I grabbed this at Marshalls recently for like $4.99, and I’m glad I did! This is a pretty nude rose brown, that has a slight mauve undertone to it. Its a very comfortable formula, and has great wear time…I never was big into any LQ products when they were super in, this is only my 2nd LQ purchase, but I would pick up a few more in flattering shades.

I have to really love a l/s to repurchase so not sure if I would repurchase this, though the color is super-becoming on me. My coloring is pale neutral, leaning slightly yellow and my hair is dyed a reddish light copper. This color looks peachy beige on me. I tend to like slightly darker shades in cold weather, so this is primarily a warm weather color for me. I am currently into a matte phase. This formula is just matte enough for me and not drying at all. It is very pigmented and rich, so one swipe top and bottom lip is more than enough. Anymore would look cakey. I pair it with By Terry liner in Perfect Nude which is very similar in color. Pawn looks great with Chanel Rose Ecrin blush.

This is a deep warm nude shade, perfect for my yellow undertones. It goes on with a single swipe nicely, with a creamy texture that has a good matte finish without being too dry. There is a subtle vanilla scent like all the other Lipstick Queen lipsticks I’ve tried, which I like since it’s not overpowering. The color lasts a few hours and leaves a slight stain to the lip. I typically re-apply after lunch. It’s kept my lips in good condition and lasts longer than the Saints line. Price wise, I’m on the fence as to whether these are worth it – I normally buy drugstore brands. I used coupons to purchase the Lipstick Queen lipsticks I have. This is one I would purchase again.

This is part of a special collection with a Chess theme. There are six pieces – three white and three black. The cases themselves aren’t fancy. They could have been more creative with the packaging, but it’s functional and I have no complaints. Each chess piece has a different color: Queen (ruby red); King (berry); Bishop (mauve); Knight (mocha); Rook, which is described as a brick red but it looks a little more plum red in real life; and the color I purchased, Deep Nude Pawn.
It’s a beautiful soft pink-brown nude that doesn’t lean too far toward orange. This is neither a Saint nor a Sinner. It seems to be a new formula for Lipstick Queen. This Chess Collection has a finish kind of like Charlotte Tilbury’s Matte Revolutions but they didn’t quite capture her recipe. These are matte and velvety like hers, however; this Chess lipstick feels more powdery on the lips and does not have the signature vanilla scent of a Matte Revolution.
The first time I applied Pawn it was a bit smeary, which could have been due to the heat from the delivery truck. I like to use Tilbury’s Lip Cheat pencil in Pillow Talk with it. The liner is a very good match for Pawn and gives me a more polished look. (However Pawn is lighter and a bit warmer than Tilbury’s Pillow Talk lipstick, so it’s not an exact dupe of that shade.) If you’re not fond of mattes, Lipstick Queen’s Saint Nude reminds me of Pawn but with a glossier finish.
Some of the bloggers reported that the Chess formula was moisturizing. However, it does not feel moisturizing to me; it contains a lot of silica. I consider Lipstick Queen’s Saints or their mood lipsticks such as Frog Prince to be more balmy.
For me the wear is about average – not bad but I have to reapply during the day. I’m happy with this color but will not rush to collect all six shades. Although the formula is nice, I actually prefer Lipstick Queen’s Saints and Sinners and the jazz collection.
The price is $24, which I consider mid-range, not overpriced.
