This lipgloss was suggested to me by the great ladies of MUA as a potential replacement for the long-discontinued Avon 24K Gold “Pink” lipstick.
St. Tropez is more of a mauve gold metallic color than a medium warm pink with gold shimmer like Avon’s 24K Gold Pink lipstick; however, I love it just the same! Typically I’m more of a lipstick kind of gal than a gloss wearer if only because the glosses never seem to have the shelf life of a lipstick (they go bad on me faster). Often, also, I find that lip glosses that contain shimmer or glitter are a let-down because the pigment payoff isn’t there. However, St. Tropez has the added benefit of great pigment. It’s not sticky or gritty like some glosses, either.
The closest lip cosmetic I currently own to this mauve-pink shade with gold metallic is Wet ‘n Wild’s “Dark Pink Frost”, which is a less pigmented version of this color. It’s pretty but on my lips it wears like a MLBB shade. This gloss is definitely more pigmented than even the picture I uploaded with this review suggests.
Alas, it’s not a very good substitute for Avon’s 24K gold lipstick line. Those lipsticks were embedded with genuine gold flakes but managed to feel super smooth. They applied more like a sheer lipstick yet the gold shimmer resembled more of a gloss overlay than the gold metallic that this Anastasia Beverly Hills gloss offers. St. Tropez is a metallic finish, not the more subdued gold glimmer I was after — so it’s not as understated as Avon’s 24K gold lipstick.
Searches online suggest that Avon reintroduced their circa 2010 24K Gold lipstick line to the Philippines and Mexico. As an Avon fan, I don’t know why the company has not made a nude, pink and red shade as a permanent part of their “True Color” collection. IMHO, gold-finish options should be available year-around for those of us with warm or olive skin tones that are not flattered by the far more typical cool white pearl or silver glitter/frosts that are added to some sheer and satin-finish lipsticks. Avon’s 24K Gold lipsticks managed to be hydrating without the gritty feel that I’m finding in the likes of L’Oreal’s “Gold Addiction” series, which is the closest thing on the market that I’ve found in 2019 to what Avon once sold. So, in conclusion, while I would definitely repurchase this St. Tropez lip gloss, it’s not the dupe I was hoping for.

I received a sample of this from a past Sephora purchase. Beautiful color for any season and makes my thin lips look bigger. It’s a rosy color with some bronze tones. I apply Charlotte Tilbury’s lip liner in “Pillowtalk” first. Then I apply a thin layer of “St. Tropez” and I’m good to go. Excellent staying power and very little transfer. Holds up well for work days and no need to touch up frequently. Decent price and I plan on purchasing the full size product when my sample runs out.
