This is a traditional cream lipstick in a tube as opposed to the liquid lipsticks Kylie is known for. In general, I fare better with this sort of lipstick. I have a drawer of liquid lipsticks from various brands that I have given up on because I couldn’t get past the crusty look or drying feel. However, I will give Kylie Cosmetics credit for coming up with the Velvet Liquid Lipsticks. I own one of those in Low Key that I find extremely comfortable to wear, and the color (a pale coral nude) is flattering on my skin tone. (I wear NC20 in MAC.) But back to Crush.
Crush is a gorgeous mid-tone strawberry pink with a hint of coral. I have MAC Costa Chic which is lighter, brighter, and peachier with a frost finish. Crush has no shimmer at all. It’s one of those easy-to-wear, office-appropriate shades.
It smells delicious. It reminds me of strawberry vanilla cupcakes, or something equally sweet. Pigmentation is generous. On application it glides easily across the lips. Because this is a tube lipstick and not a liquid, it will transfer to cups and straws, but certainly no worse than most of my other lipsticks which are not kiss-proof, either. I get opaque coverage and it does not feel heavy on the lips. I like the formula of Creme Lipstick enough that I’m planning to try other colors.
As Crush gradually wears off, it leaves behind a bit of a stain on my lips but I don’t mind that because it adds to the staying power. I do not find staining to be annoying unless I’m swatching lots of different colors of lipstick in a row and need to see the true color of each one. If I am wearing the same color all day long, it can save me from having to re-apply as frequently. (Olive oil will remove the lingering lipstick stain.)
When the bullet is brand new, it has a lovely keen point on the tip that makes it easy to get a nice, clean line without using a lip liner. Over time, with lots of use, this will wear down, but it is nice while it lasts.
I bought Crush at ULTA, and the case I have is matte black plastic with a matching cap. The logo is in silver along the base. It’s not my favorite lipstick packaging but it’s certainly fine. When I subsequently ordered other shades directly from Kylie’s site, Truffle, Puppy Love, and Infatuation, they came in more attractive silver tubes. (Truffle is brown with a touch of mauve. Puppy Love is a beautiful light warm pink, and Infatuation is a cooler pale baby pink.)
Kylie Cosmetics is now available at ULTA, where I purchased Crush for $17 and tax. ULTA stores do not carry the full line. When I went to the Kylie Cosmetics web site, there were bronzers, blushes, eyeliners, and lip colors that were not at my ULTA.
