I bought this product awhile ago but didn’t use it much at first because I figured it would take longer and using a spray dry shampoo would be quicker. Now I can see that I was wrong. Not only is this form of dry shampoo quicker but it’s also more effective. It is pricey but most dry shampoo are (with exception of a few good ones). I’m not saying spray versions are bad, they are also great but using this is much more time efficient. Reasons: you don’t need to wait for the product to dry like spray versions, just put alittle in your hand/hair, rub it in and your good to go. They also soak into your hair better while some spray versions are harder to get rid of the white color. Also just like the spray versions, these come in different colors. The smell is amazing. Also I find my hair feels cleaner after using this as opposed to one in a spray bottle and this last a lot longer.
It can be alittle messy but not as messy as I thought it would be. Just alittle on my face and ears, none on my clothes.

I’ve tried a few dry shampoos, and I don’t like them. tresemme just didn’t cut it, neither did got 2 be or batiste. They all dried out my hair like straw I’m assuming because of the alcohol content. I found batiste barely even abosorbed oil! Just made my hair smell good.
Enter this delightful powder from cake! I’m in love with this. There is no alcohol or spraying so it doesn’t dry my hair out at all. It actually saves me time if I’m in a rush – All I do is rub the powder into sections of my scalp and it totally absorbs the oils, makes my hair feel clean again and smells really great. I don’t even care that it is expensive, it works for me so I will buy it again 🙂 If you have tried the spray dry shampoos and didn’t like them this is for you.

This was the first dry shampoo I tried, and there are certainly better ones. But I do LOOOVE this product. To echo the reviewer two reviews down, the product is expensive for what it is but I really, really love the scent. Compared to other dry shampoos that come in a spray can (e.g. Klorane), Satin Sugar takes more time to apply and *probably* requires you to use more product, it’s less effective at “cleaning” especially oily hair, and it doesn’t do TOO much in the way of adding volume. However, it did make my second and third day hair look pretty clean and refreshed, and smell so wonderful that I always got compliments. And, really, a little does go a long way. I only bought the little sample/travel size at Sephora and it lasted me over a year (not necessarily regular use, but semi-regular). I shook a little into my palms and just ran my hands through my hair to “comb” it through, and repeated as many times as necessary. Sometimes I would sprinkle it directly on my scalp and brush it out, but I do think you tend to get better results using the hand method- I generally had more success making the product “disappear” into my hair with my hands. Once it was “combed” through I had no issues with product visibility (I used the light version on my blonde hair- not sure about the dark version).
I would buy the product again, but I think I would always have another, better, spray-can dry shampoo on hand too. I would use Satin Sugar again either a) On second-day hair that isn’t especially greasy or covered in product, still fairly clean but in need of refreshment, or b) In conjunction with a different (unscented!) dry shampoo for the scent benefits. 🙂 Cake now has a spray-on volumizing Satin Sugar dry shampoo, intended to be used either alone or with the original powder… I am intrigued. It will probably be a while before I try it though.
Oh and p.s., I HAVE used this product as a body powder on my shoulders/collarbone/décolletage and I love it for that as well. It’s a nice, delicious, light scent and it leaves your skin feeling silky!

Though I rated the product a 3/5, it’s more to do with the product vs. price than anything else. I LOVE this product, both for the effects and the scent, but I can achieve almost identical results with plain corn starch, which is a ton cheaper. However, I’m a sucker for sweet-smelling anything, so I grab this once in awhile when I have a coupon or discount code. The only thing I would change about the product itself is the packaging, maybe into a wide jar with a sifter. I usually use a brush to apply the product, and the way it is now, I have to shake it out into something, then use it.
I’ve found multiple uses for this, but like I said, I can usually use cornstarch for the same things and get similar results, minus the scent.
1) On hair. One of the things it’s marketed for, and it does it quite well. I sprinkle this in my roots, work through a little with my fingers, let sit a few minutes, then brush out thoroughly with a dense brush. It’s not going to FEEL like freshly washed and dried hair, and it obviously actually isn’t cleaning your hair, but it’s nice to have for emergencies or for times when you’re unable/can’t wash and dry your hair, as it gets rid of the greasy LOOK. I have blond hair, so after I brush it off, I don’t notice a white cast, but I could see this being a problem for darker-haired people. When I used to dye my hair dark brown, I couldn’t use it. Though it works well, it achieves about the same results for me as baby powder, cornstarch or, when my hair was dark, cocoa powder, believe it or not.
2) Mattifying powder. If you don’t mind heavily-scented things on your face, this works just as good as any mattifying powder I’ve ever used. I apply it like I would any loose powder, and it definitely helps keep the grease at bay, similar to how it does on hair.
3) Deodorant. I’ve come across mineral and powder deodorants before, so one day I gave it a try. I’m usually a rather heavy sweater, so I don’t use it on its own for during the day. After I apply my regular deodorant, I pat this overtop. I’ve definitely noticed a reduction in moisture under there. The downside is, is WILL tend to leave white marks, like many deodorants do, so keep that in mind if trying it. I also like to use this at night after I shower as a deodorant on it’s own. Might be weird applying deodorant to sleep in, but I like the smell and it just feels cleaner.
4) Odor/moisture control in shoes. This is a godsend for my work shoes. They’re sneaker-style and I always wear socks with them, but when you’re working outside in 100 degree weather for up to 8 hours at a time, anything that helps is nice. I use cheap insoles to prolong the life of my shoes (I find even a thin insole keeps me from wearing out the actual sole of my shoe as fast), so I sprinkle a little of this between the regular sole and the insole, then a little on top of the insole. I don’t feel it because I have socks on, but it makes my feet feel drier by the end of the day. I’m sure you could use it with bare feet as well, like any other foot powder.
These are a few of the uses I’ve found for the Cake powder and similar products. I love it, but as the results are generally dupeable, albeit scent-fee, for much cheaper, I found it hard to rate it any higher than 3/5 because of the cost, how much product you get for the price, and the packaging. Good to buy for the novelty of the scent, but certainly not a necessary purchase.

