My new favourite lipstick, I love nude lipsticks and wear Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk everyday, and this is my new HG lipstick. The shade looks great against my cool toned Irish skin and compliments any makeup look , day or night. Very pigmented in one swipe and stays on for a long time. The packaging is so nice, love how simple and classy it is and the magnetic lid is amazing.

This lipstick reminded me why I generally steer clear of Nars lippies.
Much like the acclaimed Dolce Vita shade years ago, Barbara pulls darker on me than expected, a lot warmer and very muddy. On top of that, although not labeled as a matte, this stuff has a very matte finish despite its creamy feel and therefore accentuates lines.
If you like your “nudes” a bit cool, a bit pink toned and not very dark, this is the wrong choice for you.

Executive summary: this color is beautiful, this formula is the pits.
This color is beautiful: I am a very fair woman and this is basically the color of my lips when I’m having a very pale day. It’s not my lips but better, it’s just my lip color in lipstick format. So basically it is the end all be all nude lip for me. It’s a sandy pink with a dash of yellow, and it’s transparent enough that a lip liner can really be fun to play with here. Today I wore it with MAC’s Enoki and I am having a lovely trippy time remembering a mauve combo I wore at Estée Lauder in the early aughts. It’s so gorgeous.
This formula is the pits: I am completely in the minority here, I know, but this is a wretched formula. The colors are so gorgeous though that I finally caved on Barbara (and might do with Shirley, too). It can give me “fadey” lip, and kind of a dry crusty looking lip if I don’t baby sit it and if I go sans liner, it isn’t lasting for longer than an hour. It feels gorgeous going on, but then it’s done. But again I feel like I am so in the minority on this opinion that if you’re on the fence, go try it. This color is so so fetching.

I don’t know why I waited so long to purchase Barbara. She is lovely. If you are a cooler-toned girl like myself (I am NC20), this might be worth checking out. Such a flattering, natural shade. Great for ‘no makeup makeup’ days. Applies smoothly and evenly, feels comfortable, not drying at all and does not settle into my aging 46 year old lip lines, like some of the Nars lipsticks do. My only trivial minor complaint is that this wears off way too fast. Within an hour it is barely there, and within 2 hours, it has all but completely vanished, and that is not talking nor eating nor drinking anything. So, wear time with this is pretty abysmal for me. If this wore even close to 3 hours for me, I would have happily bumped the rating up from 4 to 5 stars/lippies. But because this fades way too fast, I took off a lippie. I realize this is a softer and a lighter shade of sorts, but there are shades in this family that last much longer. But that is my only minor complaint. I would only wear this to places I can easily reapply as necessary. So this is not a very practical everyday lipstick in that regard. The shade though is very practical and everyday.
Speaking of the shade itself, I do think the shade is unique enough (looks basic in online pics, but on my lips, I honestly feel like this looks very unique..and I have tried many similar shades, from drugstore to high end), and the formula applies so nicely and smoothly and does not turn funny colors nor does this get gummy or funky feeling. I detect no scent with this. So all of those aspects make this a very possible repurchase for me. I just wish I tried this (years ago now?!) when I first head about this. It is lovely. A great lipstick for older gals like myself, or anyone who likes a more natural shade. Just be prepared that you might need to reapply a little more often than you might like. But I would repurchase and would recommend.

Barbara is one of the nude shades in the line of new Audacious lipsticks just introduced by Nars (there are 40 colors in all – although some of them are exclusive to certain stores – and they have all been given girls’ names). The company describes it as tan rose; when I first applied it, I thought it was more tan than rose but a few hours later, a muted rose tone is dominant. It applies very creamy but is actually a matte texture. It’s very long-lasting and didn’t come off during my coffee break. Unlike other matte and long-lasting lipsticks I’ve tried, it’s not drying. Then again, it is a hot and humid day – I’ll report back in mid-January!
