On a budget I tried a couple of liquid matte lipsticks, my choices based on colour. Firstly I tried two hardcore colours by LA Girl – they had by far the best choice in fashion forward colours but…in the cold light of day they did not suit me, and seemed weak in pigment and didn’t work at all well when I tried to layer up. Next I tried a pale dusky pink by sleek who I’ve often had luck with…though the colour was good…the texture stayed sticky aalll day. Finally, on another colour whim, I tried a fuchsia pink by MUA and it was perfect. Strong pigment that I didn’t need to apply more than one layer, not sticky or drying. I suspect it doesn’t have the staying power of high end brands…and there’s a limited range of colours…but I stumbled on a fantastic budget pick and it deserves recommending.

I think when it comes to matte lipsticks you get what you pay for. You don’t get much for this lipstick! It is very drying and high maintenance. It cracks easy and it is not the best looking lipstick. The colours are ok. If you are just going to the shops quickly or sitting in a lecture then the lipstick does the job for one hour only. For longer lasting lipstick you need to invest in the right lipstick. Simple. This is not the right investment.

I love this, I have this in the colour ‘Reckless’ and it is very matte, opaque and feels nice on my lips. It is drying after a bit of time but I think you could get around this by exfoliating and moisturising lips prior to application (let a lip balm soak in for a while). It will eventually flake but can handle a new coat quite smoothly. I won’t ever need to repurchase in this colour (it is intense) because I’m certain I won’t need to buy another one (I don’t wear intense colours often). A really nice matte liquid lipstick that does require a small amount of maintenance of you have dry lips but otherwise I can’t find any flaws.

If you want dry, crumbly, chapped, old, sticky lips… Buy these!!

Oh my gosh, these are frigging awful. I don’t understand why they are so popular in general with this type of product, it takes forever to work with and apply, it then dries and sucks the life out of my lips and then if I move my lips, I look goddamn awful. The colour Halcyon is the best and I’ve been trying forever to find a similar colour in a lipstick form. But the product itself sucks, maybe looks acceptable in a distance and in photos where the camera is in low quality res!
P.S I do love matte lipsticks and own some but they need to be good quality matte where it doesn’t suck the life out of my lips. (Loreal do some really good nude, matte ones). I own a matte lipstick from MUA and that is also rubbish, sticking it far away in the back of my drawer.

First off, I think that the only reason anyone could give a bad review is if they don’t “get” matte liquid lipsticks. They’re quite newly trending and if you’ve not worn them before you can find them extremely dry or uncomfortable, but thats how they are for the visual pay-off.
I’ve personally got two Gerard Cosmetics versions of this, and they’re brilliant, but expensive. These MUA ones are basically the same thing for a lot less money. I think I paid £16 for Gerard and £3 each for MUA. You can even get a set of 8 and a bag for £20 on the site, so a bundle for only £4 more than just one by Gerard.
Lasts all day, think they actually last through more than Gerard, they don’t dry too fast to work with in my opinion I’m not sure why I’ve read that from someone else, I guess you have to know to get it right the first time, it’s not really something you re-apply once it’s “set”.
It looks totally different dry than it does wet, so consider that when sampling them in store etc.
I think this is one of those products that perfectly dupes something hella expensive (like Gerard Cosmetics) but only costs pennies. Bought two more yesterday.

I purchased these lipsticks whilst out looking for an eyebrow pencil in Superdrug. I normally just get the MUA one in Brunette but then something caught my eye – 3 for 2 across all cosmetics and beauty and these lipsticks were literally begging me to pick them up!
It took me a good 20 minutes or so to pick the 3 colours that I liked as there were loads to choose from so colour range is definitely varied which is really good as everyone has something they will like. I picked up a deep purple colour, a pink-purplish colour and a Coral shade. I like my lips popping 🙂
These were £3 each but there was an offer across all products (3 for 2) but definitely affordable.
These lipsticks are OK, nothing special. They wear super vivid but one has to work super quick as they dry just as quickly. I found I didn’t have to wear lipliner with these but that’s definitely a preference thing. Lipsticks are also very long lasting! My wear without any food or drink was probably 5 hours so great for a night out where you won’t need constant reapplication.
Knocking off a lippie because these can be quite drying and can turn quite mucky. I normally just moisturise with a lip balm or vaseline before application. I find this helps to retain moisture and not chap my lips.
Overall, I would recommend to someone looking for a vibrant lip lacquer on a budget. I’m loving Revlon Colourblast sticks so will not be repurchasing once I run out. Nice enough packaging though

The most drying lipstick ever. I have one in reckless. After using, my lips became so so dry and flaky. It was so bad. My lips started feeling so itchy (never happened before) and just uncomfortably painful. At the end of the day my lips were so chapped, blood came out. That day I decided never to use MUA’s lipsticks again.
I will say that these are sold at very cheap prices but I’d rather go buy higher end lipsticks if that means I don’t get the same experience.
I will also say that I have really dry lips to begin with, so maybe this won’t have the same horrible effect on people with normal lips. The color reckless is actually quite flattering, it’s a very deep red.

At only £3 in Superdrug, I would buy every single shade but I either don’t like it or I wouldn’t suit it, there is nothing else stopping me from buying this product, in different colours, over & over!
I debated buying one for months, looked at online reviews & decided at £3 it wouldn’t matter if it was awful anyway. Took me a while to chose a colour too but I was determined to get a nude-ish colour so I settled for Halcyon, a deep peachy, slight pinky coral kinda colour.
No regrets so far, you can use it for ombré looks as it stays wet for a few minutes, or you can use it alone. If you do, you don’t need a lip liner & you have to get it on quick because if you layer it on, it goes tacky & uneven, so, if you can, 1 swish, quick action with this one!
Apart from that, because it’s so cheap, you can’t slate it for because rubbish or have any complaints because you always pay for what you get, brilliant for £3!
