After anxiously waiting for my online order to arrive, I was disappointed in this lipstick.
On the positive side, the packaging is lovely on my counter (although a bit cheap feeling). I actually like the shape of the bullet quite a bit. When applied per the instructions, I am able to get a crisp line and the staying power is fairly good. It feels okay on the lips, not overly drying. I love the idea of vintage lipsticks.
What I am most disappointed in, is the color. I feel this is easily duped. It is a medium red with a PINK undertone. Once applied, I feel it looks very flat, and needs to be layered with another color to give it some dimension.
I considered returning this, however, after paying return shipping and a possible restocking fee, I have decided to keep it. I doubt I will order from Besame in the future, since I don’t live in California (where the store is located) and have to rely on the color descriptions to make a selection.
I wish Besame sold sample sizes, so customers could try out several colors before investing $22 in a full size.

I really love this lipstick and this colour! It’s a very blue-based red that fades to a pink. When first applied it’s a very glamorous red with a satin finish. The tube takes a little bit of getting used to but overall is easy to control. The packaging itself is a beautiful gold bullet tube. It’s quite dainty and petite:)
One day I wore it and had an emergency and didn’t eat much – drank lots of coffee and water. It lasted alll day with no touch ups! On a normal day when you eat (haha) you do have to reapply after eating, however it fades very elegantly (no outer room/ no crazy smearing).
Overall I love it and I would totally try more colours in the future.

What’s not to like about this? It’s a pow, in-your-face kind of retro red in a cute little gold case. This definitely has blue undertones. So, if you need a red that veers in that direction, this will work. Like many of my favorite matte reds (Russian Red, for instance) it can be drying. But I solve that by putting a teensy bit of Almay’s Apple A Day liquid lip balm over it. I think it slides around a bit too much if you put on the balm first. I have the Besame Dusty Rose as well and like that one too.

This color is truly THE classic red. While I realize some people take issue with the somewhat smaller than standard size of the tube, it is in no way miniature, and the color is so rich and long lasting for me, it will outlive my other reds for miles.
The only thing that prevents me from rating it a 5 is it is slightly drier than i’d prefer, but not so dry as to be unattractive even on less than perfect lips.
I don’t ever pay $20+ for lipsticks. Be glamorous sometimes, ladies! This is well worth the splurge.

Today I received my Besame lipstick which I have been wanting for a really long time. I chose the Besame Red shade, after reading carefully the shade descriptions in What Katie Did’s website.
The package is good. It comes in a red box with golden flower ornamental designs. Inside, it is the lipstick in a burgundy velvet pouch, tied in golden straps with the Besame logo. Very elegant and classy.
And then inside, i found my lipstick. My first feeling was disappointment because the size of the lipstick tube is not at all what i was expecting it to be. It is VERY small, almost like a Chapstick lip balm tube. The tube is golden with red ornamental flower designs. Then, came my second disappointment. The shape of the lipstick is ..um… strange. It has two slopes, which makes it so hard to apply. I kinda had a hard time applying it because i could find a way to do so without ruining the design. After many failed attemps i kind of applied it.
The colour is a bright red, quite neutral i’d say, neither warm nor cool, as well as neither blue nor orange based eiher. It kind of reminds me of MAC’s Ruby Woo, only this one is not as dry, more like semi-matte. id say it is kinda moisturizing, but it is definitely not long lasting because the colour started to fade after an hour.
I would buy it again only because I cannot resist the vintage packaging, but for 20 pounds it really is not worth it because i have found way better lipsticks, in bigger tubes that last longer, and cost less.

I’m a new Besame Cosmetics fan, and I own 7 of the Enchanting lipsticks, but I was disappointed with Besame Red. The color looks gorgeous in the tube, a bright blue red, much like Julie Hewett Femme Noir. Unfortunately, it turned fuchsia on my medium-rose pigmented lips, even though I neutralized my lip pigment first with foundation. My DH knows I am going through an experimental phase with retro red lipsticks, and when he first saw me wearing Besame Red, he crinkled his nose and said, “Is that your shade?” He said it looked like candy. Not my best look.
I would have only removed one lippie for color, but I removed two because of how long it lasted compared to the other Enchanting Besame lipsticks. I realize to get the best mileage out of a pigmented matte, it’s best to exfoliate, prime, line, apply, blot, and reapply. However, for a matte lipstick (assuming my lips are in good condition), I should not need to go through all that. The color alone should suffice, and it should last at least 4 hours to make the cut for me. Besides, these lipsticks are advertised as not needing a liner because of their chisel-shaped edge.
I applied Besame Red at 8:15 am and by 9:15 the color had noticeably faded from the center. All I had done was sip coffee from a fine porcelain cup and breathe. By 10:15, the color was almost completely gone, and my lips felt parched and even looked a little wrinkled. I was really surprised by this because my experience with all the other Besames I owned was that they are semi-matte, smooth, and the color stays true for hours.
It is possible, even likely, this lipstick didn’t perform because I used foundation on my lips first, but I didn’t like the color enough on me to give it another try, and I figure the less I use it, the more product there is for a swap. Then again, maybe I’ll hang onto it and see if I can make it work because I so love the Enchanting lipstick line and its petite, authentic packaging. For a similar color with greater staying power (and I do recommend getting the matching lip liner), consider trying Julie Hewett Femme Noir.

This lipstick is not for the faint of heart. It is a bright, 1950s, Betty Draper shade of red with a matte finish. It obviously needs a lip liner, so between the matte finish and liner, it has amazing staying power.
A lot of people have noted the tiny size of the lipstick, which actually doesn’t bother me at all, as I don’t think I’ve ever finished a tube of lipstick. Besides, I have a fondness for tiny lipsticks, so this just melts my heart.
I’m really fond of this lipstick. It’s a statement look, not an every day one, but I absolutely adore it.

I love this lipstick! The shade is the perfect blue toned bright red, it goes on so easily due to is satiny texture, and lasts all night if you take the time to apply it right – primer, lipliner, blot, powder, lipstick, blot, lipstick. The bullet is small, but the colour is so highly pigmented, and lasts so long, that it easily lasts as long as a cheaper full sized lipstick. The only drawback for me is the packaging, the lid constantly comes off, making a real mess of my bag if i haven’t stored it carefully – buy a lipstick case if you’re buying this one!

This color is much too bright for me, I perfer the deeper shades of Noir and Cherry. I bought this color sight unseen during the Beseme clearance so I have bunch of BNIB of this color in my swaps.
The bullet packaging is really pretty if not small and the lids tend to come off and made a mess in my kit.

I purchased the Besame Enchanting lipstick kit in Red, and Besame Red is a creamy, rich, bright red. It’s definitely blue-based, and as it wears, it tends to lean fuschia on me (NC25 with warm undertones). The tube is really small, but the formula is very pigmented, so I’m hoping that my tube will last a long time. The texture is matte-ish, but still creamy, and doesn’t dry out my lips. It can feather a bit, so use a lipliner for best results.
