Colour application is uneven. I don’t like the texture.

This is an odd product. I’m not quite sure how I feel about it, which is why I’ve only given it three stars, but if 3.5 had been an option I would’ve gave it that. Joe Fresh is a cruelty free Canadian brand that can be found at Shoppers Drug Mart and Superstores in Canada.
The product costs $12.00 regularly, but I found it on sale for $5. I really doubt I would rebuy for $12.00, because there are other lip products I like more. Maybe if it goes on sale again I’ll pick up another colour, but I’m not sure.
I picked up the shade Nude, which is a really pretty rosey pink colour. It cancels out my natural lip colour completely, which I like! I think it’ll be a really lovely colour for spring/summer, but it’s not a colour I would personally call a nude. It’s a really pretty colour, though!
This product does have a scent, so if you’re sensitive to scents I’d be a bit cautious. If you can find a tester of this product I highly recommend smelling it, but this brand doesn’t typically have testers (at least not at the stores I’ve been to!) which is a bit lousy. This product smells like vanilla cupcakes, it is very sweet. If you’ve smelled Nyx lip products they also have a vanilla scent, but I personally feel like the Joe Fresh scent is stronger. I can’t smell the product after I put it on my lips, though!
I like the packaging that the product has. It’s a clear tube with a white lid. On the tube Joe Fresh and Long Wear Lip Veil is printed on it in a silvery colour. It’s just a nice simple design, nothing I’d be embarrassed to pull out in public! The applicator is one of those flat kinds, it’s not angled in any way. Just flat on both sides. Some people don’t like that, I personally don’t have a problem with it.
The consistency of this product is strange. I picked this up on a whim, not knowing anything about it and not being able to test it. Seeing as how it’s called a “long wear lip veil” I thought it might be a matte product – it’s not! I don’t personally have an issue with that, but if you’re expecting a matte lipstick just know that that is not what this product is.
It’s sticky on my lips, but it’s not overly glossy/shiny. it looks like a satin finish lipstick, I’d say. I think the product was going for a more natural finish, and I think they’re achieving that.
My gripes with the product though, are what’s keeping me from grading it higher and making me a bit hesitant about repurchasing. When I apply this I *have* to dab off excess. If I don’t I feel like it looks gross. It bunches up and is just not a pretty situation. When I dab it off with my finger or a dry baby wipe, it looks normal. This is a bit annoying because that means whenever I apply this I either need a dry baby wipe or I get product on my fingers. After I’ve fiddled with it though, I think it looks really pretty applied on my lips! I just feel like at $12.00 (more expensive for a drug store brand), a product shouldn’t be finicky. I know I can get the same/similar end results with other products for much cheaper (Essence long lasting lipsticks, spring to mind) and they won’t feel sticky.
This product also makes me lips feel strange, for the first 5-10 minutes it’s applied. It makes them feel kind of numb? I’m not really sure why. It doesn’t say it’s a plumping product, nor do I feel like it plumps my lips. It doesn’t irritate my lips either and after the 5-10 minutes my lips go back to feeling totally normal. It’s strange and I’m not a fan of of that!
I wouldn’t say this is long wearing, at least not any longer than other lipsticks that aren’t matte. It will transfer, and as such it’ll wear off your lips. I find when it wears off my lips it does so in an even way, it doesn’t leave a ring around my mouth or anything like that.
I feel like at the end of the day I do enjoy the product, I’m just hesitant about it. I love the colour and how it looks after I dab off some of it – I just wish I didn’t have to dab off some of it. I also wish it didn’t make my lips numb, but that feeling does go away so that not a massive deal. I just personally don’t feel like it’s worth $12.00, but if it’s on sale I would be more lenient to pick up a shade or two of it.
