The previous reviewers already described the beauty of this highlighter/illuminizer duo very well, and without a doubt the two shades in the luxe mirrored compact with the signature gold rim are stunning. Naturally, these shades will look great on lighter or medium toned neutral to warm skin tones. As it is often a challenge to find products that also look good on cool leaning complexions I do want to emphasize that this is also a great choice for my very light NW15 skin. The highlighter is very subtle and neutral in color and also the darker shade Candlelight is not too warm, is more of a neutral beige gold, and it does not pull orange on my skin. Yes, $80 is quite a splurge for this gem, however, it performs really well in giving my face a soft glow and subtle contour. There is a lot of product .42oz/12g, that is even more than in the Tom Ford eye shadow quads, so this compact should last years. But if I had to, I would definitely repurchase.

Last year I didn’t get a chance for the limited edition Tom Ford highlighter and blush duos (Stroked and Softcore) and this year when I saw this one I just had to have it, it was a question of principle I might say.
This sells for an exorbitant price so if you’re going to make the whole “do I need this?” line of questioning I’ll answer it straight away, no you really don’t. Not because it’s not a good product mind you, actually it’s an amazing product with a texture very similar to the Estée Lauder Gelées and this does exactly what it advertises, it gives a highlight. Is it groundbreaking? Is it the best thing since sliced bread? No, so let’s begin. The lighter shade on top is called daylight (I think) and it’s a pearlescent white. I have to say that it is beautiful in the pan but it is VERY subtle on your skin. I was hoping that it was a powder version of the highlight cream on the Shade and Illuminate duo alas it is not and it’s a shame because that’s the most beautiful highlighter I have ever used but don’t like to wear it on top of powder foundations (and I’m currently wearing the new Tom Ford foundation). But it it attracts light and gives dimension to your face and I like it, I just don’t like the price it has on. This shade is supposed to be for daytime.
The other tone is slightly warmer pink/bronzy with a silver sheen called Candlelight and it’s supposed to be for night time. I was a bit scared when I looked at it in the pan seeming a bit too warm for my complexion but when topped with a powder blush the color is ever so subtle that it doesn’t alter the color of my blush, the metallic sheen is much more evidence so while you have to pack on the day color quit a bit for it to reflect you need to be very subtle with the Candlelight shade or it will give you robot realness. I also stay away from any areas of my face that have evident pores because this shade will enhance them immensely.
All in all it’s not a holy grail of highlighters, it’s a good product in a chic elegant package with a HUGE mirror which makes it very convenient for travel (one of the reasons I bought it) and I’m pretty it will last me a long time. It’s an extravagance and something I’d only advise someone to purchase if they really like Tom Ford or want to indulge in a product that’s very expensive as a treat.

I usually have troubles with highlighters, as I get super oily real quick. So even though I love the concept, I’ve learned to steer clear over the years. But I was blown away by how beautiful this looks and I could NOT walk away from the counter without it. I am quite fair (NC20) thus I use the lighter shade as classical highlighter. It. Is. Amazing. It love the highlighter cream in TF’s shade and illuminate 1 and I wouldn’t have believed that a powder would mange to provide the same effect. This does! So if you love that cream, but prefer using powders instead, the lighter shade might justify buying this all by itself. I still have to play around to figure out how to use the darker shade. So far I’ve used it as a blush and that worked quite good, but it is very shimmery obviously. I thought about taking off one lippie because to me it seems kind of strange to combine these two powders in a palette. I can’t imagine the person who gets equally good use out of both colors. I tried to wear this on my eyes, as I use Charlotte Tilbury as my favorite travel palette, since I use it for both complexion and eyes. This looked good on eyes, but it gave me the slightest bit of blurry vision on one eye (I have contacts). I applied it in a rush, so I’m not sure if it transferred or if I’d simply brushed it directly into my eyes. But it didn’t sting or anything. So all in all I’ll probably use this on eyes too, specially the darker shade.
