I was on the fence about this brush at first, because the lack of a handle put me off. But I really wanted something that would help my extremely fine hair not get ravaged when I brush it, since it tangles so easily and I have to brush it so frequently. After getting over my hangup about the lack of handle, I decided I really like this brush.
The packaging boasts 5x less hair breakage. I can’t quantify that because I’m certainly not counting how many hairs get broken when I brush, but I can say that it appears to be significantly less than even my Wet Brush, which used to be my HG (but now I find it just gets dirty and dusty, and tends to pull my hair more than I’d like). I enjoy how this brush glides through my hair, though I wouldn’t say it’s as pleasant an experience as, say, a massaging style brush with rounded tips. But I’m not rough on my hair or scalp, so it’s not uncomfortable to use.
The bristles are definitely longer, thinner, and more flexible than the original Tangle Teezer (which I also have, in the Hello Kitty compact style and I enjoy it as well). This means that it’s better on wet hair. I even use this when blow drying my hair and I find I get fantastic results without lots of frizz.
I really appreciate how easy it is to clean! Since there aren’t any nubs at the tips of the bristles, hair doesn’t get caught in it so easily. I can usually grab all the hair that sheds after each use in one go. And washing the brush is super easy since it doesn’t have a cushion, so water doesn’t get trapped. It dries fast, and is ready to use very quickly.
At $12, it’s more than I’d normally pay for a brush, but I really do love it. If the worst happens and I lose it, I’ll definitely run right out to grab another.
