Since the last review they have definitely changed the packaging, and then possibly the formula. Nonetheless, the product in the second photos is the one I am reviewing.
This is an amazing hair serum, the best I have ever tried (and I have tried everything from Paul Mitchell to Neutrogena)! It’s a bit pricey, but for the amount of product, it’s a great value. Note: this is NOT a heat-protectant product at all and is not advertised as such.
The best time to use the serum is when you hair is 75% dry…damp, but you can still run your fingers through it. Use one pump for medium length hair and two for long hair, and apply it mid-shaft to the ends before combing it through.
As your hair dries, it’ll feel incredibly soft, shiny and smooth!
I love this serum soooo much it as worked wonders for my thin, straight, dry, color-treated hair and makes it look newly-grown! Just be sure to use a clarifying shampoo every now and then to clear out any residue.

I wanted to love this so bad. Pureology is a great brand and I’ve had so much success with the Hydrate Shampoo, Conditioner, and the Colour Fanatic leave in to help moisturize my hair and get it healthy. I purchased the ShineMax serum to add into my routine and while my hair looked fantastic for about 5 minutes after I blow dried it as I usually do, 5 minutes after it looked drier than ever- so dry that I got comments on how dry my hair was/how dry it looked! Ugh no! I tried it a few more times in dry hair and in damp hair again and each time it just dried my hair out. I’m going to return this back to Ulta. This just does NOT work for me. =(

This is a shine serum with a very pleasing fragrance. It is not the best, nor is it the worst. Middle of the road for a product that costs above average. It makes my hair shiny and I feel it offers a little protection from the flat iron – so do a lot of other products in this category. Would I buy it again? Probably not, though it wasn’t bad, I would look to see if there was something better. This product did leak out of its bottle in my travel cop kit even though the cap was on super tight. Be sure to store this product upright.

Ok, when will I EVER found a anti-frizz/shine product that tames my frizzy hair? I’ve tried so many products and serums like this and this is just another disappointment. Might work for some hairtypes but if your hair’s like mine -colored, semi-straight with natural waves, coarse, thick and alot of it- this is not for you. Gives some shine, that’s all.A biglet down since I’ve been in total awe for other Pureology products.

I buy this time and time again even though t is pretty pricey… It’s the only serum that actually makes my dry brittle hair appear healthy–ish.
I love when I find this at winners–I stock up. I highly recommend it… It’s HG for me

Pureology -Shine Max
My hair type is thick with a natural wave. Non-colored.
Here’s my review:
Texture: Thin gloss in consistency. I wouldn’t mind it being a little bit thicker but the texture works well.
Finish: Hair is shiny without being slick.
Performance: I use it in morning and lasts the day. I don’t use alot of it so it lasts for a long time.
Odor: clean smell.
Cost: Middle to high end.

My rating scale is: EXCELLENT, GOOD, FAIR AND POOR
Overall rating for this product: EXCELLENT.
I think this is a very good hair styling product and I’ve tried a fair amount.

I was first skeptical of this Shinemax because I thought it would be like any other: heavyweight, clusters the hair together, greasy looking, and looks bad the next day. I was wrong! my hairstylist used it on me and after I went home, i noticed how shiny my blonde highlights were! I normally dont’ use shine serum on blonde highlights because most of them gave me the negative looks described above. This product is lightweight, gave me incredible softness, and smooths my damaged split ends. I only used 2 drops and that’s plenty! my strands still feel separated, which gave me more body, and my white highlights look so healthy and strong!

LOVE this product. It makes my colored hair shiny and soft, and it smells great without be heavy in any way. It doesn’t weigh down my hair at all and really helps smooth down any stray frizzies! LOVE IT!

I love this stuff! I would absolutely give shinemax a 5 rating, but I took one off just because it’s so expensive. But I WILL buy again (and again and again) because I think that this may be one of the only products that I can tell a big difference between when I use this and when I don’t.
I have dry, damaged, bleached out hair, and while I’ve been happy with other shine serums, this one makes my hair SOO soft and shiny…much more than any other. My hair is a totally different texture once I put a little bit in. I’d highly recommend this to anyone with dried out, fragile hair who wants it super soft and shiny!
