I want to love this lipstick, because the color is amazing!
Unfortunately, there are several dealbreakers here. First, the tube smells strongly of fruit punch, which is not at all pleasant, though the smell doesn’t stick around. Second, and most importantly, the formula makes my lips dry and flaky. Third, this is one of those moisture-rich formula marketed lipsticks that has a smooth paste texture that I covet in hair pomade, but tends to dance around my lips. Fourth, the lid to this lipstick doesn’t stay on very well.
You should totally get a lipstick in this color, but it shouldn’t be this lipstick.

I just bought this lipstick on clearance at a local discount beauty supply. I was drawn to it because it’s a deep red, which is what I was looking for. I have reds which are very bright but I wanted something more sophisticated. I’ve applied it once and it went on super smooth; I felt like I was applying butter to my lips. It’s super silky, creamy, and very pigmented and rich. The shade is a deep red; I think it’s on the cooler side, perhaps almost verging on berry territory, but it is slightly muted as well, maybe with a touch of brown. I’m not a fan of brown-reds but I like this color, it doesn’t look at all brown. It’s a gorgeous elegant red with a moisturizing sheen to it, but not overly glossy which I like. There is a smell which some have identified as “grape” and I concur, but only while applying the product. Afterwards it disappears. Since this lipstick is so slippery it is very easy to smudge it and stain outside your lips, so I would suggest any of the tips for applying lip product: use a lip brush, a lipliner, and use the apply/blot/reapply method to keep too much product from glopping on your lips. This will also prevent it from getting on your teeth, so make sure you don’t get it on the inside of your lips. I like the packaging, it’s heavy and sturdy and the twist-up bullet casing seems to be made of a shiny gunmetal material. It’s very chic and pretty. All in all, I like this lipstick a lot and I will definitely consider buying others in this line. I would probably buy them on sale or clearance though, since the normal price tag (around $8 I believe) is a bit steep for me.

I ordered a Black Label (Garnet was 20% off = $5.99) & 2 round lipsticks (Raisin & Ulysses $4 each) from NYX’s site and the order arrived in about 5 days. I like all 3 lipsticks but I’m especially impressed with the Black Label formula and I plan on buying more shades. Garnet is very pretty, it’s not too bright or garish on me at all, and the formula is soooo creamy and long-lasting. It applies like a dream (I love the coverage) and there’s no heavy scent. (The round lipsticks have an odd chemical scent that sorta lingers but won’t keep me from wearing them. I also have Tea, Topaz, Milan, Chaos, & Electra). I do sometimes apply my lipshades over a primer such as Mary Kay Outliner or DuWop Reverse Lipliner for longer wear. I love the Black Label formula! EDIT…been wearing the BL for a few days and it is the best lipstick I have ever used!!! Love everything about it (creamy, long-wearing & wears off evenly, has a lite grape-ish scent which goes away, non-drying, and the price is great!
[EDIT 2-22-2012; I ordered Diva (due to MUA ratings) & Walnut from Cherry Culture, got my order 2 weeks later (too long but NYX was always sold out of Diva). Anyway there is a difference in the formula, I guess it varies from shade to shade b/c the Diva and Walnut do not apply as creamy or opaque as the Garnet. What a disappointment, but just my opinion.]

This is my first time buying a red lipstick, and I’m glad I chose this colour despite the few online reviews. It’s not a very bright, in-your-face red, but a slightly darker, bluish red. Very sophisticated looking. The lipstick is creamy and pigmented, and leaves a nice taste on the lips. My only gripe is that it’s probably a tad too shiny for my liking (i’ll blot my lips with tissue to remove some of the shine), but then again, this wasn’t meant as a matte lipstick to begin with. It’s a great product nonetheless and works great on Asians. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is trying red lipstick for her first time. 🙂

I do love the Black Label texture; it’s soft and silky and just melts into the lips, although the softness does make it a little bit prone to bleeding. This colour is ever so slightly too blue a red on me; to wear that kind of colour I need a hyper-dense pigment formula like Julie Hewett or Besame (and yes, this is similar to Besame Red Velvet, just a tad cooler). If you’re not as freakishly orange as I am you’ll probably look great in this.

This lipstick comes in the square black tube and it is a “real” lipstick. Not a stick gloss, a lip balm in a tube, or anything like that. This goes on fully opaque with some sheen, but no shimmer or frost. What this lipstick is to me is the perfect daytime red. It is not at all vivid, and it a medium-to-dark shade that does not look bright or garish. Those lemming a red lipstick and who are afraid of their lips preceding them into a room might try this. The red is muted and fairly neutral. I am an NW20. Very elegant and wearable. It has a slight soapy taste on my lips, but nothing horrible. This is what I wanted Besame Red velvet to be. NW20.

On my dark pink pigmented lips, this is a neutral medium red creme that’s just gorgeous, full-strength or worn as a stain topped by gloss. Another must-have for everyone! Black Label Lipsticks have full-on color, but are the first lipsticks I’ve used that don’t dry out my lips at all. There’s a slight grape scent as I apply, but no taste or scent on the lips. The packaging is a very cute black sparkly rounded-off square tube, black lace patterned and with a “sample” of the color encased in clear plastic at the base. US$7 @ nyxcosmetics.com
