Because I tend to follow Redwings 11’s purchases like a shadow, when I saw this at Shoppers last week (alas, not for the sale price she paid but for regular price, otherwise I might have grabbed it anyway), I figured I would swatch the counter-sample and, if it was really nice, purchase it anyway on “seniors’ day”. I finger-swatched this quite heavily on the side of my hand and on my wrist (closer to the colour of my face) and saw….NOTHING – absolutely nothing. I figured I’d take a 2nd look when I went outside and then I’d see a nice glow in the natural light of a bright, sunny day but, again – nothing at all. I think that if it had been discounted as Redwings 11’s was, I’d have bought it anyway but at full price, it was easy to walk away from this. If I do find it marked down, I’d probably buy it to use to set my under-eye concealer but as a “strobing/glow” product, it was surprisingly, almost disappointingly, subtle.

I got this for $5 in the clearance section at SDM and what a steal this is. The packaging is very compact, solid magnetic closure and the tiny curved brush it comes with is surprisingly soft and useful. The “snap” when you close the compact gives such a satisfying click I find myself opening and closing it a few times with every use, just to experience it. Silly, yeah, I know. The shade is called “Universal Glow” which is a pale champagne that does not contain glitter, rather it imparts that glowy sheen that is similar to essence “pure nude” highlight, it’s subtle but definitely there. If you enjoy an ethereal quality and not a straight up blinding highlight then you would probably enjoy this very much. Lasting power is good, the highlight is still apparent on my skin when I remove my makeup at the end of the day. The one thing I really don’t care for in this product is the fragrance. It smells like powdered roses, and not in a pleasant way but the good thing is that unless you are purposely trying to inhale the product the scent isn’t all that detectable. I can overlook the scent since I don’t stick my nose in it and to be honest, the packaging is so adorable I can’t help myself from endorsing this.
