The past year I’ve bought tens of highlighters, but this one is the baby I love the most.
First of, pan is big! You get a lot for your money. The formula is not like the setting powder, but buttery in a non creamy way.
The coulour Albatross is pearly golden og NW20 skin, and Capri is champange/rosegold.
What I love the most is that it gives the skin a wet dewy look, non glittery.

INTRO first of all let me explain my situation, I am someone who HATES the look of highlighters. ive tried cream to liquid to powders from all different brands and never found anything that looks better than Capri by Nars.
COMPARISONS I even hated the Hollywood Flawles FIlter by CT. It accentuated my pores aand made me look greasy. Mac Cream Color Base in Hush was a good one but it dissapears after 1 hour. Becca Champagne pop was too heavy and shimmery. Dior Air luminizer was a gelee hardpan formula(the worst) that had obvious shimmers and is really hard to pick up product. Laura Mercier Baked highlight 01- too natural but its my 2nd favorite but, packaging too bulky and its a candle lit glow from within type of highlighter. Mary loumanizer – this one is okay but I dont like the undertone, a bit too yellow.
COLOR – Now onto my HG highlighter Capri. Capri is described as pink crushed pearls but I don’t find it to look pink at all on my skin. It blends to my skin seamlessly and gives me a wet but natural Sheeny glow. Fort de France is a great shade as well for light medium warm skintones. It is the perfect champagne that has a mix of gold and peach, but on me it looks more gold and leans more yellow.
TEXTURE – some say this is a hard formula but i have to dissagree. it reminds me of a smooth cream but in powder form. it does not feel stiff or like a gelee formula that i hate. I use Anastasia Beverly Hills a23 brush which is natural hairs and picks up a perfect amount of products.. theres no kick up but might look like it can hardpan easily but it isn’t unmovable
WEAR AND TEAR – lasts all day and looks super natural. no shimmer and no glitter at all. it does not give you that pasty stripe or look obvious but still enough to show up. its not a candlelit soft glow its more of a sheen that can be build up to an intense wetness. the base of the powder seems to be transparent so it doesnt give you that obvious powdery stripe and does not accentuate texture or pores.
Edit- my skin has been getting drier and I find this to look chalky and scaley, like lizard skin on me now. So sad. If you dont have problems with texture I feel this will be great wet sheen. I went back to using Laura Mercier Baked Highlight because it looks more smooth.

Good highlight, however gets hard pan quite quickly – check out the testers at Sephora. Gives you that wet/dewy look, but doesn’t last long

I have been excited to try this since I saw it advertised a few months back. I watched every video I could find about it. I even got a Sonia G fan brush number 2 to try it with. I finally purchased this highlighter in Capri. It doesn’t swatch the best but you can still see the color, very golden with a hint of pink. It feels quite firm in the pan but all my brushes I’ve tried with it pick up product easily and I’ve had no hard pan. It’s a huge pan of highlighter and a solid compact, more square than NARS usual but still rubberized (which I personally dislike because it’s so hard to clean).
So here’s the dealbreaker for me. I cannot get this to look good on my skin. I’ve tried every brush I can think of and it doesn’t help. On my foundation or straight on skin it looks patchy and emphasizes texture very badly, texture I didn’t think I had! I do have acne but not on my cheekbones. It looks chunky and almost splotchy. So I tried powdering under and it doesn’t adhere to the skin at all. I noticed the reviewer before me mentioned this problem if her skin was tacky at all before applying. I believe this to be my problem. I do let my face lotion set as long as I can before putting on foundation but I typically don’t wait long between foundation applying highlighter. And I don’t have that kind of time to fuss with a highlighter. Especially after I discovered an exact dupe in my collection which goes on smooth and glowy and gorgeous with ease. I have the new Makeup Forever highlight that mix and match in the palettes in H102 is almost a dead on dupe for Capri. It swatches better so in the swatch it’s more opaque and pink. On the face Capri looks quite gold and H102 is slightly less golden but I think it’s because it blends out smoothly and Capri bunches up so much.
This highlighter breaks my heart. I was so excited for it. But it just does not work for my skin.
Edit 5/1/18 so I tried this a few more times. I did get it to work on top of a matte foundation that wasn’t powdered (maybelline superstay) and it looked really lovely. I still think it’s finicky and that the MUFE 102 is a better choice but I did get it to apply like it should finally. I’m not changing my rating due to how persnickety this is but I wanted to advise on application technique if you are set in getting it. Oh, and I ended up using the Sigma F03. It’s my new favorite highlight brush and it worked well with this one. I actually did not like the Sonia G sculpt two with highlighters-it was too big for my face.

After watching Mariah Leonard’s “Wet Look/Glossy Highlighters” Youtube video and hearing how she described this highlighter, I really wanted to try it out for myself. So I purchased it as soon as I could and tried it out for a week. The colour I purchased is “Fort de France”, a pale gold that is only slightly rosy. It is darker and more golden than Becca’s SSP Pressed in “Moonstone”, but is lighter and a lot less rosy compared to Becca’s SSP Pressed in “Opal”. It is definitely lighter and less golden compared to Becca’s SSP Pressed in “Prosecco Pop”. For your reference, I don’t wear foundation so I used this on bare moisturized skin, and my skin tone is around NC20 in depth.
The texture of this highlighter is nice and smooth to the touch, but it feels slightly firmer and not as creamy compared to the Becca highlighters that I have. It is only slightly less shimmery and is definitely more sheen-like (glossy and reflective). If I look up close I do notice the very fine shimmer, but not from half a meter away (same with the Becca highlighters). I’ve tried applying this with two different highlighting brushes: a wispy fan brush (the old Laura Mercier Fan Brush) and a denser, fluffier dome brush (Sephora Collection PRO Highlight Brush #98). It’s easy to blend out with either brush. I can achieve a natural highlight or a very glossy/wet highlight with both brushes (with minimal/close to no emphasizing of texture) but if built up too much, “Fort de France” is definitely noticeable on my skin due to its golden hue. That isn’t a bad thing, but people can tell that your glow is from a golden highlighter, not from “within”. It lasts 7+ hours on my combination skin. If you care about cost/gram: this highlighter costs $3.60 CAD/gram, while Becca SSPPs cost $6.57 CAD/gram.
Note: This highlighter can look patchy and be hard to blend out if I don’t wait for my skincare to fully absorb (I realized this one morning while applying it half-asleep). Slightly tacky skin is a no-go (but again, duh, this is a powder). I don’t find that I have the same problem with Becca’s SSP Pressed in “Moonstone” though, but maybe it is because “Moonstone” is only a bit lighter than my skin so I don’t notice the patchiness (if there is any).
The packaging is made of NARS’s iconic black, soft-touch rubberized material. The compact is slim but is sturdy with a very nice mirror on the inside. It is easier to open than Becca’s SSP compacts.
Overall this is a good, solid highlighter. If you are into the glowy, golden goddess look then you’ll probably like this. Do you need to run out and purchase it ASAP? No, definitely not. I don’t think that I will purchase this again.

So after playing around with this highlighter for a few more days as well as examining it closely from different angles, I’m starting to love it more and more. I just want to reiterate that this is so glowy and beautiful! “Fort de France” might’ve knocked Becca’s SSP Pressed in “Moonstone” out of its Holy Grail spot in my makeup routine. I’m going to change my stance on this highlighter from “will not repurchase” to “repurchase – especially when there’s a sale”. I still don’t think that you need to run out and buy this ASAP, but if you are really debating whether or not to get this, you should go to a store and swatch it in person. A small warning though, it looks mediocre swatched with fingers, so if you have the chance to try it on your face I highly suggest you do so.
