I’m quite impressed with this hair color. I put my hair through hell recently- removed very dark brown (close to black) in efforts to get closer to my natural medium/light brown hair, and, of course, that left me with a lot of orange hues- that was expected, but was still annoying.
I didn’t want to end up dark brown again, actually wanted to have lighter ends. The idea of bleaching didn’t sound great for many reasons- more orange, more dryness, more maintenance, so after doing some research I decided to give this high lift color a try. I’m actually very impressed with the results- I didn’t get the color on the box, of course, because my hair was previously colored and was at level 5 or 6, but it lightened my strands noticeably, and since it is so creamy, I was able to create very seamless transition from darker roots to lighter ends (I applied to ends first, then a bit higher after some time, and then I used darker shade for roots separately), kept it on for 45-60 minutes. Now I have dark blonde/light brown hair with zero orange, just a bit of gold (not yellow), ashy tone. Very happy with the results, and thrilled this fixed my orange situation without any additional toning, I even want to use it again to get even lighter.
My waist-long hair doesn’t look or feel damaged either, which is a miracle since it was chemically tortured, and lightening always weakens hair. I added the protein protectant that comes in the box straight to the dye-developer mix instead of trying to coat my hair with it.
This hair color is a good option for those with brown hair, who want to go a couple of shades lighter without battling orange. I suspect, best results would be on virgin hair, if your hair is colored dark, you will first need to remover the color, because dye doesn’t lift dye.

Update 2: I find this works better at removing egg yolk color left when lightening (& you don’t want to bleach anymore) better than a sally high lift Ash such as ion high lift ash/cool or the esteemed Wella frosty ash. Of course, wait as long as you can after bleaching with your egg yolk head, saturate with coconut oil first, leave this in for 30-40 minutes (may go slightly silver for a couple of washes)… and you’ll have white. Idc that this has 30 vol (marked on developer bottle). It is not as damaging to me as any low volume bleach (and even subsequent semi or purple shampoo tone; bleach really kills my hair except for root touch ups). I’m not saying it causes no damage — of course oxidative hair dye does if abused — for me personally this just is preferable route to take. It defo also is less damaging than those evil bottles of Wella color charm toners (t18, t14 etc) I used to adore and still may even dabble with but don’t love as much as I once did.
update: I fancied going from navy to turquoise, my navy being an impossible to remove common blue dye. An hour of this somehow brought me to my goal color of turquoise!!!!!!!
This is an excellent dye to remove my stubborn traces of pink & leave it a nice ashy bleached blonde. I had in atomic pink over almost white hair, bleached it to get it out and nothing happened – well, it turned fluorescent highlighter pink which was very cool but I needed it out and did NOT want darker I wanted my bleached blonde back – so I gave this a whirl since it’s available basically everywhere. Wow! I’m back to lightest ash level 12 blonde if such a thing exists. White basically. I’d for sure recommend this to get any stubborn semi dyes or even orange tones after bleaching as it says it lifts up to 3 levels and definitely tones. It comes with 30 vol so yes that’s high but hey it worked. The ammonia could sear your nose hairs off but it has an oddly pleasant smell besides that. I will definitely buy this again, as if I were to have like a 2 am hair mishap I could to go my 24 hour rite aid on the corner and save myself.

I used this color to try and correct the brassy tones and bright yellow color that was left behind on my natural dark ash roots after using the L’Oreal Feria Absolute Platinum hair color last week. The platinum dye lightened up my highlighted hair that was grown out, but it was a patchy dye job due to the bleaching powder making it hard to spread around and I was left with extremely brassy roots that even Shimmer Lights couldn’t knock out.
I put the Lightest Ash Blonde dye on my roots first where the brassy and yellow colors were the worst and left it in for 30 minutes. At the 20 minute mark, I used the rest of the dye and put it along the lengths of my hair and left it for another 10. This dye was very creamy and easy to work with. I used a mixing bowl and brush and it was very simple to do (I bought 2 boxes and still had plenty left over even with having long hair). I noticed during the process that my brassy tones were immediately gone after putting this dye on and the dye color on my hair went from a white to a purplish grey. I rinsed this out and used the conditioner it came with and my hair was so soft and shiny when I got done drying it.
After putting my hair through 2 bleach/dye jobs in a week, it feels healthier and looks shinier now than it ever did when I would just get salon highlights. It eliminated all of the brassy and yellow tones and completely fixed the patchy dye job left behind by the platinum dye. I didn’t even spot dye. I just started at the roots as if I was doing a touch up and everything came out to an even color. I was left with a beautiful light ash/almost white blonde tone. It even picked up on my natural highlights and gave dimension to my hair instead of just coating it in one single color. This is only my second box dye I’ve ever bought, but with as terrible as my hair looked before, and with how well this color covered and fixed the previous bad dye job without any major damage, this will now be my go-to box dye from now on.
I would like to say that I was getting a little alarmed when the dye went from a white to a purple/grey color on my head while I was in the middle of the dye process and it was a little alarming when I was rinsing my hair in the shower and there were blue/grey streaks, but after drying it, you would never be able to tell those colors were in my hair. It is such a pretty white blonde color which is exactly what I was looking for. I knew kind of what to expect about the blue and grey tones in your hair showing up during the dying process from reading reviews, so I didn’t freak out too bad. It was just a little alarming. I highly recommend this dye to anyone looking to get a pretty light ash/white blonde color. I used this right over a dye job I did a week prior and the color came out just like on the box. I’ll be using this from now on to do root touch ups since this was the exact color I was looking for.

