I was (& still am) using this Mulberry colour mainly for my cheeks. It has seriously dark, blood-like red colour, and blends really well top of most of the foundations I used (Laura, Chanel, Suqqu etc).
Sadly after using for over 3 years (!) my jar is about to end, and now that Laura decided to discontinue this amazing product (sad), I am in my journey of finding the dupe. . . .

My mom gave me this lip stain because she didn’t like it but it quickly became my go-to color for nights out! I unfortunately lost mine and Sephora no longer sells this product, so I tried to replace it with an Urban Decay lipstick, but I have not been able to find this berry/red color anywhere else. I like how matte the lip stain is. It looks very natural on my fair skin tone. It is also very easy to apply, and the pot lasts forever! It may not be a traditional “stain,” in fact, it is more like a lipstick in a pot, but I found that it was easy to apply with my finger and could also be used with a lip brush. Once applied, it stayed put slightly better than lipstick. I didn’t have to worry about smudging or feathering, and I never wore lip liner with it. It is somewhat drying, and usually I would wear lip balm along with the stain in order to combat that. If I wanted more shine I would wear lip gloss on top, and that also helped with the dryness. I am giving this product five stars because I sorely miss it and absolutely love the color. It is universally flattering and sophisticated. I am planning on trying to find it on Amazon!

I absolutely adore the colour of this lip stain. It is perfection. It is the most gorgeous natural red on my lips that I have ever seen. I love the fact that I can apply this as a more sheer wash of colour, but also as a thicker layer, almost like a lipstick. I love this product the most when it is applied sheerly, because it gives me lovely red lips, while allowing my lips to look like natural lips, and not like lips that have lipstick on them. It is such a versatile product. I like to carry this around all the time. I can use it to give my lips some colour, or to apply a more full on dark lip. It can be used for both natural day looks and more extravagant night looks. This product does stain my lips, especially when I apply a thin layer, or multiple thin layers. The only downsides to this product are dryness and packaging. This product can be a bit drying on my lips, and it also has quite a dry texture. It’s not that much of a problem though, because I just use a little lipbalm over it, and it doesn’t really affect the staying power of the lip stain itself. I also don’t like the fact that it comes in a little pot (though I’m not sure what kind of packaging would be better for this kind of product). I don’t think that I’ll ever need to repurchase this, because a little goes a very long way, but I would buy it again if I had to.

I’m kind of surprised by the low ratings on this product. The color is absolutely gorgeous, the perfect daily understated red. The texture is almost like a very thick balm, verging on a potted lipstick. For those who say that it doesn’t actually stain, I think they’re putting on way too much. I put on two thin layers with my finger and let it set for a while. I then pressed my lips to the back of my hand several times and barely anything came off. I ate some potato chips, had a few drinks… lips still look exactly the same. You barely have to use any of this to get a gorgeous look so it will last a VERY long time. I got this on eBay for about 1/2 retail price so it’s a great value. I’d gladly pay full price for this, however, it’s just that good. This is my first Laura Mercier product and I’m actually quite impressed. I really love this stuff.

Looks natural, but still rather dark on my pale skin and thin lips. Very dry, too, even in the pot itself. It was a bit of challenge for me to use it, until I found a somewhat neglected nude color, creamy and moisturizing lipstick and used the two together. It’s too bad, I was really excited about this product, but definitely would not repurchase.

I like the color very much, but I wouldn’t call this a stain. It doesn’t last any longer than any matte lipstick. Mulberry is a fairly dark, warm berry shade with a hint of brown (just a hint). A little too dark, perhaps, for my NC20 complexion, but looks great applied with a light hand and toned down with a sheer gloss over the top. I probably won’t repurchase, as the pot will probably last a long time, given that I apply sparingly. I would be interested to try other shades, but would probably only purchase another shade if I could buy it on sale, it’s fairly pricey.

Laura Mercier’s Lip Stain in Mulberry creates a very beautiful, very natural red-brownish color on your lips. Not quite the technical term for lip stain in consistency, nor as thick as a lipstick, it lasts quite a long time on your lips without being overly dry, although I recommend topping with a salve lightly after application. I feel as though the color suits skin lighter skin tones, mine as a couple shades lighter than olive it enhanced my natural lip color.
Though the lip color was indeed very beautiful, and I felt as if it did not belong to me. My prefered lip color is always dark (think Theda Bara and other vampy silent film stars), but given the beauty of its color, should not deter others from purchasing this item who would like a wearable red, without being overpowering. It was fun to flirt with a natural side of me, for the short duration it gave me.

I want to love this so much, but it dries my lips out so bad!
I have been on a constant quest to find my wedding day color and gave this a whirl at Sephora. I adore the color! You can build it from a soft red up to a deep sultry purplish red. I don’t mind the packaging because I just pat my finger on top, then pat across my lips.
I’ve tried every balm and gloss combination, but can’t find anything to combine with this to make my lips not feel all crusty! I’m so disappointed. I thought I had found my answer-prayer! And of course now I’ve thrown out the box and receipt, so it can’t go back. $20 down the drain.

Nice reddish berry shade on my pale yellow skin, but drying and fades quickly. Frustratingly mislabeled- this is a dry lipstick at best. My favourite Guerlain tinted lip balm lasts twice as long, which is inexcusable for a “tint”. Great shade, crummy packaging and wear!

PROS: Color was very similar on the lips as it was in the package. Pretty natural on me; just a couple notches over my natural color. I’m N15, leaning to NC. Felt good on the lips for a stain; didn’t dry me out.
CONS: Some people won’t like that it’s in a pot. Doesn’t come with a brush. A little too pricey for me.
