This shaving lotion was a little bit of a disappointment to me. It has nice packaging and definitely feels upmarket but I don’t think it performs particularly great and that’s ultimately what I expect any shaving cream to do. I used this for shaving my legs and while it was okay at prepping them, I would have preferred a thicker, creamier texture – this is a rather thin consistency. It doesn’t build up to a lather nor did it help me get an exceptionally close shave. The formula itself is actually quite hydrating and never left my legs feeling dry and itchy like most shaving products. This was somewhat surprising to me because it has a strong peppermint smell but go figure – it didn’t irritate my sensitive skin at all. The scent is worth taking into consideration as it may be too strong for some people (I love peppermint so had no issues with it).
I should mention that this shaving lotion is marketed as a ‘unisex’ product. Now, that’s fine in theory (hair is all the same, regardless of gender) but it doesn’t work out so well for us ladies because this chic little bottle is smaaaaallll (118ml/4 fl.oz) and, unlike men, we have a lot more ground to cover when it comes to shaving. For a guy who only needs to shave his facial hair, I think the price of this is reasonable – and, in any case, it’s going directly on their face so it’s worth paying a premium for quality. But personally, I find it painful slathering such expensive stuff on my legs every other day, which is how often I shave. Especially because you need to use quite a lot – I finished my bottle in three weeks on vacation.
As for packaging, the pump bottle looks great and has a handy lock mechanism which is suitable for travelling. I actually have repurchased this as a gift for my brother and he loves it. I imagine this would be a great present for most men.
I’ve given this three stars because, while it didn’t suit my needs, I think the quality is good and it definitely got a huge thumbs up from my brother. Would I repurchase for myself? Nope. But for the men in my life, yes I would, which is why I’ve indicated I would repurchase.
