This product can lighter your hair for sure, but it can cost you your hairs! I was using this spray not really often and followed all the rules when using it. Finally I noticed my hair become demaged. They become really dry and started to break. Later I saw I have lot of short hair near my roots. Luckily I sprayed only highlights but not all my hair! And I’m afraid even to think what would be happened if I had spray all my hair. I stopped to use it and now my hair getting better but still lot of shorter hairs left. Also my hairs grown a bit already and you can see the contrast of the colors. The hair which I sprayed are lighter, and a bit yellow 🙁 I can’t go to the salon to have my hair dyed because they are in bad condition, so I have to wait until they grow and repair. If you thinking to use it or no I advise you not to use it if you don’t want to make a demage to your hair. I hope manufactorer will change the ingredients of this spray and make it less harmful to hair.

So I am a frequent DIYer when it comes to hair, but I don’t shy away from real salon products and I am not afraid of “real bleach” etc. I am definitely of the opinion that it is always a chemical process to get “blonder.” Picking drugstore stuff with the assumption that it’s more gentle or somehow makes you less “fake” is a fallacy. HOWEVER, used correctly (in moderation, with lots of conditioners and allowing for time for the hair to rest & repair) this stuff is LEGIT. Through a combination of DIY and salon processing I had taken my naturally honey (read : dark) blonde hair up too many levels and had ugly, noticeable roots, and this stuff has SAVED me. I really didn’t want to waste time at the salon getting a “root smudge” or whatever, and 2 easy treatments with this spray have left my hair looking very natural and pretty. My advice- only use it a couple of times, but REALLY use it. Apply a lot of product and plenty of heat. Then WASH IT OUT and condition your hair. I never understand why people take a cheap, drying product and leave it on for hours. Anyway, drench your roots, heat it up, then do a moisture-rich treatment. One or 2 times will do the trick and you will likely be very pleased with the results. I’m confident I’ve saved myself at least $300, probably more.

I brought this product 5 months ago. I used it consistently after I washed my hair for around 3 and a half months. However a few months people started commenting on how it looked almost ginger. I started to notice it myself. I started to use it less and less before completely stopping the use of it last month. The worst part was that ever since I started using it my hair has been noticeabley getting thinner and thinner. I now have less hair than ever and feel very self-conscious. It’s going to take years to reverse the damage that just 3 and half months use of this product has caused. Do not buy it.

Truly awful. This spray turned my healthy medium-blonde hair into a brassy, damaged mess after only two uses. I followed the instructions, applying liberally roots-to-tips, and then using a blow dryer. However, the result was dry hair that had lost its elasticity, and broke easily when brushing. Save your money and get a proper dye job at your salon – don’t use this and have to pay as much to fix the damage it causes!

Amazing.
Specially when used with the shampoo and the conditioner. Because it dries the hair a little bit. So used with the shampoo and conditioner it makes the hair smooth and shinny.
I’am so satisfied with this product, but so sad because I can’t find it in my country.
So I always have to get it when I travel or someone from my family.

