   The City Color Be Matte lipsticks don’t get a lot of fanfare but for me they are probably the best drugstore matte lipsticks around – on par with Wet n Wild Megalast but with a drier, more matte finish which I prefer. Because they’re so dry, your lips need to be well exfoliated before use. They are super-pigmented and give opaque coverage with one application.

   The range of colors is huge- I think they have 36 in total, so there’s something for everyone. In terms of texture, they are very dry and not the easiest to apply but this is probably why the wear time is incredible. They last practically all day on my lips.

   My favorites in the line are:

   Cappuccino – This one is always sold out and with good reason. It is a gorgeous warm nude with red and orange undertones and it’s the truest nude lipstick I own because it doesn’t lean pink,brown or peach on me. It replicates my natural lip color perfectly.

   Brick – This color I find very unique, it’s a muted pinkish red with warm undertones. This is a great everyday red shade for me. If you have yellow undertones you need this one – it’s stunning.

   Kelly – This is another fairly unique color in the line. It’s a muted berry-pink with warm undertones.

   Lana – This is a really beautiful red that’s deeper but nowhere near vampy. It has a bit of a maroon undertone and is the perfect, elegant evening red. A universally flattering shade.

   Brianda – This is a great color for fall. It’s a deep burgundy red with brown undertones rather than the plummy undertones you tend to find in colors like this.

   Honestly I can’t recommend these lipsticks enough. On the lips, they look as good or better than my higher end matte lipsticks. You’d never guess they were so inexpensive.

   I have this in the color Latte. I like the color, but it has a perfume scent to it and it’s too strong smelling for me. It is pretty dry, but I always wear lip balm under lipstick. I wouldn’t try any other colors because of how bad this one smells.

   I got this in the shade Jenny (M19) which is a bright cool toned red.

   – Packaging: OK, not fancy or anything but at least the cap closes tight instead of slipping off like some other drugstore lipsticks)
   – Scent: Chemical & overpowering (like colored pencils)
   – Performance: Good color payoff, long lasting, very drying

   They do have a great range of colors, but it’s a shame there’s no true bright red (this one’s more pink than red). It’s too drying for me, so I won’t repurchase.

   First off, you MUST wear a lipbalm or lip primer underneath these. Don’t even think about applying without! These lipsticks have the driest formula on application that I’ve run across and I LOVE matte lippies. I used MAC Prep+Prime Lip underneath, which helped a lot. You may also want a bit of gloss on top. The bullet becomes softer the more you use it but at first, be aware of the draggy application.
   Although this product is thick when applied, it seems to change somehow and feels lightweight on the lips. It’s so lightweight that I checked the mirror wondering if I still had any color on my lips. The wear is outstanding. Melon lasted all day without feathering and with only slight fading. I ate a sandwich for lunch and drank water and coffee throughout the day. The scent is not offensive but definitely noticeable. I can’t describe it well, but it’s different from other lipstick scents and I would caution those with sensitivities to have a little whiff before purchasing. So far, I’m happy with my purchase!
