The butter lip sticks have be the most comfortable lipsticks I own. I have three. Licorace applies a little patchy for me but if I’m careful and not rushed I can make it look good

I adore this lipstick. I tend to like bold colors — mostly brick reds — and a lot of pinky-brown nudes, but I was in the mood for a raisin or plum shade, and this one caught my eye at Target. It looked promising in the store (thanks to someone opening one already, I got to sneak a peek), so one of the unmolested ones came home with me.
Now I happen to like the NYX lipsticks, balms and glosses I already have. I’m crazy about the Butter Balm line, but this one shade could be competing with everything else in my NYX collection and many others beyond the brand.
It’s a very pretty burgundy shade, for starters. Just a swipe and it’s a good wash of color, but not too overpowering. A couple more swipes, and it is close to vampy, but kind of a grownup vampy — the kind you can wear to work without getting called a goth, let’s say.
The formula is nice, creamy, but not so creamy that it feels slick or sloppy, which makes me happy, since I hate a greasy feeling lipstick when it’s in a strong or vibrant color.
I happen to like blotting Licorice just a touch with a tissue to give it more of a matte look — without it, it’s pretty with a nice satiny sheen, and there almost seems to be a hint of blue in some lights — just the tiniest hint, mind you.
Staying power is okay. It didn’t survive a sandwich, but I didn’t mind reapplying.
I happen to like that this is the kind of shade that, while looking extreme in the tube, it can look good on a variety of skin tones, and one light swipe, topped with a bit of balm and it’s a lovely soft berry, or more and it’s practically luscious.
There’s no super-strong scent. I’d say it smells a touch sweet, but it’s not anything heavy or super fake or overbearing. And it feels as nice on the lips as it looks, in my opinion.
