I know it’s been a while since anyone commented on this shade because it’s been discontinued. I’m just looking for something similar that’s not too glittery or has just the right blue base. I’m in my 40s and while matte lipstick was great on me back in the day, it’s not so much now. It seems to age me so quickly. Not only that, I still can’t find “the one” that’s just right. I even FB Laura Mercier and btw they were less than helpful… if anyone has any suggestions for similar lipsticks (no glosses if possible) please post even though it’s years later. I’m kinda sorta desperate.

Love this color, have been using it for years. I find it to be very natural looking. It adds just enough polish for work without being too “overdone”.

Found this lovely blue based mauve that is not to dark and not to light and not too berry! It stays on and looks great with blue eyes. Some mauves can make you look deathly but not this one. am buying another one to keep on hand.

Amethyst is one of my HG lip colors, oddly — though it doesn’t look as if it would be one! It’s a strange shade of mauve — it’s metallic and has pink in it — but somehow it brightens my entire complexion. I discovered it randomly a few months ago, and my tube is almost out! It’s definitely one of my most reached for lipsticks, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that LM does not discontinue it anytime soon. (For reference, NW5-10, NARS Siberia). Love this — I will buy it again!

I was looking for a mauve/purple lip sheer to replace my BB Mauve palette’s LE lippie called “Dusty Mauve” and ended up at the Laura Mercier counter and bought Amethyst (neutral to cool medium mauve with silver reflection). No sparkles or grit.
Amethyst is a shimmer with major reflective quality but not gooey or glossy at all. On certain angles, it will look like a medium mauvy lipstick and if you have it in an angle where the reflection catches, it’ll look much paler and silvery. Applied with a thin coat it has excellent coverage and great lasting power, and wear off to a nice stain.
Because of the mirrory/reflective quality of the shimmer, if you have a tendency to go over your true lip line (some gals do this) I would skip this lippie since it would make that overshooting totally show up.
I normally have a pref for paler nudes, and I have noticed that I seem to wear this blotted. So I guess I actually prefer the stained looked with this lippie.
Done this way… there is a little less shimmer to it by then and it gives your lips that perfect “I actually have pigment in my lips look”. A MAJOR bonus if you have pale lips or lack some definition to your lip line like I do. Think of it like a perfect bitten lip colour. 🙂
It’s winter now, and the mauve/purple stain looks great aginst my paler skin, but I think it will also look sexy with a tan, some bronzer, and neutral eyeshadow shimmer!

This lipstick is pinkier than one is led to believe by looking at it. There is a nice bit of silver shimmer, but under the shimmer is a lovely berry pink ylbb color. I don’t even know if I would call it mauve. The best description I can think of is what the now sadly discontinued Bobbie Brown shimmer gloss “burnt sugar” would look like with silver shimmer instead of gold. Amethyst completely brightens my face and gives my lips a polished, made up look without looking OTT, even with the shimmer. Will definitely repurchase.

I had to take one lippie off because I can’t stand the smell or taste of this. I wish LM lipsticks tasted and smelled as good as her lip kisses. Anyway this is a complex color in that it is mauvy-dark pinkish color. I got this along with violet glace and when I pair them together….VERY NICE!!! I will not buy this again due to the smell and taste though. 🙁

I picked this up in the sale bin at Ulta and I really love this shadow. I’ve had Ulta shadows before and I have always loved the quality. Keep in mind that I don’t like heavy makeup so the fact that I need to put my brush on the shadow to pick up some color does not bother me in the slightest. You youngin’s who love those heavy eyeshadow looks will probably not like this product.
This product blends beautifully, it is not chalky and it’s not glittery at all. In fact it has a satin finish that is perfect for workplace looks. The light, pretty plummy color really make my light green eyes pop and love the light, pretty eye looks I can create with this shadow. I have to be careful as some plums make me look like I was socked in the eye but Amethyst is just the opposite. I don’t know if Ulta is discontinuing this color or not since I picked it up on sale. I hope not, I have used it every day since I bought it and I really love it!

Applied dry, I couldn’t get this to show up at all. Applied wet, it looks nice but still not as bright as I would have expected. And no matter how I apply it, I have silver glitter all over my face before I ever get out of the house. Not keeping it, there are better purples.
mereOil2
I think they have changed the way they make this eye shadow because I didn’t feel it was overly glittery, in fact it was just the right amount of shimmer with a pleasantly plum/gold/rose color that blends well. I do agree with the comments that it does take a few applications for the color really to show nicely but I didn’t experience any fall out.
madMagpie5
This looked really cute in the store. A pretty dusty purple with rose accents in it. I purchased it and put it on the next day. The color didn’t even show up on my eye! I tried and tried and it still didn’t work! I have tried to wear this multiple times with many different brushes and nothing makes it show up. Complete waste of money!
dopeyRaisins3
This color is very unique, given that it looks like a dark sparkly purple in the pan yet transforms into a medium warm coppery pink upon being applied to skin.
I’m a PPP (pale skin, pink undertones). Usually I’d hide from a shade like this, but I do like it nonetheless. It looks natural and yet still makes my eye color “pop”!
I probably wouldn’t repurchase. Because this isn’t HG status. However I put yes for rebuy, seeing as after all this is a good product. I like Ulta eye shadows.
culturedPie8
doesn’t show up well and then when it does it’s cakey

