   I absolutely love this.
   I have dry hair, prone to split ends and needed a product to help.
   The way I used this product gave my hair extra moisture as well as sealing my split ends. I got 2 uses out of it.

   1) Boil water and half fill a mug.
   2) Stir in until a creamy consistency.
   3) Apply to ends of hair and a small amount to roots of hair. (This is a little tricky but totally worth it)
   4) Leave in for 20mins.
   5) Rinse out of hair with warm water in shower.

   I also think this product is great because it has very little packaging which is great for the environment.

   This is meh. The consistency is hard to work with and messy. I tried to save time by heating water in a small coffee cup in the microwave. I had to wait for it to cool down and the product thickened more. You apply it before shampooing and conditioning. I had no problems with it rinsing off but didn’t notice any results besides some added shine. Will not repurchase

   It’s an amazing treatment!

   With these products you have to note that if it dries on your hair it will become clumpy. Get your hair into a shower cap to keep it moist and then you can leave it on for even longer than 20 minutes (although I think 20 minutes is enough). Also wait about 5 minutes after putting it into boiling water to cool it down a bit, but it should still be warm.

   The smell is fresh and nice, my whole house smelled like it after putting it into boiling water.

   You can split this bar into four pieces (or two if you hair is really thick and long) and add a bit more water (since its quite pricey – 9€ here in middle Europe, here you also get it in their paper baggie, no other packaging, which I love).

   You also have to get a clarifying shampoo for no residue -> that’s usually the main complaint with these products, but I got it out quite nicely with a clarifying shampoo.

   After the treatment, your hair will feel thicker and healthier, I have very damaged over-processed hair and have been using this to stimulate hair growth every two weeks. It definitely helps and makes my hair shinier and looking healthier.

   I’ve been using LUSH products for over ten years now, and come to the conclusion about 50% of the products are great, and the other 50% are snake oil (and no, I don’t mean the top-selling fragrance from Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab.)

   Many LUSH products are mediocre, downright garbage or require extensive researching of the blogosphere to “use them right.” A consumer should be able to follow the product directions as given by the company on the product packaging. They should not need to spend hours reading reviews to find out what the “real” product directions are, that stuff should be on the label!

   LUSH’s Damaged Hot Oil Treatment is a solid little bar of oils with a wooden spoon stuck in it and a label wrapped around it. I paid AU$10 and regret every penny.

   Here is what LUSH doesn’t tell you about Damaged Hot Oil Treatment based on my own experience and other reviews I read:

   1) you don’t need to use the whole thing unless you have really long hair. Cut it up into pieces.
   2) you should not melt the whole thing to store later because if you leave it too long it goes rubbery and anyway, it would start to develop bacteria because this product has no preservatives.
   3) it will take a lot longer than 5 minutes to melt it, even with boiling hot water.
   4) the window for correct usage is rather short: too soon after melting it and you’ll burn yourself, too long and it will cease to be creamy and go rubbery and glue-like.
   5) LUSH says to add this to dry hair and leave it for 20 minutes before shampooing it out. But if you leave it on a lot longer, the guar gum in it will form gelatinous clumps in your hair and become difficult to remove. Leave it overnight and you’re courting disaster.
   6) some shampoos will not be able to budge this stuff. You may need to wash with conditioner, or even dishwashing detergent to get it out.
   7) your attempts to remove it may strip your hair and negate any treatment effect this product had, if any.
   8) your attempts to remove it may cause you to lose more hair than normal.
   9) there is more guar gum and sodium lauryl sulfate than any of the included oils, apart from olive oil. Who the smeg puts guar gum in a hair treatment anyway?!
   10) this crap can clog your drains! Just rinsing the residue from my hands after applying it was enough to clog my sink!!

   The inclusion of the guar gum as a thickener completely ruins this product. LUSH is obsessed with getting rid of product packaging by making their stuff in solid form and often produces sub-par products as a result. This is not one of them. This is WORSE.

   This is a terrible product. My hair hasn’t been coloured for years, and is rarely heat-treated. It is merely dry and this product made _zero_ improvement. What little benefit I got was from the coconut oil I added to my hair to make up for being stripped by the detergent I needed to use to get the remaining residue out! And I’m still not sure I got it all out.

   Honestly, you’re better off using some oils from your kitchen or a REAL hot oil treatment than this muck.

   I would give this zero lippies if I could.
