Love these. I picked up every color except for the red which I thought was more lipstick and less balm/stain. Found the first couple at Kohl’s in the discount area but went back for rest of colors. These are great. If you love sheer balm/stains you owe it to yourself to try these. Since these were discounted at Kohl’s, I hope they are not being phased out.

Talk about a soft release! I feel like Lorac slipped this one under the radar for some reason, because almost no one is talking about them. That’s somewhat baffling, because all in all, this is a great product!
I purchased the shade “Secret Agent”. One thing you’ll notice is that all of the shade names are the same as their Alter Ego lipstick and gloss counterparts. I appreciate this, as it gives me a good reference in terms of what the shade is supposed to be if I’m buying online and am already familiar with the previous ranges. “Secret Agent” is a medium nude shade, with mostly brown leanings and some rosy undertones. It’s flattering against my light, olive complexion. Since this is a balm stain, it’s a little bit sheer, but very buildable. The result after two coats is a gorgeous, semi-opaque wash of color that looks soft and very flattering. It’s perfect for a “no makeup” makeup look, really. The other shades range from lighter nudes, to bright pinks and berries, to deeper berries that would be perfect for a soft, romantic Autumn look.
The formula is hydrating, though not as powerfully hydrating as a typical lip treatment, which is why I still categorized these under a lipstick. To me, they are more of a sheer lipstick formula, only with better staying power. The finish is satiny, not matte, with a slight sheen.
Speaking of longevity, these really do last! I don’t know about the nude shades staining, per se, but I imagine the berries, pinks, and reds might. (I’ll amend this review when I pick up one of the berry shades that I’m eyeing to indicate whether or not it actually stains,) However, I do find that these last well enough through normal wear – way better than a more typical, thinner, sheer lipstick formula.
The packaging is a real knock out of the park! The tube is pretty – it’s a deep taupe chrome gunmetal with “LORAC Los Angeles” printed in light gray. No excess print to make it look cheap. It feels quite high end, and though they managed to make a very sleek, compact tube, it still packs a whopping 5g of product, which is a LOT for a lipstick! That alone makes it worth the $19 pricetag, if you ask me!
Yes, $19 for a lip balm is a lot. But this is more than that. Honestly, I don’t think $19 for a good amount of product whose attributes are more like that of a high-end sheer lipstick formula is too much. For that reason, I won’t feel guilty about stocking up in other shades.
