I was looking for a warm red lipstick for my skin tone. I fell in love with the color as it complimented my skin tone so well, but the shape of the lipstick was made……differently. I couldn’t deal! There were instructions on how to apply the lipstick: It was reccomended that you sit in front of a mirror with a lip brush and your elbow on the table….and then you are supposed to line your lips with the lip brush and fill in. Whatever it was (going off by memory), I wasnt down, and i felt it was hard to apply the lipstick itself without going past my lips (LOL clown lips). I dont know…I was not coordinated for this. I had to return this product and I dont reccomend this, unless you are down for a challenge. Love the shade range of this line though!! If they change the shape, they will have my money, but until then, I’m saving.

This is the only Besame lipstick that pulls true red on me! Or close to it – even this pulls very, very slightly pink, but I have strong yellow undertones and need a very warm lipstick that doesn’t cross over into orange to get a true red. It’s not easy to find…I warm this up with a bit of Besame Chocolate Kiss, which is fabulous on its own also, for the perfect bright red. This is the best lipstick formula I own (with Lipstick Queen a close second) for being matte enough without too much drying, and great staying power.

Let me say first that my skin tone is not easy to classify. I’m kind of pale olive with barely-greenish veins, but there is a lot of pink undertone in my skin, too. I don’t think I’m neutral, just mixed. Clothing wise, I’m best with cooler shades, but that is not always the case with makeup. I never know if something is going to work until I try it.
So it was with this in mind that I purchased Red Hot Red: It might work, or I might end up making someone else happy by giving it to them.
What happened with Red Hot Red is this: with some outfits, it looks merely OK. With others, surpasses even my beloved Besame Red Velvet and Merlot. For some reason, it works especially well with a cooler toned deep crimson dress or shirt. It’s good for day or night, and it works whether you’re dressed to the nines or hanging out in a t shirt and stretchy pants.
Like all Besame lipsticks, the quality is fabulous, Long wear, moisturizing, great pigmentation, light vanilla scent, feels great and that wonderful gold bullet tube with the red chrysanthemums. Old-time lipstick with a better formulation and no waxiness. Besame continues to surprise and delight with their reds. I’ve tried most of them now, and because of them, I’m rethinking makeup. All the assumptions I used to make are out the window. I’m going to order a backup tube of this one.

I was a bit hesitant to spend $22 on a single lipstick (with shipping, it’s about $25), but I haven’t looked back. (In fact, I also bought Red Velvet and American Beauty.)
I’m NC20/25 and I went with this colour because it’s not overly warm or overly cool, but it definitely leans warm. Because I wear red every day and I’m constantly phobic about my teeth looking yellow, I wanted a less-orange colour that wouldn’t do that and I LOVE this one. They have a satin finish and they’re *really* pigmented. I saw a few complaints about the sizes of the tubes, which was also something that almost stopped me from ordering, but I’ve been using a single tube of this lipstick almost every day for a year, and it’s only about a cm shorter than my newer tube of American Beauty, so I can’t complain — it IS a good value.
I absolutely love the tubes; I don’t think I’ve ever seen a prettier lipstick case! The only thing about these that is a perpetual con to me is the strange, almost trapezoidal shape of the tips. I know it’s supposed to be for ease of outlining your lips or something like that, but that’s absolutely the most gimmicky part. If anything, it’s more difficult. Still, I really like these lipsticks and I’ll absolutely be buying more colours.

The color is a bright, happy, clean red. No noir drama here. Still sexy. I love it with a slight tan and clean, dewy skin. The formula is AMAZING – this is where I was surprised. I knew it would have gorgeous retro packaging and Besame lipsticks come in truly beautiful shades, but this just a great, great formula, top 5 in my personal experience of lipstick formulas for sure. (I’ve tried a lot of lipsticks.)
Opaque, creamy-matte, yet non-drying. Wears for a solid few hours, and wears well. Doesn’t transfer easily while still being extremely comfortable on the lips. The bullet shape took a little getting used to, but combined with the smaller size, it makes application easy as pie. My favorite aspect is the velvety finish – it looks almost soft-focus, yet still clean and crisp.
If I were the type to wear red lips every day, this would be the one, and you better believe I’d buy all the other Besame reds. Glad to have it in my collection. And happy to support this great brand!

Wow, what a great retro red! It’s not noir, but rather a fun, friendly 1950’s red with all the sunny sexiness of Marilyn’s smile. The cool wedge shape of a brand new tube wears down fast, but this lipstick’s thick, not-quite-matte consistency still makes a good crisp line that doesn’t bleed. Ever.
This red garners compliments aplenty, and lasts until lunch. I usually have to reapply after lunch, but on busy days when I miss my midday meal, my morning application lasts until the end of the work day.
I will definitely repurchase.

Red Hot Red is a perfect neutral red on PPP me, with very low pigmented lips. I tried a number of red shades in the store, and this one was the most flattering. There was another more blue based red that was beautiful, but too vivid for me to wear on a regular basis (and at this age).
The consistency is perfect, creamy, soft satin finish, does not bleed, stays on and does not dry out my lips. Lovely vanilla scent. I bought this a couple of years ago and thought I lost it, got a crop of other red lipsticks, some pretty good, some not so much. When I recently found this again, it is in a different league, for reds. The small size does not bother me, it doesn’t need to reapplied often. I have rarely finished lipsticks, if I do finish this one (does not wear red often), I will be happy to repurchase.

How can there be only one review for this lovely lipstick? This is a warm, beautiful red that looks perfect on a redhead like myself. The red is a tomato-y sort with enough brown to avoid the dreaded fuchsia I am always trying to steer clear of. This red is lovely and suitable for both night and day wear. It wears evenly. The Besame formula is a little drying, but that can be avoided by moisturizing prior to the first application. It wears off evenly and lasts a decent amount of time.
I know a lot of people don’t like the tiny classic packing of Besame’s original lipsticks. I see the other reviewer, though, enjoys them for what they are. I too love the diminutive, historically-accurate packaging, and find the shape of the lipstick itself to lend itself well to application.

I can’t believe no one has reviewed this shade, which leans toward tomato and is neither overtly warm nor cool. Red Hot Red is not a true red (see Besame Red for a that), and of all the Besame red-reds, this color most suits my fair, cool-neutral skin tone and medium-rose pigmented lips. It has enough warmth so it does not turn fuchsia, and it is very similar in color to Julie Hewett Rouge Noir, though a more comfortable texture.
Unlike Julie Hewett Noir lipsticks (which I also love), Besame lipsticks fade evenly, instead of from the center, and they do not get crumbly around the edges. When it comes time to reapply, you don’t have to remove all traces of lipstick and start over. Just blot well and put down a fresh layer.
I have read many MUA reviews that complain about the classic Enchanting packaging, saying the lipstick does not fully retract into the tube. This is true, but I do not see it as a negative. These lipsticks are highly pigmented, so a little goes a long way, and they were designed to be replicas of product found in the 1940s. I LOVE the diminutive, historically-accurate packaging, and the chisel edge makes it so easy to line and fill in my lips. I’m just careful when I put the cap back on; it’s no big deal, and it’s so worth it to feel like I am carrying around a bit of history.
