This is a lovely, muted sheer warm-ish red that can move easily from day into night. It replaces, in my stash, the now discontinued Angel Red (Clinique–argggghhhhh, curse you, Clinique!) It is slightly waxy and smells half like crayons and half like Ouzo, but I’m willing to see past that.

EDITED: On wearing this colour more, I realised that it isn’t the most flattering. Not sure what it is, perhaps the berry tones. I think I might like it more if the pigment was more intense. It appears somewhat uneven or “faded” as it is applied, maybe that was done deliberately for a casual look, but with this shade I would prefer an intense, opaque coverage. Also the texture, while not extremely drying, is more drying than I would like (my lips dry out very easily regardless of how I prep them). ***** I was tempted to buy this because years ago I had a sheer lipstick from BB called Ruby, which I liked but it smelled bad so I didn’t buy BB lipsticks for a while. I saw this shade in the “crushed lip colour” range and it looked the same as my old one, but this lipstick has no discernible fragrance to it – yay. My daytime do-to lipstick is Lipstick Queen’s Saint Natural, and I love it but wanted something a bit more impactful (on me the Saint Natural is almost a mlbb shade). This one is good. Ruby is a muted red, not bright, wearable and work appropriate. It’s a little darker than Saint Natural and more obviously red. It’s not a brick red; rather it seems to me like a slightly berry red but with warm rather than cool undertone. It suits my complexion which is yellow-based but with some redness in the face. This lipstick does not pick up the redness like some cool toned reds and pinks do. It makes my eyes look greener. The formula is comfortable; not quite as comfortable as the Saint Natural but also not drying. BB also has a shade “cranberry” that looked like it would suit me, but it seemed too similar to the Saint Natural.