I love purple and when I saw that this eyeshadow was going to be in a grand opening gift, I was excited….
The color payoff isn’t that great and does take a little bit of work to get it to show up, but if you use a good base you should be able to get it to show up.
I have been putting this on the outer third of my eyelid with a berry color on the rest and the effect is great….:)

Beautiful dusty eggplant. Vintage look. This is such a gorgeous polish. The color is truly beautiful and while not a duochrome it is a shifter for sure. In some light it looks like a dark gray-plum, other times it looks red violet and plumy, and in other light it looks like eggplant. That purpley black shade. Only let it sit in the sun for a year and fade. Now you have this color. It’s actually very beautiful and deep and mysterious. It has a warmth and subtle inner glow with the red violet/plum microshimmers. The formula on this is A+. The polish is a nice thick density and it spreads out easily and is pretty much opaque in only 1 coat. This does not pool, run, or flood, and stays precisely where you put it. The cap is small and square and it does not come off revealing an easier to grip and use round handle so I had to just manage with this bulkier square one. The handle is super short and the brush is small and narrow but flexible so it does give you a lot of control and precision application is simple with the easy to control brush and the fantastic formula on the polish. I am loving how this color looks on me. It’s a warm shade and has the cool gray and violet tones but it’s dusty and has that red plum in it and it looks fabulous on. It almost looks like a browned gray polish until you look closer and discover it’s true colors. I love this bewitching polish and it is pretty to look at as well as wear. I picked this up at my local HEB from the core line. I love that this is not limited edition and I will be able to restock when this is gone. The bottle is a small one, not a mini, but smaller than regular at .37 fl oz. but the price is lower too at only $3 so it’s comparable to most other drugstore polishes price per oz. I don’t really mind the smaller bottle as I have yet to actually get to the bottom of a bottle of polish anyway. These little bottles are cute little squares and take up such little room and are a joy to store as they can slide right next to one another and leave no unused free space wasted. I like the shape for storage and they look like baby Chanels. Love this color, love this formula, love this price. Yes, please!

The smell of purple Spring days…heady, anticipation of summer, innocence…what a beautiful violet-centered fragrance. The violet melts into a very true lilac…and each note smells natural and real. This new version of Amethyst has a definite, soothing lavender note throughout, and some vanilla peeks through. Sage Machado’s description of this as a “lavender tea cookie” is right on the money. Amazing!
truthfulTermite9
LOOOVED this one by Sage Machado…… it is so pretty with that sort of “elusive” scent that some sage machado frag.s have…… It is definitely violet but not sweet, acrid violet a pretty violet “softened” by musk and other things????? it is only a touch of violet with lots of pretty musks and things…. maybe some amber? I like it although it is hard for me to pin down….. a musky and warm yet floral yet not “cloying” and slightly clean fragrance. Very sexy and especially for winter though could probably be worn all year round.
jealousRice5
Sadly, this was all violet on me…I’d take lilac any day over violet….smells off on me. It is, however long lasting and has good sillage. I like many of the Sage perfumes, but this one is not for me.
zestyEggs9
A pretty floral scent with a predominant lilac note. Other notes include gardenia, violet, orris, iris root. One of two lilac scents I can wear only because it wears close to the skin (the other is Frederic Malle’s En Passant). The oil lasts a long time, also.
eagerJerky9
I too saw this as a VERY purple fragrance. It smeels like lilac-violet room spray…or a urinal puck. It smells very STRONG, not for the body.
worriedApricots5
For the first half hour, Amethyst is an ebullient burst of tart violet. Powdery and sweet. As it develops, however, violet gives way to a loud jasmine…which is then overtaken by a clodding, peppery tuberose-like gardenia. Not the heady lilac I wanted.
murkyRice7
Extreme lushness! Violet, gardenia, lilac and orris. The violet strikes me the most and it’s lovely, but all these gorgeous smelling flowers mixed together makes a heady potion, bordering on being ever so slightly sour when I first put it on. Luckily that soon goes and the dry-down is very pretty violets with a touch of soapiness. It’s a similar dry-down to Jade in a way, though their notes are different, but I prefer Jade as it hasn’t got that soapiness, instead it has a soft nag champa, but not quite nag champa feel. I do like to wear Amethyst on one hand and Sage on the other though. Lovely combination.

