I received a sample of this from a magazine insert and was able to get about four or five uses. I actually didn’t pay attention to what brand it was before cutting the sample out from the postcard. I don’t usually spend much time on my fine hair or focus on hair products.
There were suggestions for how many drops needed for your hair type. Though I had only a sample, it was a quite a quality sample. What? Usually with samples, there’s a groove on the side of the sample where you are supposed to rip from, but that usually leaves a large opening. Depending on what the sample product is being dispensed, this could get messy or you waste a bit of the product if it is a liquid/oil & not a cream. I’ve learned to never use that groove to open a sample and just cut the tip of a corner. They made the pouch with a smaller/narrow neck section to control the amount of product that comes out. It’s also manufactured in a way so you can squeeze the product out in controlled drops. The detail & thought put into even just a sample… quality.
I like how the oil didn’t weight my hair down too much or didn’t look greasy. I used this on wet and dry hair. I recently found that applying oils to wet hair is quite effective to providing a naturally silky texture. There is a scent, though I can’t distinguish what it is since it dissipates rather quickly. I honestly don’t know the difference between different oils for hair, but according to Beauty Blitz, Marula oil has 16% more antioxidants. (
I liked this product enough to check out how much it is & where to buy it. I have only used a few oils in my hair – Josie Maran Argan Oil, DHC Olive Oil (usually use this for face, but tried it on hair), & a few other random ones not worth remembering. At $35-$40/1.7oz., for me it’s a little bit of a luxury, but at the same time, you don’t really need to use that much of the product so it lasts awhile. It’s vegan & paraben free if that’s what you fancy. For comparison, Drunk Elephant’s Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil is $72/1 oz. Josie Maran’s argan oil is $48/1.7oz and marketed as used for both skin & hair, which is convenient for travel.
I can see myself picking this up as a treat if I was at the store. I’m pretty sure the beautiful packaging will lure me in and if it’s on sale or if I can use a coupon (especially at Ulta), why not? After seeing the effects of adding oils to my damp hair rather than dry hair, I feel like I’ve been missing out and I think it’s time for me to sample more oils on my hair!
