I love long lasting lip colors so I thought the “epic ink” would be a really cool product to basically tint my lips. I chose a red and wine berry color because when those two colors wear off of me, it’s pretty apparant. I figured the NYX could go down first, dry, and then a more intense (matte bullet lipstick/liquid lip) color could be put down. Then boom, even if my liquid lip wore off I had the NYX color as backup. It didn’t work. If anything the NYX stain actually interacted with most of my lipsticks and actually made the mattes move more than normal. However, that’s not why I rated it lower (I don’t think it’d be fair to take away points because my experiment didn’t work!).
In my opinion, the product gives your lips the same look a popsicle would. Someone who likes a very natural look might enjoy this (where it won the extra lippie); however, it kind of renders the darker colors useless. When I tried to wear the dark wine color it went on patchy and if there was any texture to your lips the watery consistency pools into crevices. This means some areas have a dark color while other areas are that lighter popsicle vibe. Besides it not looking the best after application, I personally felt like I needed an additional lip product when I had on a full face of makeup. Otherwise, my lips looked like they were
missing something.
If I was more into very, very natural makeup maybe this would have a better rating. However, I also think people who are into very natural, low-key makeup wouldn’t even know this website exists! So for my homies on here … I wouldn’t recommend!

I had such a horrible time with this lip product! I tried wearing it with one coat, with multiple coats, layering under a lipstick…
My lips are pretty dry naturally which is sometimes a problem with lip stains, but I’ve tried and used other lip stains in the past with a lot of success. This one was super patchy, didn’t stain my lips at all, and was a nightmare to apply.
I feel like the doe foot applicator was a terrible choice, maybe it would have made more sense to go with a marker pen? I don’t know but even though it’s not too expensive, I would stay far away from this one.

I think some people might have this product confused and think that it is a lipstick. I’m kind of surprised by the bad reviews but it’s interesting that two people can have such a different experience! I’m glad there are a million products out there so we can all find something we like.
Onto my review…
When I heard NYX had lip stains, I couldn’t resist picking up a few colors that I don’t already own in another brand. I grabbed Victorian, Obsessed, Heartbreaker, Fresh, and Slay. Victorian is the first one that I tried and is the one that I’m wearing in the photo I uploaded above. This is watery and VERY pigmented. I got a little bit outside of my lipline, but that’s an error in my application and not feathering from the product. This dried in about a minute and it hasn’t budged since. I’ve put vaseline on top to give a little shine to my lips, and I’ve been drinking out of a straw all day and there’s no transfer on the straw. I’ve eaten twice and it hasn’t moved. Color me impressed! I can’t wait to try the other colors. I don’t know how this is going to come off if it didn’t come off with Vaseline… that’s my only concern lol.
Update: I’ve added pictures of Slay, Heartbreaker, Obsessed, and Fresh. Heartbreaker and Slay are my favorites. The best way to wash these off is with soap and water. Baby oil took off like 10% of it and then did nothing. Love these!

I regularly use Nyx lipsticks, so I was quite excited to see this new option. It does not moisturize the lips, so if your lips are like mine, you’ll need a gloss on top.
It wears off quickly, and it will stain your teeth if you get it on there. I may return it if I can find my receipt.

so, i think what i need to accept about this product is that it’s not a normal liquid lipstick. it’s very watery and is a stain (i got a red color and it was a bit jarring to apply. looked looked blood). my first application with this was awful. i tried again, and the trick is to have a consistent amount of product on the applicator. the hardest part is to get the edge to look good and have enough product to coat it evenly. you also will likely need more than one coat. if it won’t dry down all the way or you want to speed the process, use translucent powder on your finger to set it. once it’s dry, it stays on pretty well

Stained beautifully on my hand, so I was excited to try but…this is the worst lip stain I’ve ever used! So bad I returned to get my $7 back. Tried this every way possible but it was patchy and would set then look like total crap. HORRIBLE

I picked up this product in the color “Fresh” which is a deep berry color. The product is a thinner gloss, but not watery. I was able to apply it in one swipe for both top and bottom lips with decent coverage. I did do a 2nd coat just to amp up the color. It dried to a matte finish and was very pretty.
That’s where the fun ended. Apparently I am allergic to something in the product and got a stinging/burning sensation on my lips. Removal was a nightmare. I used MAC Cleansing Oil, coconut oil, micelar water, and plain old soap and water and NOTHING would completely remove the product. I had to take an allergy pill and ride it out.
Even then, this stuff wore down to a stain and hung on for a good 8 hours.
If it hadn’t been for the reaction, I’d have given it 5 lippies.

Beautiful product. It has a texture reminiscent of watercolor paint, and takes about three coats of application with drying in-between. I found that this dried like a second skin without drying or becoming irritating, and lasted almost all day with eating, drinking, and kissing, and fading gracefully with little transfer. I love the pigmentation, too! Will be buying in more colors.

Found this in the checkout line at Ulta. I normally LOVE all things NYX, especially their lip colors. I love their Butter lipsticks, their Lip Lingerie line, their Soft Matte Lip Creams…But boy, was this line a mistake. First thing I hate about it is that the tubes and colors don’t match accurately in the least. I bought the shade “Wizardry” and although the tube is dark mauve, it applies purple/black. It never dries down, it never “dyes” your lips, yet when I lick my lips, eat, or drink, it comes right off. You know what it IS good at staining? The skin around your mouth. I had to reapply my foundation after applying this lip stain because it smudged so badly. It applies very patchy and unevenly. It tastes like nail polish remover. I hate it and am going to return it and get my $7 back, more for the principle than for the money. Don’t bother!

I think these “Epic Ink Lip Dye” are new because I hadn’t seen them before. Anyway, I was at Ulta and they caught my eye so I bought one. They’re marketed as a lip stain with a matte finish, and let me tell you that in no way, shape or form, do they do that. I bought it in the shade “invasion.” It’s supposed to be a dark brown shade. It applied so streaky and patchy, and it never dried down. I returned it, and probably won’t try any other shades in this collection.