I wanted to use this product a few times before I reviewed it. I’ve used it about five times now, and I love it a little more each time. I chose the darker option, thinking it would be closest to my hair colour (red), but I worried that it might end up looking ashy at my roots. Luckily, I had no such problem.
Once upon a time, I used to wash my hair EVERY DAY. I had no idea I was damaging it by doing so. I have very fine hair, so even the smallest amount of oil from sweat/product/whatever would make my hair look greasy and gross. Washing it was the only way I knew how to get rid of the oil buildup. Finally I asked my hair stylist why my hair seemed to be so split-end prone, and she said a combination of crappy quality shampoo and washing my hair too much was the problem. So I started buying John Freida (formula for red hair) and this dry shampoo to keep my hair clean between washes. This stuff is AMAZING. I haven’t had to travel with it yet, so I can’t speak for anyone else who may have had a mess on their hands, but to apply it I just dump a good sized amount (maybe a tablespoon or a bit less) into my palm and use a wide make-up brush to apply it to my roots and ends. It smells so nice (like candy!) and makes my hair look freshly washed and shiny. Love love love it. Would definitely recommend.

I have a lot of dry shampoos and volumizing powders, which I primarily use to give my super-straight, fine hair body. This is by far my favorite hair powder, though it doesn’t add as much volume as many others. It smells WONDERFUL, is very fine, and has micro gold glitter that I can really only see in the air when I shake my hair out after application. I have a lot of gold in my light brown/dark blond hair and this really makes it shine, shine, shine. I had this in my hair a few days ago when my sister-in-law came to visit and commented (for the first time in over 20 years) that she loved my hair color. it never makes my scalp feel gooey or chalky as similar products sometimes do. I wish it were a little more travel-friendly, but that is my only complaint. I’m going to order the version for dark hues next and will update my review with the results! Update 3/2/13: I now have the dark hue version and I love it. It’s actually not very dark, so it works really well for my light ash brown hair. No sparkles in this one, either. These are currently my favorite hair powders.

AMAZING! Hands down, my favourite beauty product. I couldn’t find a picture of the lighter hues powder, but I use this one and it’s saved my life more times than I can tell you. I have very thick, fine hair that takes ages to dry and since I colour it, I try to avoid washing it a lot as it gets dry. I can easily get three days wear between shampoos and my hair still looks great. If I sleep in late, I just ponytail it in the shower and style as usual. Hair is done in 5:) I do agree that the product does not travel well. I get around that by putting it in a ziploc bag and shaking the stuff from the bag on my hair or brush.

This is my HG hair powder. I’ve repurchased this three times already. I love that it comes in a dark hue. The packaging is messy and I usually put it in a ziplock bag if I’m bringing it along on a trip, but otherwise I love it. I found that the powder would cling to my scalp, feeling uncomfortable and also noticeable, so I prefer to shake out some powder into my hands and then toss it into my hair – focussing on my bangs first and then adding some into the roots. This helps to soak up the oil and create more volume in my hair. I like the scent and my boyfriend always comments on how good my hair smells when I use it.

I love the smell and it works pretty well for absorbing oil because it’s powder. My only real complaint is that I can’t really travel with it since the packaging isn’t sealed very well and I’m sure product would go everywhere if not packed very well. For the price, I’d expect the packaging not to be so cheap.
In any case, if you’re just going to use it at home, it’s definitely the best one I’ve tried so far.
