This has done absolutely nothing to take out the brassiness except turn parts of my hair blue (my boyfriend commented the other day “why is your hair blue?” LOL). I’ve used it a few times and taken before and after photos and there is zero difference. It gets an extra lippy because it is a nice treatment. As a deep conditioning treatment alone I’d be willing to give it 4 lippies but I’m reviewing it on what it claims to do and it unfortunately falls flat.

This is it for dyed platinum blondes. I have medium brown auburnish hair with a naturally red base. I went platinum a few years ago to disguise all of plentiful grays in a (hopefully) stylish way, but my red base keeps shining through and brassying up my blonde. I’ve tried most all of the purple conditioners – Joico, Aveda, Bumble and Bumble, DryBar, etc., etc. But – the Shu Uemera is the best – hands down. Now, let me be clear – I think its the best because it really, really tones your hair. It will change she shade and get rid of any brassiness, but it does give your hair a very, very cool tone. I need it and it is the best I’ve found.

I am in love with this conditioner! I am in the process of going silver, with about 2″ of regrowth and decided to just let the old color grow out. Currently had it highlighted from a very dark brown and the highlights were a little too warm. I read reviews on this and had to try it. It is amazing! It not only made the silver bright, shiny and smooth but it toned the highlights more ash and makes everything blend a little better. Would not be without it.

I’m Asian so my hair pulls red and orange really bad but I love the beige blond highlights. Go figure. This product is wonderful at pulling the brassiness out and it conditions my hair wonderfully. I think it’s worth the money since one bottle costs the the same as going into the salon for a gloss.

THIS IS AMAZING!!! I have blonde hair that is very prone to getting overly brassy/yellow, however I desire a more of beige champagne color. While salon toner and glazes sometimes do a decent job of toning my hair, sometimes my colorist either goes overkill and my hair looks either too ashy or too bright/white and doesn’t fade fast enough, or the toner is too weak and fades too fast. Plus salon toners and glazes all contain some level peroxide (at least 2%), which can be damaging if your hair is already extremely dry and damaged like mine is. My hair always ends up breaking after using a salon toner/glaze. I’ve requested that my colorist stop using toners/glazes on me for this reason.
I’ve been a huge fan of violet shampoos & conditioners to keep my color looking great, because I feel that I have more control over the results and they are less damaging than the salon products; although the results are more temporary. I have tried MANY… Frederic Fekkai Platinum Shampoo (used to be my HG, but was discontinued), Aveda Blue Malva Shampoo & Conditioner, Bumble & Bumble Color Support for Cool Blondes (also discontinued), Joico Color Endure Violet Shampoo & Conditioner (reformulated), Goldwell DualSenses Blondes & Highlights Anti-Brasiness Shampoo & Conditioner, Clairol Shimmerlights, Lush Daddy-O Shampoo, Alterna Caviar Brightening Blonde, Pureology Perfect 4 Platinum, and more…
While some deliver decent toning results, most of the shampoos are WAY too drying, and most of the conditioners are not nearly moisturizing enough for my extremely dry, damaged hair; while a few are more gentle and moisturizing, but deliver mediocre results. Some require both the shampoo and conditioner for results, some work okay on their own. They all contain differing amounts of pigment, slight variations in tone- some are more lavender, some true violet, some more blue… It’s hard to find the find the right formula that gives my exact desired results.
Then Shu Uemura launched this gem! It’s an extremely pigmented DARK indigo-violet conditioning balm that contains nourishing oils and no ammonia or peroxide. It’s so pigmented and concentrated that they recommend wearing gloves and doing a patch test for allergies to the violet pigment. Note: I am neither allergic to it, nor have I needed to wear gloves during application.
I apply a small amount (the product is VERY concentrated) to wet hair and distribute it evenly throughout my hair. I leave it for 5-10 minutes (the longer you leave it in, the more it tones) and it leaves my hair perfectly toned, and EXTREMELY soft and shiny! The results last for about a week or until I use a clarifying shampoo. I use it once a week to maintain the gorgeous champagne blonde color it gives me. You could use slightly more often if needed as well.
This is truly the strongest, most concentrated, most effective product of it’s class! It’s expensive, but a tiny bit goes a long way and it works on it’s own and doesn’t require any other product to be effective. It also helps improve the condition of your hair!
