I was lucky enough this week to find two/three lippies that are really great for me. I suddenly got the bug (again) to find a nude that would work for me. I’ve tried a few before with disappointing results. The first I found, after watching a few YouTube videos, was Maybelline’s Truffle Tease. I wanted a kind of taupy, mushroomy shade, to see how it would look. This was the one out of five drugstore shades that worked really, really well on me! Not as a complete nude, but as a MLBB shade. I look weird with a truly nude lip.
But… it has a chemical smell and slightly weird feel on the lips and I decided that since I’d be wearing the shade a lot, I should find a high-quality dupe that wouldn’t inflict this smell on me. (I’ll keep Truffle Tease as a backup.) This led me to the MAC counter, where I swatched a lot of colors next to Truffle Tease and found two that I really wanted. One was Touch, which was a perfect dupe and has a wonderful feel and smell (Lustre formula). The other was Tea Ceremony, which is in the Sheen Supreme formula which is so luxurious and shiny and thick. It looked like pretty much the same color. They were out of it, and I realized when they couldn’t order it that it’s being discontinued. I finally managed to get hold of it, and after wearing it in different lights I see that it is actually lighter than Touch and is more of a nude on me. And it looks good! This is really great. I guess for my skintone (very fair, olive undertones, tans well), shades that work well on African and Indian skin are good. Tea Ceremony was part of a collection specifically designed for Indian skin. So in the future when I run out of it, I’ll take it along to swatch and find a good replacement. It’s nice to finally know what will work on me — cool brownish colors. They don’t look brown on my lips, just natural. Note — Tea Ceremony also has fine, gold sparkle in it. Very nice for a fancy occasion but not overdone.
To get a true, stark nude, I can put concealer on my lips and then Tea Ceremony. But as noted above, this looks creepy — possibly glamorous, but creepy. My skin color doesn’t look good on my lips.
In case you’re looking for something slightly darker, Spirit tempted me as well. It is a shade or two darker on the same spectrum.

Perfect nude for warm-toned girls. I bought it specifically to go with gold/bronze eye looks. Because I have freckles, normal beige nudes look odd on me but this one is somewhat darker and warmer toned and that’s why this one looks so great!

What a beautiful colour this is, it’s like a slightly warmer, more moist version of NARS Blonde Venus, a nude ,yellowish/brown peach with a lovely shine. I am NC25 , very warm-toned and it just wakes my face up beautifully. I tried Bare Again but it was just a bit too brown for me and the SA suggested this colour instead and I am glad she did. A wonderful summer colour that goes well with NARS Lustre blush and a bronze eye.I really love this formulation , it’s very moist but highly pigmented and has decent staying power. In the photo Blonde Venus is on the left and Tea Ceremony on the right, the sheen distorts the colour a wee bit with the flash but it is a gorgeous colour.
