I am reviewing the shade Sassy Fuchsia.
This lipstick formula is very nice and creamy, and the colour can be applied sheerly for a light wash of fuchsia, or built up for a more dramatic, night-time colour. I don’t find it to be drying, it doesn’t smudge easily and is comfortable to wear. It is a gorgeous colour and reminds me somewhat of Mac’s Girl About Town lippy. However, unlike the Mac colour, this lipstick does not last very long and fades quickly – even without eating or drinking. It has to be touched up constantly throughout the day. Because of this, I would not repurchase.

I received a sample of Mary Kay’s True Dimensions lipstick in Sassy Fuschia from a representative. It’s $18 a tube and definitely not worth the price; it took quite a while to get a decent amount of pigment from it, dried out my lips something terrible (they market it as “intensely moisturising” — don’t believe it), and wore off within an hour (and I’m someone who does wear lipstick daily, so I know all the tricks to getting it to last all day). Yikes. It was a nice colour for the little while it stayed on my lips, but I can’t say I’d use it again.

I own many Mary Kay lipsticks and I can say with confidence they are HG products. From the regular lipstick line, I own the shades Nutmeg and Shell. From the limited edition lipsticks I own the shade Give Dreams. And from the True Dimension lipsticks I own the shade Natural Beauté. They are all my favorite and work perfectly according to occasion! Shell and Natural Beauté are like my nude lipstick colors since I wear them so much! They all work perfectly with my yellow under toned skin and red hair, every shade I own creates different looks! They have great pigmentation, glide smoothly and are durable. The only con is that regular lipsticks aside from True Dimensions tend to dry the lips after continuous usage. And the prices are a little steep ($13- $18), I am sure I can find close shade matches at the drugstore for a lot less.

I just ordered a three pack of limited edition MK lipstick off ebay in the colors: give hope, give dreams, give joy. I LOVE THEM! they are creamy, and remind me of a cross between MAC frost and MAC satin lipsticks. They do have some shimmer, but no glitter gloop and no wierd smell. They are creamy, and stay on. I applied after breakfast, and ate lunch, and got a solid 6 hours of wear. I am excited to get the MK celebrate swirly lipstick and see how it compares. Will give more updates. Side note: they are expensive when you buy them from a MK rep, check ebay and amazon and you can find them for 1/2 the cost.

Good points:
– Colors are “true”.
– Packaging is good
– Some of the colors look great for red heads like me (not all companies have colors that look great on redheads).
Bad points:
– Not extra moisturizing or extra long lasting
– Comes off very easily on coffee cups, etc
– Has a “moderate hazard rating” on the EWG’s Skin Deep database.
– Need to reapply throughout day.
For now my go to lipstick is “Real Purity” brand lipstick, as it also has colors that look good on redheads, is moisturizing and long lasting and scored better on the EWG’s Skin Deep database, but am always looking for for lipsticks from other brands as well as I have very little brand loyalty 🙂

For $15 retail (from a MK consultant – less if you get them on ebay) MK lipsticks are a decent value – if you can find a shade you like. I have had winners (Passion Pink) and losers (Pink Satin) over the years. Decent formula – not too drying (but not terribly hydrating either). Some shades “wear” better and longer than others (Cremes vs. Shimmers). Decent selection of shades – they change and d/c them all the time (annoying). There is a new line (2012) called True Dimensions – which sells for $18 and has a longer thinner silver tube. Have not tried them yet.
Update: It is now 2018 and I just tried the Gel Semi-Shine in Luminous Lilac for $18.
MK changes the packaging, colors and formula ALL. THE. TIME. Meanwhile, still good stuff.
I also bought the Gel Semi Shine in Apple Berry (very nice – deep/dark plum/berry/red) and Raspberry Ice (boring mid-toned/cool-toned pink/mauve.).
I have also tried their True Dimensions Sheer lipstick (a bit more coverage than a tinted balm) in Sparkling rose. Nice but also nothing amazing,

