I’d like to start by saying this: I received this in the shades Vine and Melrose before they were somewhat discontinued as a review product. I sort of regret tossing these out, though there were many reasons I did not reach for these, like, EVER.
There were a few things that I liked about this product, at the top of the list, being the ingredients, and coming in second, the scent. These smell like a nice, neutral peppermint, and give the lips a cooling feeling, rather than that hot, burning, or sizzling feel. I loved that these came in such a unique and adorable package, and that there was jojoba oil, peppermint extract, and shea butter in a gel consistency; I have yet to see another product like this.
The deal breaker, however, was the consistency itself. The gel felt amazing, and these gave just the right flush of color and moisture, but for some reason, of the four I owned, all of them gave a very gross, gritty feeling when I rubbed my lips together. I thought maybe I had bought and received some from an old batch, so I waited a few weeks, and bought new ones from the website once more…still the same sandpaper problem. It felt as if I had put the lip gel on after eating a sandwich, and the bread crumbs got stuck in my lip gloss or something. I tried everything, exfoliating and curing with a treatment balm, wiping my lips clean, and applying first thing in the AM before I ate anything.
Nothing worked. It’s a shame, and I so wish I could have held on to these and figured out some way to make them work.
I am pleased that they created the same shades in the Lip Per-fekt gel crayon form, as I am absolutely, positively in LOVE with the original “Hint-of-Tint” shade!

I bought this because no matter what I’ve done my usual chapped-lips-prevention methods aren’t working this winter. I used to be okay with lip moisturizer at night and lipstick during the day, but these days even my moisturizing lipsticks aren’t keeping my lips completely soft. This gel is silky and smooth, and it works alone or over lipstick to add moisture. It’s surprisingly highly pigmented for a gloss, and lipstick isn’t really needed for color. This comes in a squeeze tube with a little flower-shaped applicator at the top that lets only small amounts of product get through. This is great, because a little goes a long way and it would be easy to waste such a concentrated product if it were in the wrong applicator. This has a slight minty scent that is refreshing and very nice, but it’s not stinging like “lip-plumpers”. I look terrible in “cool” colors, so only Sunset and Hollywood work for me (Sunset isn’t really that good of a color for me…) I apply my Sunset over my Per-fekt Cheek/Lip Stain in Peached and it looks wonderful. Seriously, I cannot believe how little product I need to get long-lasting, amazing color.
The lip gel does not feel “glossy” or “gooey” or even particularly moisturizing when it’s applied, so, to me, the product has a drier feel upon application than other lip products. This gel feels like it gets MORE moisturizing with wear, as impossible as that sounds. The product description mentions “Hyaluronic Microspheres”, which, upon application, feel like extremely fine granular substances. I think what happens is those “microspheres” melt from the heat of my lips and they create moisture in the gloss. When I apply the lip gel, I kind of dab it around my lips, and then I rub my lips together a few times. This stain lasts for 4 – 6 hours…maybe longer. Sunset and Hollywood are beautiful colors.
