I’ve been wearing lip stain for over 20 years, and have watched the trends, colors, and styles come and go. I’m pretty sure I’ve bought or tried all that were ever on the market in the USA during that time. The problem for me usually is in the fake color, or the sticky feel.
Lorac is the only brand that has made one that I adore, particularly the Sheer Magic color. There has been nothing like it before, or since. I think lip stain should be the color of blood, and no one else has gotten that right except Lorac. The roller ball acts just to dispense a dab onto your lips, not roll it on. You have to get involved – use your finger to spread it out on your lips, but I’ve had to do this with all lip stains – stain-y fingers are part of the game.
I bought like 3 of these and have held onto them like gold for the past 7 years or so, and none have started stinking or changed consistency. I wish they would sell this product again because I’m not sure it’s so good to use a liquid product that’s so old, but alas, they don’t. If anyone wants to sell their old one to me for when mine runs out, let me know. (Is there a way to let me know via this site?) Or if you liked it, maybe send Lorac a comment to tell them to bring it back. I’ve done that, but I may be the only one asking.
Que sera.

I love lipstains and was excited about purchasing Sheer Luck, but it has now sat in my makeup drawer for 5 months without use. Why?
The roller ball causes the product to come out in uneven splotches–sometimes, the first swipe will gain no product, and other times, the first swipe leaves you with puddles of stain on your lips.
The color itself was expected to be a dark, brownish berry, but it dries unevenly and honestly, looks like dried blood–murky, patchy, and brown. I’m not sure who this color would suit.
Overall, this is not a product I would return to. I’ve had much better luck with the lip stains by Urban Decay. The one saving grace of this product is that you get a lot of it, so if you like it, you probably won’t have to repurchase for a while.

I LOVE this stain but agree with the other reviews that it dries quick. The trick is, you have to moisturize right before you put it on, then put it on. It’s easier to spread and dries slightly less fast. You do not need much of this product at all to get the desired effect. The rollerball will sometimes let out too much color at once, so you just have to dab at your cheek vs. rolling constantly back and forth on it. Other then that, this stain lasts until you take it off, through sweat and tears literally. It has highly rich, saturated color and makes my lips look flushed and just kissed when I use it as a lip stain (color I use is Sheer Luck). The trick (since remember, it dries fast!) is that I have to put a gloss or balm on over it and rub my lips together to get even color. I highly recommend it, even with the price as it lasts a long time.

I love the idea of a stain, but I find it difficult to get even color with this product, and the packaging is not ideal.

Roller ball gets stuck and I have to use my finger to get it started. Color does not deposit evenly and lines in lips are apparent–must have moist supple lips. I do like the plummy color, however.

I have this in Sheer Emotion, a raspberry colored stain. This is by far the longest lasting and my favorite colored stain I have tried. However, it is definitely a stain and I am totally unable to use this on my cheeks because by the time I have the product on there, it has dried. It dries similarly quickly on my lips, but I find I’m more able to get it looking even on my lips so it is not as much of a problem. It quickly builds up to a deep stain with multiple coats. I do have serious issues with the roller ball applicator: it deposits way too much color on my lips and does not give enough control (unless you want to use your finger to even it out and have stained hands all day). Instead, I use an old Benetint Pocket Pal lip brush to dab on roller ball and then sweep the color on to my lips. The bottle has not leaked when I’ve placed it in my makeup bag for travel. If I put this stain on first thing in the morning (and I always top it with gloss or lip balm because it adds zero moisture), there is always significant color on my lips by the afternoon. While it is a bit pricey, I think for the amount you use with each application, it is definitely worth it — I’ve used it almost every day for 4 months and barely have made a dent in the bottle. Despite the fact that I hate the applicator, the stain colors my lips the perfect slightly darker than natural berry, so I will continue to use it in the hopes that LORAC will wise up and change the applicator one of these days.

Yay! A lip stain that I actually like! I bought this in Sheer Magic which is more of brown based dark red, as opposed to the bright cherry red that most lip stains are. It’s perfect for those of you who feel ridiculous wearing other stains! The roller ball applies the product evenly, and it lasts a while once it’s on. I would definitely repurchase this in the future.

Love this lip stain. Great color, lasts a long time, not drying. Only problem is the roller ball applicator — it leaks and is not ideal for application. Sheer magic is a deep red/brownish red which I love. The other two colors are both nice, too, but very similar to each other. I would not recommend this as a blush, but absolutely love it as a lip stain.

i have this in all colors and sheer magic is my least favorite. It’s like a dark orangey color and with these the applications have to be careful because they can easily be messed up. It does stain your fingers.
it’s also $20, expensive for a lip stain in my opinion, but affordable.

Initially I loved this, but I found that it stained my pores! Stay away if you’ve ever had problems with sebum plugs, it will darken them. Packaging also gets very messy/ covered with product.
