I bought La Bam balm in Fiesta yesterday so this is a first impression review. I like the product other than the strong rose fragrance which thankfully dissipates quickly. It’s pigmented, moisturizing and sheer and comfortable. Not sticky, this balm doesn’t last long but does wear off evenly with a gentle, even stain. I can see myself repurchasing more colors despite the horrible fragrance. (Rose isn’t a fave.) I bought this in combo with the nude pink lip liner to get $2 off the combo at CVS with their card. Great deal, and the liner helps the balm stay on a bit better if I wanted to wear it at work, for instance. I will review the liner separately-it’s a great product for the price. LaBam balm is worth your consideration.

I had the same issue with this as the Wet N Wild balm stains, which is that once the balm wore off, the pigment would dry out my lips to the point of peeling. I tried Fiesta, which looks quite dark in the tube but is really a bright fuschia (like, see-your-lips-from-space bright) and it made me realize that although I love berry and jewel tones, I prefer tinted balms that look more natural and subtle. The color does not wear off gracefully on me and clings to flaky patches and it looks terrible unless I reapply. If you don’t have dry lips, however, I can see this being a nice product to throw on at the last minute.

I’ve tried this in Fiesta and Piñata. These are actual hydrating, intensely pigmented lip balms. I find these such beautiful, balanced colors. Most tinted lip balms are “lightweights” on my coloring, I completely over power them. These manage to add fresh, jewel like tones to my lips. I’m partial to the Fiesta shade, a bright amethyst/rasberry/fuschia hybrid. It’s like instant Photoshop on my coloring. It simultaneously whitens my smile and blur my coloring. The Piñata is a cool toned, light ruby shade. No orange or warm tones. Just a nice, juicy, extremely cool toned, face popping dark bright red. Together they make awesome variations of cool watermelon, bougainvillea, or cool strawberry tones. Just depends on the amount you put of each! The colors of this product is truly K-Beauty inspired, with the colors being sheer, intense, and cool toned. Akin to watercolor pigments. They look even better as you layer them. It becomes prettier and more intense with every layer and look gorgeous and Technicolor-esque as gel blush. The feel of these is juicy and gel like. I found them at CVS. For $4.50 a pop these are a great value for the money and worth a try if you like tinted lip balms but aren’t wimpy with color.

Joah is a CVS exclusive brand that is inspired by Korean Beauty. I am a tinted lip balm junkie and purchased this product in La Bamba (nude) and Fiesta (deep plum). On its own, this feels like a cream lipstick and it’s also opaque. I was not expecting this amount of color payoff from a lip balm! I’m on the fence on how I feel about this because I like tinted lip balm to be “hassle free”, and I think I would need a mirror to apply this since it wears more like lipstick.
My favorite way to wear this is with a chapstick underneath to make it more slick and sheer. Burt’s Bees Strawberry chapstick looks great under both of these (particularly Fiesta – looks like a true berry [not fuschia or pink]) and makes them sheer like I would expect a tinted balm to look. I used a Zinc Oxide chapstick underneath Fiesta and it went more like a muted fuschia berry – still opaque looking because of the zinc, I guess. It’s fun to play around with different chapstiks underneath – but yeah, I wouldn’t wear these on their own because it’s too much color payoff/thickness.
I’m really curious to try other colors in this line. There were two beautiful reds that I think I’ll go back and try. I think this has a lot of potential and I’m interested to see more from this line.
