This is a gorgeous, pigmented, creamy, blue based red. I fell in love with Revlon’s Love Is On but I love this lipstick even more. The color is absolutely beautiful and I like the finish, too. I’m not a huge fan of matte lipsticks but this one really is a creamy matte. You can also use this to get a pretty pink popsicle stained lip, too. Pat on a little, rub it in with your finger, and add some gloss or lip balm. Best $5 I’ve spent! I’m NC30-40 with pigmented lips for reference. My pigmented lips can alter the color of many lip products but this lipstick is so rich and pigmented that there is no problem with that.

When first applied, this immediately makes me think of pin-up girl and old-time Hollywood starlet lipsticks. Think Marilyn Monroe.. Liz Taylor.. Rita Hayworth. They would totally rock this shade!! That said, it is very much wearable for everyday average gals, no need to be a pinup girl!! 😉 Kidding aside, this is a very nice red. I would say on me, this is a true red, that leans a little tad warm, but all in all a fairly neutral red. I believe this is part of the ‘matte’ lipstick line, but it is not drying for me like many mattes. Does not settle into my lip lines like many matte or red shades. And a classic red.
One thing I noticed (for me) is that this can oddly be a little sheer, and this also it bleeds for me, so a red lip liner pencil might be needed. But that is true for me of most red lipsticks, tending to bleed, and slip outside the natural lip line. So I think that is just kind of the nature of the beast with red lipsticks for me. This also smears easily for me when eating, so I now blot my lips before eating when I wear this and just reapply. I almost knocked this down a little in the rating, but again, those aspects seem to be across the board for me with red lipsticks.
I get around 3 to 4 hours of wear out of this, and then a nice subtle flattering red stain peeks through. All in all, I would still repurchase. I feel this is on par with lipsticks with much larger price points. If you are leery of reds but would like to try one, this might be a nice one to try. It does apply easily and smoothly and for me I do not get ‘clown lips’ from this. Typical Maybelline scent. Secure cap, no issues with tube/packaging.

One of my favorite red lipsticks, without a doubt! With rich pigmentation, creamy texture and matte finish, Maybelline’s ‘Rich Ruby’ is beyond perfection! Although it feels really soft and butter-like on the lips, its finish is absolutely matte and makes your lips look moisturized and enriched with colour! I also really loved the package; the cap closes tightly, which is a pro since I always carry that lipstick in my bag!

I LOVE THIS LIPSTICK AND ITS SHADE! It’s called Daring Ruby in Eastern Europe. I got many compliments on it. I am a bit shy, but I’ll wear it more often.
It is creamy, indeed, but just a bit, so it wouldn’t feel drying. It looks matte, though. Not liquid lipstick matte, but the matte that would make one think of Old Hollywood. That new super dry look is rather high fashion-y.
It lasts very long if you just drink or eat a tiny bit, but it fades a lot if you eat greasy food (yeah, on the inside).
It doesn’t get drying in time, just matte-r.
It stains.
Has a lovely smell, like all Maybelline lipsticks.

I wanted a brighter ( but not too bright) red matte lipstick but did not want to pay dept. store prices since I don’t wear red that often. When I have worn reds, they tended more toward darker brick or burgundy type of reds. After a lot of internet research, I decided to try Rich Ruby- I was familiar with the line having already purchased Divine Wine which is also very nice! These lipsticks are very pigmented and are well priced I paid less than $6/ tube at my local Target.
As the name suggests, this is a creamier matte than most that I have tried. In fact, I am not that much of a matte fan and have always used lip balm underneath to alleviate some of the dryness. This one has a nice texture. I am an MAC NC 43/Bobbi Brown Golden/ Nars Tinted Moisturizer Malaga for reference-med dark. On me this lipstick reads like true red. Previous reviewers have compared it to Russian Red and it is a good dupe for that. I also think it is very similar to Nars Semi- Matte in Red Lizard and Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella. Both of those are drier that Rich Ruby and far more expensive. I haven’t found a liner for it yet. Per the MAC SA, their lip liner in Brick pairs well with Russian Red, so I assume it would work with this lipstick as well.
Overall, I am very pleased with this lipstick and may try other colors in this Creamy Matte line.

A gorgeous cool tone red. I think I might go back for another of these. I cannot compare this to the (great and powerful OZ) MAC because for me a good color is a good color and I have been pleased with all the colors I have bought in this formula from Maybelline. PS these are 4.97 at Walmart….

This is the closest dupe to MAC Russian Red that I have found in the drugstore!
Red lipstick is my vice, and I can safely assume I own at least twenty reds by now (as a student, I’m horrified by my lack of willpower). Of all the reds that I own, Russian Red is my favorite, and I’ve worn it down almost completely.
I bought Rich Ruby today, wary that Siren in Scarlet might be a bit too tomato for my tastes. Trying it on my lips (which depending on the day, may or may not be pigmented), I was immediately reminded of Russian Red, and pulled out both that and Revlon’s Matte Balm in Standout to make some comparisons.
Color-wise, Rich Ruby and Standout are the same color — Standout is the tiniest bit more blue-toned, but it’s too minute of a detail to really see. Rich Ruby is just a little more blue than Russian Red, which is a true red, therefore might seem brighter. In reality, I assure you that unless you were REALLY scrutinizing it, you wouldn’t be able to tell a difference.
In terms of formula, Rich Ruby trumps Standout. Rich Ruby has a finish closer to Russian Red, which is a semi-matte, and stays creamy whereas the MAC version dries down to where it can be drying on some. I find Standout is too slippery and a little glossier than I would like. I believe Maybelline also provides you with the most product at 0.15oz.
If I manage to use up more of these super-similar colors, this will definitely be repurchased. In the meantime, I love the Color Sensational Creamy Mattes and am already planning to purchase more colors, as this is my favorite lipstick formula ever.
Now go on out there and rock some budget-friendly red!