Hi, would just like to share my experience that I had while using this product (IV’E GOT GOOD ADVICE). I started using this spray right before the summer of 2016, and continued to use it throughout the summer until November 2016. My hair was an absolutely beautiful blonde colour, I would constantly get compliments on it. I would use this product literally every time I had a shower, so about every 2-3 days. The first few months I never noticed the product damaging my hair, but by September after the summer I realized that the crown of my hair was very fuzzy and had a horrible texture, I also realized that my hair had thinned out quite dramatically at the ends but I was oblivious to the fact that it was this product that was doing this to my hair. By November I started to realize that when my hair was wet it was very gummy/mushy, it was almost impossible to brush it out while it was wet because it would just completely snap off if when i tried. It was then that I realized that it was the product that had damaged my hair because i was literally using it on a regular basis.
I was left with thin hair, and A LOT of breakage around the crown of my hair, looked like I had received a really nasty haircut. I stopped using this product by December 2016 and just gave my hair a break, I began to do a lot of hair treatments by using coconut oil, eggs, almond oil, sunflower oil etc. The honest truth is, once the damage is done its done for good, you can NOT fix damaged hair, but you can do things to improve its appearance and make it stronger. I began doing these natural hair treatments on a regular basis, almost every time I was going to shower, and although it didn’t improve the condition of my hair, it did make it look nicer when I would style it and it made it stronger (which prevented further damage) I gave my hair a break from December to May 2017, I would trim the hair that already had broken off, to slowly remove all the damage in my hair and I stopped using hair straighteners and curling wands. By May my roots had grown out so I bought a hair dye and dyed my roots at home, trying to avoid my already damaged hair, turned out okay but was a bit brassy not exactly that white/yellow blonde hair.
I didn’t use this product again until June 2017, I applied it on my newly dyed roots to lift the colour up. After the first spray my hair was already lighter and it was a nice colour because it was the blonde dye plus the spray which lifted the blonde colour up. I thought it would damage my hair but considering it was just a one time thing and my roots were healthy it did no damage and looked good.
IF YOUR HAIR IS DAMAGED AFTER USING THIS PRODUCT:
1) DON’T STRESS (trust me, my hair was so bad and now a year later I have managed to get it much healthier. It’s very sad, I know how you feel but calm down you can fix this.
2) LEAVE YOUR HAIR GROW OUT.
3) DO NOT BRUSH IT WHEN ITS WET, USE YOUR FINGERS TO UNTANGLE YOUR HAIR. IF YOU BRUSH WHILE WET IT WILL RIP OFF BECAUSE THIS IS WHEN YOUR HAIR AT ITS WEAKEST.
4) DO NATURAL HOME TREATMENTS (COCONUT OIL IS AMAZING. USING EGGS GIVES YOUR HAIR PROTEIN.
5) TRIM THE BREAKAGE THAT YOU HAVE EVERY FEW WEEKS TO SLOWLY REMOVE THE DAMAGE (you already have breakage, probably already looks pretty bad so trimming it now and then wont make a difference and this will help in the long run)
6) ONCE YOUR BREAKAGE AND DAMAGED HAIR HAS GROWN OUT A BIT GET IT CUT AND LAYERED. (sorry to say but this is what is REALLY going to help your hair become healthy again. I have cut my hair shoulder length now and asked my hairdresser to give me allover layers, it has really helped my hair blend in with the breakage and by doing layers it gets rid of even more damage)
7) AFTER THE 6TH STEP YOU WILL NOTICE THAT MOST OF THE DAMAGE WOULD HAVE BEEN CUT OFF BY NOW.
8) I know you probably want your blonde beautiful hair again, and you’re probably scared to use this product ever again, I understand. What you can do to get your blonde locks back, is to buy a blonde hair dye (a good one) I use L’Oreal Paris excellence pure blonde, 01. It’s very gentle on your hair, does not damage it or dry it out, trust me.
9) After you’ve dyed your roots you might have some brassiness/ orange tones which you probably don’t wont. Give your hair a break from the recent dye, do those natural treatments regularly, and after a few weeks you can apply the john frieda spray once on your newly dyed roots (avoiding your old hair) This will really lighten up the blonde, as well as remove the orange tones you may have.
10) After this one use, I would recommend you to give your hair a longggg break, continue to treat it well, don’t use straighteners.
11) If you want to go a tone lighter you could concider using the spray once more only if you feel that you really need it and that your hair is in good condition. But make sure this is only a few months after from your first use.
Basically, whats happening to all of you is that… YOU ARE USING THIS PRODUCT TOO MUCH!!! This spray contains peroxide, its extremely damaging to the hair. This is not a product you should be using daily or even on a regular basis!! If you’re already blonde (darkish blonde like me) using this product once or twice (SPACED OUT) will be fine, only if your hair is already healthy (your roots will usually be healthy). This is what iv’e learnt from this spray.
It’s been exactly a year now, as it’s November. My hair is right above my breasts, Iv’e got layers, but overall got my healthy hair back, thankfully! It’s taken a lot of hard-work, research and determination but in one year iv’e managed to do it so you can too!