I agree with the reviewer who said the lipstick colors are a variation of themselves. But I do love some of the colours. Hibiscus is one of my fave lipstick colors but it seriously dries out my lips. fashion fair tropic pink is it’s exact dupe swatched both on my hands and on my lips and it’s more moisturising but for the smell! Eek! Sunny citrus and citrus outburst (both mary kay) remind me of mac’s morange and cb96. Yet to find out if they are dupes. I like the vanilla scent. Wouldn’t say the colors are true to tube cos I hibiscus doesn’t look like a fuschia in the tube until applied. I find all the other colours in the line boring and frosty looking. Apple berry looks pretty though. Would have to check that out
UPDATE: purchased sunny citrus today and here’s my review on it. It’s a sheer glossy red-orange. Nowhere like mac’s cb96 or morange. Actually closer to so chaud but it’s the glossier, sheerer and slightly darker version of so chaud. It’s definitely not as bright as I had anticipated although it does look bright in the tube. Guess the sheerness plays down the colour intensity. It applies as a not so bright glossy red orange on my lips but as time goes on, the colour becomes more red than orange but still maintaining the shine. The colour doesn’t bleed but I did notice a bit of settling in lip lines (not sure if this is a result of my using pure shea butter as lip balm just before applying the lipstick, or if the lipstick itself is just funny like that). It has the regular vanilla scent which the new mk lipsticks now have. Doesn’t do much for my complexion. Quite meh on me. Should suit a lighter skin tones. I’m caramel for ref think mac nc 44/45

I will keep this review short and concise. I own two of these lipsticks: Sweden and Belarus. I love the pigmentation and colour, but both have broken and I don’t use an absurd amount of pressure when applying my lipstick.

The Gel Matte Lipsticks are off the hook, Holy Grail good. They last all day without retouch or feathering (over primer and liner), don’t dry out my lips, and if you prefer a shinier finish just apply a gloss overtop. “Endless Love” is my new favorite red, replacing MAC’s Ruby Woo.
Pros: Saturated colour; easy smooth application; very, very long lasting; not drying.
Cons: Expensive; somewhat limited range (though a new release of nudes has just come out and they are great for MLBB fans).
Summary: Will buy these forever. Worth the price.

EDIT: October 16, 2012: I also purchased this in Sweden, which is a slightly brown-based nude pink. I love Sweden! Brightens the face no end, not too light for my skin tone. Lasting power, smoothness, and finish are great as well. All in all, very happy with this line.

Own this in Kenya, which is a medium slightly plummy mauve, med-gloss finish and no shimmer. With a name like Vasanti, I’d expect the colors to flatter brown/tan/bronze/olive skinned women, and it does not fail. For reference, I’m about NC40 with MAC but not as yellow. I haven’t seen any other line of lipstick where nearly every colour looked good on me…and there are something like 20 shades. However, I’m a fan of mauve so this one was a go. I can wear it sheer or any level of intensity and it still looks good, day or night. It does not dry my lips out, and the colour has decent wear. I’m glad to support a brand that caters to my needs and I will repurchase–this is an excellent value for money. Also, it’s available at Rexall PharmaSave (in Canada) so it’s easier to find than I thought!

I’m NC37-NC40 and had to revise my review. I really like vasanti lippies! They’re worth checking out if you have yellow based skintones. Not all the lippies are flattering, as with any other brand, but the lineup is littered with gems. I have Aruba, which is the perfect pink nude for me, and Italy, which is a good nude to pair with bright eyeshadow. I think Vasanti does nude lipsticks well. Half of their lineup is nudes and the other half is very very dark, mostly brown, dramatic shades. They don’t really have anything going on in between. The nude half is excellent, the super dark half I’m not very fond because it doesn’t suit my taste.

