I actually hate red lipstick. It always makes me feel like Uggo the try too hard clown. And matte is not my favorite finish. But somehow I love this lipstick! It’s literally the only red ever that doesn’t make me feel like I belong in the circus or like I’m cosplaying one of Cinderellas ugly stepsisters. And since the matte is a soft matte it’s not dry, cracking and grotesque looking as long as you don’t start with severely dried out and or chapped lips. Personally I think mattes, even soft ones, and reds look best on fuller lips so I’d probably skip it if your lips are very thin. Other reviewers described the color well and as a red hater I don’t know or care about nuances or undertones of red. I just know I really like how it looks on me, the color is somehow bright but soft and impactful but not garish. I’m very pale with a cool undertone and this is a good red for me apparently. I find this to be great quality for a low price, I know not everyone thinks so about Nyx stuff but these are wayyyyy better than the Too Faced or ABH mattes I’ve tried. It’s also very lasting and smells nice. I have zero complaints about this and I find it really fun that the colors are all named after cities.

Amsterdam is a lovely cherry red, though it is not over-the-top or very in your face. It applies evenly and wears pretty well, and I find that it does leave a bit of a stain behind after it wears off. If I want it to be a bolder, more pin-up red, I pair it with a red liner (like NYX Soft Matte liner in Cherry Skies.) It feels comfortable, but if worn often the Soft Mattes can dry the lips a little bit.
40 out of 40. That’s not surprising, given that I decided to try it out. There are a few tiny bumps which get all too comfortable, but the underlying beauty is top-end comfort. I wore a bright orange under a silver raincoat with a peach lime goatee; the warm fleece got me a little greasy. And then I wore a wide ponytail w/stitching stripes over a floral t-shirt and a finely checkered tulle tulle sleeveless evening dress.
40 out of 40. I’m not a big fan of blue, but I wear blue pretty much everyday. For one, it’s been absolutely wonderful on it’s own. The even intensity of blue here means I can throw it in the mix for those stretchy lace pouches I love, but it’s also easy to opt for so often. The feeling of both got me interested in the color too. I wear blue because I like my ombre pouches to remain the same color over and over. It’s a relaxing blues. After all, the color’s clear and not really too shimmery and messy. On top of that, my myrtle brown satin will keep my nails from rusting. I wore it in a light polka dot pullover and an Apple Chic burgundy-gold suede dress. Pretty color, even, when worn all year. It’s my latest palette I’ve bought and that’s my moment.
40 out of 40. It will make for a good summer pick up. I was expecting this to come in a normal isle, but since I wasn’t showing any reactions as with any other blue palette I’ve tried to forget how nice it is to live on this base for a while. It’s from ‘The Clounardy’ and, considering I’ve worn this for months on end, it really brings to mind the bright sunny clouds that cut through the Milky Way sky in my childhood days. It is great to have an opaque base coat on top to brighten up any streaks from wear; but to give the manicurists and artists who make eye shadows a try can also let us mix in that just when you’re just hitting the nail feeling a bit overbearing, dark.
30 out of 30. Sique? Yes, without an explicit conditioner conditioner. The scent is mostly a late winter tangerine, but it makes it a

NYX’s lip creams are probably my favorite makeup product, period. Amsterdam has great color payoff and a comfortable, light texture. I’ve found that with any of the SMLCs, if you put a tacky layer of balm on before application, it saves your lips from a liquid lipstick-level of drying.
However, I think this is a red more for warm-toned skin. The website describes this as a “pure red,” which made me think it would turn out neutral on my lips. It’s really more orangey, probably in the same color family as MAC’s Lady Danger. Regardless, a fantastic product and beautiful color if you’re down for bright, red-orange lipstick.

This colour is one of the most amazing reds I ever used. I am a NC30-35 for reference. However, as mentioned earlier on this page, the lip cream comes with an user guide. You really have to layer the lip cream, because when first applied, it does not really have colour pay off. Let it dry for five minutes after the first application and than add another layer. It is stunning!

I don’t really wear red lip products. I don’t even wear red clothes. But, I fell in love with NYX soft matte lip cream in Amsterdam. I am Asian, NC 30-35, yellow toned olive skin. I have deeply pigmented lips with cool undertones. But, because my skin is yellow toned, amsterdam’s warm bright orange toned reds work.( I also bought Monte Carlo, a blue based red, in this formulation for reasons below) the stock photo above is not representational of amsterdam IRL.
On my combination skin, this is matte and I do need to apply sparingly over dry but moisturized and exfoliated lips. It lasts longer if I do not put on fresh coat of lip balm underneath. If I am careful to apply thin layers as per advice of one reviewer below and I blot and set in between layers, this lasts 3+ hours with some even wear akin to a matte stain. For additional staying powder, I have done a bit of primer or foundation underneath and a light veil of powder over tissue over this. When I removed this, my lips weren’t dry. It’s not a super obnoxious attention getting red. When applied this way, it’s actually subtle for an orange red. This is not something I recommend touching up in public. If the idea of lip stain is okay with you, the easiest would be to run balm over it to soften the pigment after it’s worn to a stain.
Since I like the formulation and can live with the scent, I also decided to try another red, more blue pink in tone, Monte Carlo. If a red can be natural, Amsterdam looks more natural, Monte Carlo looks more evening. But the MC swatch was more fushia on me than I wanted, so I apply a first thin coat of Amsterdam, blot and then apply a thin coat of Monte Carlo. I only do this for certain occasions. The doe applicator is fine to use if you scrape most of the product off, For the price, both are worth consideration.
I wore two thin layers of this product recently to an event. The lips lasted from 4pm -1130 pm in roughly the same condition through late afternoon activities, cocktails, dinner and and after dinner. By the end of the evening the color had worn evenly into a stain. No reapplication. No special care was taken, although I don’t rub my lips on a napkin. There was no transfer of lip color onto my drinking glass.
Note: unlike the picture above, Amsterdam is an orange toned red IRL, not a pink one. If you want a pink red, try Monte Carlo. The reason why I layer them is because MC when swatched on my hand actually leaned towards the fushia spectrum which I didn’t want.

The colour pay off is amazing. Also how cute is the idea to name the lipcreams by cities?! I love the scent (it smells like candy!), the matt finish and the colour itself is beautiful, even though it is too bright for my taste – but this only a personal preference and doesn’t say much about the product itself. But it fades so easily, if you drink a little bit the whole color flakes away. This is the reason why I won’t buy any of the darker shades, because If I wear a dark/bright lipcolour I want it to stay for a long time on my lips. Still I will buy some of the lighter/nude shades (Athens,London) cause than I wouldn’t mind that much to reapply them….

If you are some one who needs to apply lip balm throughout the day, DO NOT BUY THIS.
Although the pigment in the color offers a rich red which will earn you copious amounts of compliments..
Pros: handy little bottle with a brush applicator, making application less messy. Readily available at a drug store. Color is rich and doesn’t fade easily. Smells delicious.
Cons : Not that cheap, has a drying effect that feels very mousse like but dries out the lips at the same time.

Gosh this is pretty! It’s a cool cherry pink. I first saw a swatch on Pintrest paired with a plum lip liner (Jordana Plush Plum) and I just couldn’t stop thinking about it! The first time I tried these lip creams I was horrified at how dry they were and took them all back. I guess time has gotten me adjusted to matte lips and I find this one to be quite lovely. Overall, a solid purchase for six bucks. Ya’ll be sure to try it with the plum liner…it’s great!
