This has HG status for me, not only as a lip balm. This is the kind of thick ointment used for cracked nipples when nursing. It is an excellent lip moisturizer and super occlusive moisturizer to aid barrier repair (as long as you’re not sensitive/allergic to it) and it is fan-tas-tic as a cuticle softener.
The texture reminds me of aquaphor, but a tad more dense/sticky.
This comes in a big tube, which is the one I buy, as it is more cost effective this way. But they also sell ii in a small tube, which is great to carry around in your purse. I find it more than enough applying it in the am and in the pm as part of my skincare routine. I don’t have to reapply throughout the day, as with many other lip balms, therefore I don’t need to carry in my purse. However, it does leave a pretty shine, so that could be a reason to reach for it multiple times a day.
Discovered it while nursing and haven’t been out of it since then, a few years ago.

This is truly a great product to have around, even if you’re not breastfeeding. I’ve used it for its intended purpose and it works, but I love it for its other uses.
My oldest son sucks his thumb, which causes him to drool, which sometimes causes a drool rash at the corner of his mouth. Applying a little bit of this product before bed prevents this entirely by creating a barrier on his skin. It also helps to heal any existing irritation by moisturizing the skin.
My youngest son seems to be prone to dry skin. Using a regular baby lotion (currently Arbonne)isn’t enough for him at the moment. His tiny arms got so dry that I actually thought he had a rash on them. I started rubbing this product into the dry spots morning and night and 24 hours later it was already starting to look better.
If anyone else who has a baby with very dry, irritated skin is interested, here’s what I do:
-Bath every 3rd day with a bit of Burt’s Bees baby oil in the water and a little bit of gentle cleanser.
-After bath, apply lotion all over (I’m currently using Arbonne but Burt’s Bees will be next) except apply Medela Tender Care to the very dry patches.
-Between baths, apply Medela Tender Care morning and night to any dry areas.
In short, this is a very good and vetsatile product and you probably need it 😉

I went looking for Lanolin and despite Lansinoh being sold here, all I could find was Medela Purelan (which is evidently what Tender Care is in some countries).
Purelan is in a plastic tube and the consistency of the lanolin is quite hard (in cold weather it takes a while to get any out). The lanolin inside doesn’t have a barnyard or otherwise detectable smell.
I got the lanolin for two reasons: my cuticles and my lips. For my cuticles, it has been fantastic. I don’t have any more rips or tears or the random callous from holding a pen on my thumb.
For my lips (since the brand is under lip treatments), the lanolin has helped heal chapping and is a good treatment. However it aggravated my tendency to cystic acne on my chin if i put it on at night, so now I put it on after my shower in the morning. I can feel it for several hours without reapplying.
I think this is a great product to have for skin emergencies: severely messed up cuticles, extremely chapped lips. I’ve integrated it into my daily routine for my cuticles, and keep it on hand for my lips when they are hurting.
I don’t like the tube, which looks like the tender care tubes except it is solid yellow- i feel a metal tube (kind of like l’occitane tubes) would help get more product out easily.

This is great value for a lip balm. The consistency melts well onto my lips, and I use this as a base before applying lipstick to give me that lipgloss look. The packaging is a tube, which I prefer for sanitary reasons, but it is big so it’s not ideal to carry in a small purse. My babies are still babies so I carry this in my diaper bag 🙂

La Mer… move over!!!! I discovered Medela Tender Care recently after I gave birth. It was given to me at the hospital to soothe nipples (from breastfeeding) and I noticed how well, almost how it miraculously soothed my skin. I was told to rub with my fingers until it literally ‘slips’ or ‘melts’ and used that same technique in applying it to my cracked lips. I now use this nightly on my lips, let it sink in and then wipe off with a cotton ball and notice how it sloughs off whatever dry patches I may have. I also use it as a base for my lipstick and it works wonders and helps the color to stay on longer. Have I mentioned that it keeps my lips moisturized for hours on end? I just love this product! Definitely a keeper.
Will I repurchase? I already have 😉

Whoa. This stuff is pretty amazing. I got this as a gift at my baby shower and I used it on my lips last night (have a few weeks til I’m due) because my husband is stationed in a horrifying climate where it’s been brutally hot and is almost always dry and desert-y. My lips have been insanely bad lately, and when I put this on last night just to try it, it was heaven. First, the texture was awesome. I couldn’t stop rubbing my lips together because it felt so good. Secondly, it stayed on for *hours*. It just kept going and going. Thirdly, it actually looks good on. I’ve never really gotten lip balms, truthfully. I need color and I’m more of a lipstick gal. Also, I have full-ish lips so I don’t need tons of help there, but this still makes your lips look pleasantly plump. A very nice effect. Lastly, my lips feel waaaaaay less chapped today. I’m really glad to have found this stuff. I’m sure it will get used for its intended purpose, as I intend to breastfeed for quite awhile, but I’m glad to know about it for lips as well.
I actually ordered the Lansinoh before I realized that this was in one of the presents someone gave me, so I will try that, too and update if that’s better…but it’s hard to imagine how it could be!

I love this product, and cannot live without it!! It is a modified lanolin with beta-glucan, making it much more easy to work with than a 100% lanolin product, like Lansinoh lanolin. I used to be in love with Lansinoh, but since discovering this product, there’s no turning back! The texture of Medela’s is so much smoother and isn’t that sticky, goopy feeling of Lansinoh lanolin. I also don’t detect any unpleasant smell, which is a big plus in my book since I have a very sensitive nose! It is great not only for its intended purpose (to soothe cracked nipples of breastfeeding mothers,) but it is an amazing all around moisturizer for every dry, cracked area of skin you may have. My favorite use is for my lips. It is my ultimate HG lip product. I wear it over my lipstick or lip stains during the day, and wear it as a lip treatment at night. My lips look amazing with this stuff on, and are in the best condition they’ve ever been! I also use this as an under eye moisturizer and for any dry patches on my face, elbows, feet, you name it! For those who don’t like the texture or smell of Lansinoh’s lanolin, but still want the awesome benefits, I highly recommend trying this! It is phenomenal!