This review is for Excellence Blonde Supreme in extra light ash blonde #01. Bought this because I read that it had a blue base which I know only salon color has (Koleston has lots of blue based blondes) the base of this color is violet, I still used it because I had lots of super shiny yellow gold and mainly orange which violet doesn’t cut for me, I did a swatch for 30 minutes, the recommended time and did nothing, so decided to go for 45 mins. I forgot how much I like the fact that Excellence has a pre-serum treatment that really works and that I don’t have to purchase the protein filler separately, I was able to coat all my hair with it. The mix is super fumey and strong and the mix looks white, applied on the orangy parts on the back first and then on the yellow parts, I had lots of product leftover and did the top part as well, waited 45 mins but ended up leaving for 55 mins, probably should have done an hour but got a little scared since my hair has damage from bleach. Rinsing was very easy, no slimy or stretchy hair and no hair loss either!!! When I was done drying my hair saw that all the gold was gone and the orange was toned done a lot, the parts that were brown were lifted so much with no brass and the blonde parts are now a super natural beautiful color, no split ends either, my hair went from rough and dry and frizzy hot mess to cashmere soft, my hair pulls so much red and this is overall an amazing dye, miracle working product. Will update if I like it more than Nutrisse in White Chocolate.
EDIT: did a swatch test with Nutrisse 111 and the color came out gray! I love ash blonde but that color was the color of lead, that never happened before but I’ve read here on MUA that a now it turns your hair gray! So I will be back to the Excellence.
EDIT: came back to this color one year later because my hair at this point is a very light golden blonde, did a swatch for 30 minutes and came out a very flat ashy pale blonde with a very strong green tinge even tough the mix is pale lilac? it clashes big time with my skin tone, will keep using Clairol Nice n Easy since I always get shimmery beautiful natural color.

I used this hair dye in the past. Just to be clear, it is a high lift (developer 30 volume instead of the usual 20 in box dye) and blue-based color (ash) so if your hair is lighter than 8-9, highlighted/bleached, it can definitely turn your hair blue/gray/violet.
I remember using this on my roots only to blend them with all-over salon highlights, because i didn’t have the money to go to the salon for roots only (i was a student then)
My natural hair is a dark ash blonde, so ash colors work well on me, they don’t turn brassy. I remember that my roots matched the bleached highlights and i was pretty happy. I would NOT use this for an all-over color since my hair is currently very light. If you want to tone down the orange/yellow, please use a toner and no a high-lift dye. You want a color-deposit only or a slight lift (vol 10 or 20) not something as strong as this. =)

I used this dye, following all instructions, and it turned my hair an ugly, blue/purple/green/gray color. I’m so upset. I have to dye my hair for a Musical that I’m in, and I now have troll hair. Will never buy anything sold by L’OREAL EVER AGAIN.

I love this stuff….this out of every toner/color out there gave me the platinum locks I wanted.I dont care if its “boxed dye”.At first your hair may appear purple or blue but dont be alarmed this will wash out within one to two.shampoos.This has been the best white platinum blonde for me….I tryed Manic Panic Virgin Snow and Wella “White Lady” and this was much better.than.both.of those professional dyes

I usually use les blondissimas…probably not spelled right…in the same shade. The store i was in was out, but i saw this, and figured same brand, same color, it should be fine. Nope. I got the same weird blue purple green grey shade everyone is talking about. I have an appointment for a cut tomorrow, but really wasn’t planning on shelling out for corrective color. Silly me. I didn’t want to get scolded for my roots, but purply troll colored hair is way more embarrassing.

Good hair color for getting a very light ASH blonde shade. I have used this before on dyed and not dyed hair. It lightens my light brown hair to a pretty, light ash blonde shade. Very good. On already light blond hair the colors has a green/grey cast to it. But I only see it in certain light. It looks like a pretty very light blond to public. The cast fades after a few washes as well. This is the ash tones in the dye. If your hair is already platimun there isn’t any color to add so really should only be dyeing your roots and adding rest on hair for 5-10minutes. I leave this dye on my whole head for 25-30 minutes and I haven’t been dissappointed. My hair turns out a pale ash blond. Its lightening your hair so it is a bit drying but not any worse than most home dyes I have tried.
