I bought only one of these “The stand out” which on the cap shows a violet/pink shade. On me this pulls VERY pink and is ok but was not the shade I was going for. This one in particular is very sheer so I must either wear a lip liner or it’s a weekend casual on the run lippy for me. It’s matte but I don’t feel over drying but the wear is definitely not matte I need to re apply once every couple of hours.
I did not get the breakage (yet) on my lippy but I do agree that would be very aggravating. I’d rather spend a couple of dollars more and by one of the Pop Beauty colors which have several in the color range I want and their Mattes are MATTE.
4-20-15 – BINGO got the breakage. Yep and I ended up smooshing it trying to get it back in. I need to remember to heat the bottom with a blow dryer till it’s soft and put it back into the tube then into the fridge for an hour to harden it up. I know it’s in expensive but how hard is it to make sure it stays in the tube WnW? BIG FAIL FOR ME>

I wanted to love these lip velvets, The exterior packaging is beautiful, very sleek and feels so “velvety” you can say. I judged based on packaging and I thought they were going to be great so I bought 4 of them as soon as I opened it when I got home, the product fell out, so the actual lip stick fell out from what holds it, it happened with all four so I had to stick it back in the hole. As for wear, it sinks into lines and dries up your lips without Chapstick underneath or over. They are highly pigmented and matte and you do need to reapply after a few hours. I like that the pencil is smaller than chubby sticks because it can work as your lip liner.

So far I just have one of these, in Plumgenue.
Starting off, the tube (or the cap, anyways) makes it look like it might be a deeper plummy shade, and when you open it the lip color looks similar to what you see on the cap. Applied to the skin, however, it’s not quite a match.
I bought it, though, because I’d seem swatches online and I thought it was a pretty plummy pink, and it is. Most of the swatches I’ve seen online, in fact, show a beautiful range of colors for these pencils — I honestly would love to have lipsticks in about six of these shades — but there are a lot of things that might make one pause when considering buying these.
Aside from the lovely color and how it gives the look a natural look with a touch of lively pink-plum color that looks fairly natural and pretty, there are a couple problems.
First, the second time I opened this to apply some lipstick, the lip bullet broke and started to fly out. I caught it in time and put it back. The third time I used it, I expected it could fall out, and tried to prevent that, but my hand tugged a bit too hard on the cap and the bullet went flying again. Fortunately it landed on the counter so I just picked it up carefully and put it back in, but needless to say, I’m not happy with how quickly it broke. (And this seems to be a common complaint online.)
Another thing I noticed is there’s really not very much product here. If you buy, say, a lip crayon by any other brand, you’d get a lot more lip color. This, I’d say there’s maybe no more than an inch and a half of lipstick in the tube, and it’s a much thinner crayon than your average lip crayon (compared to Revlon, Jordana, NYC, Clinique, etc.). At $3.49 for this Wet n Wild product, it’s not steep, but for a Wet n Wild product it is pretty pricey, especially one that breaks in the tube right away.
Now, on the plus side, I love the color of Plumgenue, and it applies in a powdery matte finish. I don’t notice any scent, and it doesn’t feel drying on me, and it doesn’t apply patchy. I do, however, wear lip balm almost constantly, so my lips are generally pretty well hydrated. If I had dry flaky lips, though, I bet this formula would look really bad.
Staying power seems OK. It’s not going to last while eating a big hamburger, but it’ll last a morning through sipping a cup of coffee or eating a cup of yogurt.
While there are a fair amount of cons with this product, I still really like the color and the look and the feel. I do wish Wet n Wild would have waited a bit and gotten some of the bugs fixed, or I wish they’d charge a lower price for it. I think it should be no more than $1.99 tops for how it is now.

Update: Glutton for lipsticks that I am, I did go back and buy more in other colors: Pinky Candy (a medium pink), DJ Doll (peachy-orange), Timeless Chick (rosy-nude-brown) and Fashion Darling (a pinky-rose-brown-nude). I love the look and the color of all of these and that they don’t feel heavy and give a bit more natural look. They all are on the dry side, which I don’t mind. Disappointingly, all the crayons in the others I bought break way down in the tube and you have to be careful when opening or you risk product flying all over.
