Let’s call a spade a spade, Clinique, in spite of its Pop line, in spite of its forays into youth skincare (Pep) is struggling against the frump factor. Competition from “hipper” lines (Urban Decay, NARS) and prestige ones (Tom Ford, Chantecaille) is throwing shade on a make which has produced some solid gems. Amongst a gamme of colours which seem a little sad, muted and dated (Plum Brandy, anyone?) shines Angel Red, the one lipstick I have repurchased over and over again. Seeking a wearable “blackened red”? A rich, non-Kool-aid like stain? An un-slimy tinted balm? This is all of the above, a moisturizing, luscious sheer colour that adds depth and sophistication. The best “daytime red” there is and will ever be.

I finally pulled the trigger on this lipstick and I’m so glad I did! I’ve been wanting to try out some stronger lip looks, but not OTT (I am 56 and too dark/too matte looks harsh)- this is perfection. I’ve tried Black Honey but it’s too blue-based for me- this is a bit more brick and can be very sheered out to just a hint of stain. This will be a staple for me, along with Guava Stain, Spice Pink and a few others. In general, I love the texture and wearability of Clinique lipsticks and think they’re fairly priced for the quality and nice packaging.

I love this lipstick. Ugh I can’t even express.
I got this free in one of their little prize makeup bags and fell in love.
I’m a girl who loves her red lips. In previous reviews I’ve stated that I was a no fuss lip girl. That’s changed. EVERY time I wear make up I do a red, vampy, or berry lip. Angel Red is my perfect “no big deal” red. It’s low maintenance. It’s forgiving. It’s moisturizing. It’s so effortless. It’s what I always recommend my friends (of all skin tones) as their beginner red lipstick.
If you are someone that HATES to reapply, well sorry, you’ll have to reapply this lipstick. Long lasting it is not, but it can leave a very pretty stain. If I’m not eating, drinking, or talked a whole bunch I can get a couple hours of wear. But honestly this lipstick is so easy and nice to apply that reapplication is not a biggie.

Really love this moist stay put formula. On me, this makes me look like I naturally have lips that are red. Beautiful and sheer. Very polished and soft at the same time. Love it!

I’ve got Angel Red, Apple Brandy, Vintage Wine, & Black Honey as far as deeper Clinique colors go & Angel Red is my fave red of all time! It’s perf for Fall/Winter but hot sizzling summer nights also. It is not that “scary red” (eg Wetnwild stoplight red is one that comes to mind atm), I cannot pull off any reds except the browned down type. This is not at all Fuschia on me nor Berry. I can pull off very few berries & I can’t think of many Fuschias that look good on me tbh. I don’t find this to be raspberry-Fuschia whatsoever but I am neutral yellowish toned w light brown reddish hair naturally (foiled honey blonde) w grey eyes/freckles light skinned the grey is what throws ppl coz I have all warm features except eyes!! This is a safe red, not at all garish nor wild. I’m all about nudes so Clinique makes many a safe color if u like the glam of red but are over 30 or don’t want to look like a lady of the evening this is your red. Ultra glam & classy! Mine came in a GWP w the ubiquitous green packaging but oh well that is just so typical Clinique. I’ve never owned a dud from Clinique lipsticks. They come up w the most beautiful classy colors.

After reading the reviews, I was excited to buy this. I returned it the same day. It has an orange undertone which did not look good with my fair complexion. I’m glad so many women like this color, but it was a no go for me.

This lipstick came in a Clinique makeup set from Macys, along with other amazing products. From the looks of the bullet, it’s a deep, black cherry color. But in reality, it’s a versatile and sheer shade of red that can be many hues depending on how many layers you apply. Personally, I put 2-3 layers to compliment my medium golden skin tone (NC35). I don’t usually wear red lipstick because I tend to look absolutely ridiculous due to having full lips. However, with this lipstick, it offers a beautiful, shiny red color without going overboard. It hides fine lines, doesn’t feather, and is surprisingly very nourishing – unlike most red lipsticks. It’s the perfect fall color that’s bold enough to be worn at parties, but subtle enough to be worn daily. It’s a lovely color and I will always continue to buy this.

I use Clinique Lipstick in “After Party.” This is the only lipstick I use. Before I put on my this lipstick, I use Sephora Lipstain in Endless purple. When I put Clinique “After Party” on top of the matte of the Sephora lipstain, the effect looks fabulous and as bonus points, its lasts a very long time since the lip stain is matte to begin with. Wonderful color and my favorite all time lipstain/lipstick combo.

For someone who “doesn’t wear red lipstick,” I recently realized I have three red lipsticks–that’s a lot! All 3 are Clinique–Merlot (discontinued), Apple Brandy and this one, which is even better than the other two.
This is a great, sheer red that’s buildable and very versatile. You could blot it on for a stain effect or use a few coats to get more color. It is also super moisturizing and feels great going on, but has more staying power than Apple Brandy (which is a butter shine).
I got this in a GWP and I’m so glad because I would never have chosen it, but I’ve been wearing it nonstop as a go-to lipstick this winter. It works in all kinds of situations, from going out to more casual settings, without feeling like you’re (dramatic pause) WEARING RED LIPSTICK or have to be totally decked out like Dita Von Teese to pull it off.
If you are scared of red lipstick, I highly recommend trying this one! For reference, I’m fair skinned with golden yellow tones, which makes it hard to find good reds.

Gorgeous sheer blackened red. Way better on me than Black Honey because it’s truly RED. LOVE it.