I am naturally a blonde and was a toe head when I was little. As I’ve gotten older, my hair has definitely darkened to the point that it’s basically this weird shade of almost-brown-but-not-quite with shades of red, and grayish undertones. I’ve always wanted lighter hair again like when I was younger, so I researched this product a lot and was using the same brand’s lightening shampoo and conditioner, but having not much of an effect. So here’s a review of the product I would have wanted, to send good karma out there!
A friend ended up giving me this product and said I could keep it, and I was very excited to try it, but also worried that the effects would either be too dramatic or extremely damaging, as many users on here have reported. The first time I used it I sprayed it mostly on my ends, so I could trim them if it didn’t work out. I liked the effect, but wanted more so the next time I used it I kinda went all over my head, and then heat styled it after, like the packaging recommends. the effect was definitely noticeable, and a lot of people commented that my hair looked lighter. That was just what I wanted! Looking back at pictures from around then, though, I don’t necessarily love my hair color from the first time I used the product. It looked too coppery in shade and just a little unnatural.
The first time I used it was about 1.75 years ago, and since then I’ve used it maybe 6 or 7 more times at most, from all-over spraying to touch ups. My hair is 100% a different color than it would be if I’d never touched it with this product. This is the only color treatment I’ve ever done to my hair.
I will say that I think the best results from this product come from exposure to sunlight after its use. What’s great about this product is that I don’t believe it’s a one and done application; several uses have made my hair more sensitive to the sun, as well as to the shampoo and conditioner and heat styling. I definitely have noticed that if I curl or straighten my hair after using the JF shampoo and conditioner, it looks more sunkissed than after a normal wash and letting it air dry (which is what I do most of the time). But I love how my hair naturally lightens more when it’s in the sun now! The color I get from the sun now is not coppery at all in my opinion. It’s almost like the sun makes the color from original application look better and more natural. Last summer I don’t think I used the spray at all, save for maybe one touch up, and by the end of the summer my hair was sooo much lighter, but in a natural-looking way. That lightness definitely faded over the winter months, but it’s coming back again as this summer progresses!
The biggest complaint I see regarding this product is that it ruins people’s hair. Yes, my hair is probably drier than it once was, and yes, after a spray I lose a little more hair for a while. But my hair has always been thick and it still is, and the dryness is completely manageable. Whereas I used to need clarifying shampoos to get my hair really clean, I now use hydrating shampoos most days of the week (I consider the john Frieda shampoo to be a little on the harsher side, but the conditioner gives my hair a glossy finish) and sometimes shower and condition my hair but skip washing it. These little changes have make my hair just as manageable as it ever was. But notice that within almost two years, I’ve used the product about once every three months, on average. THIS PRODUCT HAS BLEACH IN IT! It WILL ruin your hair if you’re using it more than, say, once a month. Even once a month would be wayy too much for my hair. It definitely takes a little time for it to bounce back after a use of the product. The trade-off has been well-worth it for me, though. I really like my shade of blonde. It is a little reddish, but I don’t mind because my hair has a little red in it anyway, and it matches my coloring and skin tone really well. Nobody’s ever assumed that I’ve gotten my hair dyed or highlighted. I believe it’s right in that sweet spot of “something looks different, but I can’t put my finger on it.” This is also helped by how gradually my shade has evolved.
So here’s my advice to potential buyers: don’t buy unless you’re ready for a significant change in hair color. It will still look fairly natural and subtle, but your hair color will change. I can tell when my roots are coming in (but sometimes a day in the sun blends them back in). Most importantly, DO NOT overuse this product!! Try it once, give your hair some time to bounce back, then asses. Try heat-styling, using the JF shampoo and conditioner, and spending time in the sun. See how your shade will gradually evolve.
I hope this review is informative and helpful, and I hope some of you come to love your new and lighter shade with the (modest) use of this product. Good luck!!

I love this product! Im naturally blond and it makes my hair lighter in a few uses. It dries out my hair noticeably, but its nothing that a good conditioner cant fix… The characteristic I like the most in this spray is the natural beach effect it gives. Perfect!
