lightweight, but fairly drying. Selene, which leans more metallic than matte, was the exception and I found it to be less drying than the other shades. I found the lipstick functioned best when applying a more thin, single layer and gently patting for touch ups if you have to. With Buried, Libra, and Mortis a single layer was best to prevent flaking. With Selene having a different texture, I was able to apply product more liberally. I found all of the shades applied evenly and without patchiness, except for Selene, which is prone to patchiness. This was also the best way to touch up the lipstick after eating. The lipstick held up fairly well against food. I only noticed feathering after eating with Mortis, but it was nothing that a cotton swab could not fix. Spot touch ups after a meal are better than reapplying a full layer, as a full layer would create a flakey feeling in the lipstick although the lipstick will not necessarily flake on the surface. The lipsticks stay on very well and can take a little effort to remove if it has been on for awhile. I found the shade Buried consistently would stain the lips. Mortis occasionally left stains. Despite this, I was still pleased with the results. At $18 for a tube they are consistent with prices of other big name liquid lipsticks. Black Moon frequently has sales so it is easy to pick them up for cheaper, as I did with mine. Overall I have been very happy with this line of lipsticks. I would recommend them to other people, particularly if they are not bothered with a slightly dryer formula.
