This brush has been the change that I needed to make me love (and I mean LOVE) my curly hair. I watched several YouTube videos and found some amazing curly hair gurus out there that I now follow like crazy. One of them mentioned this — so I went out an bought it. If I had known the magic this brush was going to bring to my “crazy” mop of hair — I would have gone natural YEARS ago. My hair — which usually was a frizzy mess with each hair doing its own thing, has become hair that people randomly ask if they can touch because it looks so amazing.

I’m a professional hair stylist, and LOVE Denman brushes (of all kinds). You can get a great blow dry using these. For curly hair, they are great for blow drying hair straight.

Well I almost got sucked into an expensive hair brush vortex, but fortunately the wonderful MUA reviewers reminded me to check out Denman. I had the styling brush back in the 70’s and it was great for years. Lately I’ve just been wanting to brush my old grey mane and tickle my scalp a little. My Spornett is just too scratchy. This is perfect and just a beautiful brush. I’m happy that I did not blow my entire state tax return on the posh version. This will do just fine. Do check these out first, before you get spendy, if it matters.

Occasionally I consider investing in a good brush but for whatever reason I hadn’t done so. Partly because I had Mason Pearson in mind and while I’m sure it would be worth the investment, the thought of parting with 150 bucks never appeals to me. Particularly if I’ve got something that essentially does the same job just not as well.
The other day I had to toss my Wet brush, which is excellent, and I thought, you know…lemme try and get a better brush. I’m familiar with Denman and I know that they make an excellent quality brush at a lower price point than MP.
So I purchased the small grooming brush for $34 and let me tell you I am shocked at the difference it makes. I had read enough reviews here to prompt me to buy the brush, but I’m also aware of the fact that a good products doesn’t always mean it’s a game changer.
This definitely is. For one thing, it feels so good to brush my hair with this. I honestly think that this brush makes a difference in overall scalp and hair health. One of the reasons I was considering it was that my hair has been oily at the roots and dry at the end, which, needless to say, I don’t like. I know this type of brush is good for distributing the scalp oils through the length of the hair shaft, and I absolutely see and feel a marked difference in just the last few days since I purchased and started using this. And while it’s more than I normally spend on a brush, it’s really not a bank-breaker. Particularly since it will probably last forever.

I own the D81M in boar and nylon mix and it’s my favourite dry hair brush!
I fell in love with Denman after buying, on super sale, the Head Hugger in size Extra Large, which is the biggest styling brush I’ve ever seen, as big as a 10 years old forearm. Not kidding. It’s kind of scary and the first handful of times using it I seriously risked to injury my own head. But then I managed to learn how to use it and had the hair of my life.
So, after having a positive impact with the brand, I went for a grooming brush. I always wanted a boar bristled brush but oh how they are expensive! The smallest I’ve ever found in town was like 25 euros which is too much for me. Such prices are ok only for salons imho. So I looked at Denman’s website but still, they were around 20-25 euros. Luckily about a month or two ago the brand went on sale on Italian Amazon so I had to grab it! And got it for like 6,50 euros.
It came in a box (I always bought random drugstore brushes, the one that just hang without a box or anything) which made a good impact, with a hole in the middle to feel the bristles with your fingers. They have this taller spike in nylon in the middle of each group of boar bristles whose function is not really clear to me but whatever. It also came with an information paper about the brand and the brush itself sat in a plastic box. Very professional and clean. Oh and the box was sealed which is something you wouldn’t expect in a brush.
The item looks kind of vintage, like the old products you find on your grandma’s bathroom shelves. Fits wonderfully in my time-capsule 70s psychedelic bathroom 🙂
It works fine. The strikes are almost totally smooth and not painful at all. It is very light yet quite sturdy, and will surely last many years. The only con is that its detangling properties are not the best, as I honestly expected from boar bristles. Surely it’s softer than any other wooden or plastic brush, which suits my scapulas lenght. It is very easy to clean as you can “comb” the red part with your fingers and thanks to the flexible bristles, you can immediately pick every single hair. Overall, this is a high quality item, made in UK, and made to last.
Apparently the red part is detachable to be cleaned but I didn’t try yet.
Recommended!

Brilliant grooming brush, excellent for back combing too. Not so great at detangling, but it is a grooming brush after all. I have the large and small handbag size. Compared to my Mason Pearson it almost performs as well, but doesn’t have that luxurious feel. It is quite bulky & isn’t heat resistant.

My hair is fine and breaks easily so brushing with this keeps it from breaking off as much. Definitely recommended for anyone with hair that breaks easily!

A-MA-ZING!
I have about 6,000 of these (exaggeration slightly!) I use them to smooth back my hair, and my mum and I have nicknamed it “The Brush-Back Brush!” I get paranoid if I can’t find it in the mornings! It is perfect for my frizzy mixed race hair. I use it frequently with a few squirts of ELVIVE EXTRAORDINARY OIL by L’Oréal. Definatly buy it. I also like to use the other denman brushes for when I do a FULL hair wash.

I just really love Denman brushes. Also have a styling brush, which I’ve been using for 10 years now, so when I was in the UK a few weeks ago I decided to buy a grooming brush as well. I have a boar & nylon mixed brush inMedium (D81M), which is perfect for me as I have very long & thick hair. It smoothes my hair, it redistributes the natural oils to the ends, it even keeps me from having to wash my hair for an extra day or so. It’s just love, love, LOVE!!!
EDIT: I have bought an extra, the small one (D81S) for in my bag. That’s how much I love it!

I love my Denman brush. I have the large, natural bristle brush.
I purchased the brush in 2000, so it’s 13 years old and only just starting to show any wear and tear. Some of the rubber cushion pad holding the bristles are started to perish, and some of the bristles are coming loose. But after 13 years of brushing hair it’s done pretty well.
I like how the brush feels on my scalp, and how it’s quite gentle on my hair.
I wash my brush with warm water, an old toothbrush and some shampoo. It’s possibly not the best way to clean it, but it’s been fine so far.
If I lost this brush I would certainly get another, especially since the price of Denman brushes has come down over the years. When I bought my brush it was $70NZD. Rather expensive really, but they are much cheaper now.