I bought the ‘Egypt’ colour off the website. I love it, and will def. buy it again. The lipstick is high quality, has a nice shimmer, in a chic way. The site gives a ‘Shade Intensity Rating’ for every colour, and it was very accurate.

I ordered Nepal from the website, and didn’t really find that it fit the description that well. I was expecting something more brown… this was more pink than I expected. It’s a nice shade but I think I could probably find something pretty similar in a drug store brand. I want to try Jordan but I’m a little iffy about it now.

I really like this l/s a lot – goes on fairly matte with a lot of pigment, nice staying power. I know the line is geared more towards women w/yellow undertones, but I’ll tell you, even a pinkish ppp can make a love match with this line! I tried Kenya, which is a medium rosey plum. It’s a beautiful shade. I like it with the Tasmin l/g (also in the plum family, but a little more purple) or with a clear gloss to show off the color.

Mary Kay has some great products, but their lipsticks are not among those:( Horrible, waxy perfumed taste/texture, very drying formula and very frosted colors, reminds me of the lipsticks I used to play with as a kid in the 70’s

First things first – Anyone who looks at the entire range of MK lipsticks can tell you that there are a few key shades and the rest of the line is a variation of these shades. I wont lie about that. Im not crazy about the entire line with the exception of two colors – the Red and Hibiscus.
‘Red’ is the best red lipstick I have ever used. The color is a beautiful red that is neither too bright, too orange or too pink. It is a lovely red ruby color and every time I wear it, I get tons of compliments of it. It isn’t a red that is too distracting or that will wash you out. It is a very complimenting shade. The lipstick itself stays on all day and it does not dry out my lips.
‘Hibiscus’ is the other shade that I’m in love with. I love fuchsia lipstick. Honestly, I do. Not many people wear it but I wish more people did because it can be so incredibly lovely. This shade is a little hot but it is still dark enough to not be overpowering or neon.
The quality of the lipsticks themselves is great and leaves lips feeling soft. But anything else other than these two colors? Not worth the trouble.

I haven’t tried the new formula. I have just lippies that came in the pink (awful package) and silver packages.
I don’t have very dry lips, I don’t eat my lipstick…
I liked the colors, they are intense and last enough time for a normal lipstick.
In winter I paired them with lipgloss because they are not hidrating, but they stay well.
Most colors look good on me (NC35) so, I love this lipsticks… but I can’t say a thing about the new formulation…

Bought this in the Canada Shade..nothing like the description..turned orange and was very dry!! just horrible!! won’t buy this shade ever..maybe another one…

I wanted to try these ever since that article in Allure about Jordan. I went to the website ( ) and was very impressed by the selection of shades they offered and color descriptions, and ended up purchasing 3: Jordan, Italy, and Nepal. Now I’m very glad that I didn’t just get Jordan because even though it was described by Allure to be a shade that flatters all skin tones, it was way too brown for my fair coloring. Italy was a shade of lipstick I normally go for (pinky-brown mauve), so I wasn’t that impressed. Nepal on the other hand, I adore! It’s beige like Jordan, but it has slightly more pink and it has this pink holograph effect (not like gritty micro glitter at all, so fine the lipstick texure isn’t different at all from a normal one) Subtle but eye catching. My only gripe is that I wish these were longer lasting. But I have nepal in my purse at all times so if I need to touch up I’m good to go.

OK, I’ll admit it. I was influenced by that article in Allure about how Vasanti Jordan is the perfect nude. So I went and order three lipsticks from Vasanti. The thing that impressed me first of all is the lipstick case. It’s made of matte metal, and it’s very chic. The textures are soft and creamy while the colors are rather pigmented. The color range is commendable, and they do a good job at describing the colors on their website. The shades really do complement yellow toned ladies. I know I can find these colors elsewhere if I look hard enough, but I’ll rest easy knowing that Vasanti has created colors that are sure to match my complexion. These lipsticks are really quite a steal for CAD$12 when you think about its quality.