This is such a beautiful scent. It is such an authentic smelling black currant fragrance without the sticky sweetness of so many other dark berry scents out there. It smells so close to the black currant jelly my grandma used to make when I was little it brought tears to my eyes. The main notes I get from Amethyst are perfectly ripened juicy black currants basking in the sun after a soft summer rain.
The initial spray is full on black currant and then the earthy notes like cedar and gentle musk come in and soften the berry a bit making me feel like I am standing in a field surrounded by thriving black currant bushes and the leaves and earth are still damp from a summer rain. The drydown still has some black currant but I also a beautiful vanilla note that melds so nicely with that very soft earthy scent from earlier. This is just a beautiful fragrance. It is very hard to find a dark berry fragrance that is mature and not overly sweet and this is just the perfect balance for me. I do wish it had more longevity but I will probably decant some to put in my bag so I can reapply and sink back into that beautiful field of fresh black currants
excludedGnu5
It’s berries without the syrup. The dark rose accord with the hint of salt and pepper really elevates this beyond a simple berry scent. Great sillage, pretty linear with a hint of musk on the dry down. It smells like a high-end hair salon. Lovely.

I purchased this perfume on a whim recently at Heathrow Airport and unfortunately I won’t be wearing…somehow there is a lingering smell of berries to it which makes it for me too
overwhelmingly fruity….if you adore a ‘berry’ scent I would highly recommend it….
contentMagpie1
Good for a floral fruity, but not earth shattering. Hot Couture is similar & much better imo. Pass.
pridefulShads7
This is one of my favorite fragrances. It’s a comfort scent for me. I wear it to bed to help me relax and have good dreams. Sometimes, if I’m stressed, I spray it on. The berries morph into flowers and vanilla. It’s truly lovely. The bottle is also attractive. I wish I could afford the art bottle of perfume, but that’s out of my financial league.
The only drawback for me is it doesn’t last long at all. For an edp, that’s disappointing. I bought the perfumed body lotion to layer it with, thinking that would help it to last longer, but to no avail. But I adore this fragrance and will continue to buy it and hope it is never discontinued.

my signature fragrance. been using it for more than 5 years and cannot seem to deviate from it. 🙂 i am constantly flooded with compliments and people curiously asking about my perfume.

Notes: nutmeg, blackberry, currant; rose, pepper, peony, lily, ylang-ylang; Bourbon vanilla and musk.
This fragrance opens with a ripe berry accord that is sweet and juicy. A touch of spices adds depth to the composition which otherwise would have been too girlish. After a while the fragrance gradually transitions from fruity to floral, allowing the gorgeous rose note to shine. The reign of the queen of flowers does not last the entire heart accord, for towards the end lily and ylang-ylang share this duty with her. The final stage of this fragrance is characterised by vanilla with a dash of musk. Young and sophisticated this fragrance just screams spring to me. Lasts for more than 4 hours on my skin.

Amethyst is a part of MaxFactor Glossfinity range. It’s a dark purple, creme polish.
The formula is good: 2 coats gave me perfect coverage. It dries fast to a shiny finish and it lasts rather well too. I like that despite being dark, this polish didn’t look black in any lighting.
The only reason I wouldn’t repurchase this polish is because this is not the colour I wear very much, but if you are looking for a dark purple creme, I would recommend you check this polish out. OPI has 2 very similar polishes in its range: Vant To Bite My Neck and A Grape Affair.

Gorgeous mauve-y pink with slight shimmer. Love this color and will definitely repurchase although I do despise the perfumy smell.

I adore this color! It’s one of my fav. standby lipsticks of all time. Its a beautiful color with purple and brownish tints but even though it’s “dark” it looks good on my fair skin…you can change the look quite a bit by playing with lipglosses over it as well.
solidSalt6
Very pretty mauve/purple color. I saw this on the salesperson and asked her what color she had on. She was wearing the amethyst with the violet glace over it. It looked so pretty I ended up buying both. Her coloring was brown/brown and mine is blonde/green, but I thought it looked great on both of us 🙂
aloofOrange2
I was drawn to this color specifically BECAUSE of the glitter. I am in a glitter phase right now, I guess. I love the color, but it’s not very highly pigmented, because it doesn’t go on quite as dark as it is in the pan. It’s still a lovely color, though, and I paired it with Organza and Twilight to make a very nice overall effect on my brown eyes and fair skin. Will repurchase.
boredVenison4
What a pretty shade in the pot but be WARNED of all the glitter fall-out! I mistakenly chose this color one mornining for work. By the time my routine was complete, I looked like a disco ball. Just way too much glitter all over the place. This must be carefully applied, like a loose pigment (foiling technique) and ONLY for a night out on the town.
grudgingSausage3
Amethyst is my absolute favorite color yet of the Ulta shadows! I uploaded a picture in the upper right hand corner and its the purple color. This color is so pigmented. You can apply it lightly and its perfect for day or build the color and its great for dark smokey eyes. I also wear it alone and its to great! The pigmentation is the same as higher end cosmetics aka MAC and a fraction of the price. 2/$7!!!
