   For the reference, Olaplex doesn’t work for me, it makes my hair extremely frizzy and unhealthy looking for about 10 days. I do notice long term benefits, but I can’t cope with looking like ???? for 10 days.
   Redken pH Bonder is a whole another story. It makes my hair shiny, super smooth, and cuts down the frizz. If I color with Redken Chromatics (ammonia-free Redken color) without using pH bonder my hair looks like a straw. pH Bonder gives me healthy looking hair with no downsides. Using pH Bonder Post-Service Perfector every week makes my aging hair feels 15 years younger and like it hasn’t been colored. Love it!

   I decided to try this after seeing this at Ulta. I have never tried Olapex. I don’t believe this is exactly a dupe in my opinion, however it makes my hair feel super soft and it looks shiny and healthy. I made sure to follow the directions and I like that it stays on the hair without dripping down my neck or unto my clothes. Not much of a scent either. It rinsed away nicely and I follow with any shampoo and conditioner. It comes in a tube which makes application easy for me too. When my hair needs a boost, I reach for this.

   This is a post chemical service treatment that claims to help maintain hair’s natural ph. It’s supposed to be used once a week. It’s applied to unwashed towel dried hair from roots to ends and left on for at least 10 minutes. You then follow with shampoo and conditioner.

   I’ve used this product twice, each time leaving it on for about 30 minutes. I don’t know whether this treatment is supposed to mimic Olaplex, which is a disulfide bond multiplier and a patented product that several companies have tried to reverse engineer (and are now being sued by Olaplex of course). My hair is quite fragile and has been subjected to coloring, bleaching and regular heat styling. I use Olaplex weekly and therefore have not had any breakage and my colorist also uses it so I think my hair is in rather good condition, all things considered. But there’s always room for improvement. This Redken Ph Bonder was recommended on the hair board so I decided I needed to try it. One of the problems with damaged hair is the acidic ph level so anything designed to normal these levels is a good thing I think. I do use a leave in conditioner (Salerm Biomarine) that normalizes ph levels and does a really nice job of keeping my hair smooth and frizz free and hopefully strong. But this Redken product sounded like something that would be beneficial as well. The effects are obviously supposed to last for a week, otherwise more frequent use would be recommended.

   The two times I used this product, I followed the directions to the letter and like I said, left it on for about 30 minutes each time. However, when all was said and done and my hair was shampooed and conditioned and thoroughly dry, this product made no obvious difference. The s/c I used always leaves my hair soft and shiny and this time was no different. The Redken Ph Bonder had no effect as far as the look of my hair goes nor did it have any effect on the way my hair felt. I did use a generous amount each time, more so perhaps the second time in an attempt to get better results, but this made no impact at all either time. The person who initially recommended this product on the hair board, was raving about how good it was and what a significant difference it made. However, I had no such results. I don’t know whether it couldn’t penetrate the silicone that’s in my usual serum and styling products (Olaplex can’t penetrate silicone so you need to use a clarifying shampoo first). So the second time, I applied it to hair that had been washed with a clarifying formula just so I could see if there was any difference. There was none. The labeling on the tube makes very few claims, only saying that the product normalizes ph levels. I’m not sure what results I’m supposed to have seen. Does it make hair smoother? Less frizzy? Stronger? If it’s supposed to make hair stronger, it’s hard to gauge whether this is true or not. I suppose if you’re experiencing breakage, less breakage would be a sure sign. But I don’t have an issue with breakage, thanks to regular Olaplex treatments, so no real difference was apparent with this Redken product. No effects at all were apparent. So this product was a total waste of money. Perhaps because I use Olaplex weekly, this Redken product was not effective, I don’t know. But there’s absolutely no reason for me to keep this product and to continue to use it. So I’m returning it to Ulta.

   This is not a bad review per se. I’m only saying that this product didn’t do anything at all for me. If you don’t use Olaplex regularly, perhaps it make some difference for you. The person who originally posted a rave review of this Redken Ph Bonder was thrilled with the results. Maybe it truly is a great product. Of course, not every product works for everyone. I like the idea of this product and that it helps restore the proper Ph level. But for me, it had no effect at all so I can’t recommend it. If the Redken Ph Bonder is supposed to replicate the results of Olaplex, it failed to do so. But perhaps if it’s used immediately after a chemical service (color, bleach, perming, straightening treatment) it does return the hair to the proper ph level. But if I look solely at the effects of this product, I have to honestly say it made absolutely no difference whatsoever. This is why it’s going back to Ulta. I will say that the Redken Extreme Strength Builder mask (in the blue jar) is an incredible product. It combines a protein treatment for strength with a deeply hydrating treatment, a hybrid if you will, that saves a step in the three step regimen of Olaplex, protein and moisture. It leaves my hair strong and nourished and soft and shiny. It’s quickly become a HG product for me so I highly recommend it. I also like Redken Cleansing Cream shampoo, which is a strong sulfate clarifying formula that gets hair super clean, removing all buildup with ease. I don’t use it very often because it has sulfates but when I have an extreme amount of dry shampoo or styling product residue, this shampoo removes it all. I do leave it on for about 5 minutes though, which seems to work better than immediately rinsing it out. It does tend to be drying so I use a very hydrating conditioner afterward and that remedies the situation. So I do like a couple of Redken products, just not the Ph Bonder. There are far better products for normalizing ph levels and Salerm Biomarine (on Amazon) is a good one. Salerm is a Spanish brand new to the US. I’ve tried several of their products and like each one a lot. The Salerm 21 protein leave in is really awesome as is the Termo Activo thermal setting spray.

   I guess I’m rather hard on hair products. But they have to perform in an outstanding manner for me to truly recommend them. The Redken Ph Bonder sucks, there’s no two ways about it. If you use Olaplex, I wouldn’t waste your money. If you want to normalize ph levels after a chemical service, use the Salerm Biomarine leave in cond
