Laura Mercier lip liner in Redwood to me/on me looks, acts, and behaves like a Rimmel lip liner, but is about 4X the price. Both apply about the same, and both wear about the same for me. Redwood is considerably more product, the Laura Mercier one is much longer of a pencil; but I actually prefer shorter lip pencils, I just find liners that are really long to be slightly awkward. Redwood does go on evenly and smoothly for a pencil that need sharpening, and as that kind of pencil, it can be a little drying and tug a little. In sort, this is just pretty average, performs decently enough, but is not a “wow!” product for me. Would not repurchase and would not recommend. I would say check out the Rimmel lip liners. The Rimmel ones actually apply better/ are smoother for me and are not as drying nor tugging as this Laura Mercier one. I guess I am maybe a little disappointed, especially given the price point, maybe I expected better…? Again, not a terrible product, but there are other similar ones that perform better and are not as pricey. I know some dislike mentioning prices of a product, but when something is pricier, I do expect better performance, not ‘just average,’ which is what this is to me…just average.

I rarely bother with lip liners, but received this as part of a set so I gave it a shot. Redwood is a very natural, slightly brownish red that doesn’t give the dreaded Pam Anderson effect and looks good with lipstick or clear gloss. The color is a bit too warm for me, so if I were to repurchase it would be in a more berry-toned shade. The formula is okay, but I prefer creamier, softer, less-waxy pencils. Those who use lip liners regularly might love this, but for me it’s not great enough to bother adding a new step to my morning routine.
